Chinese,Chilean Presidents Witness Signing of MoU on Joint Astronomical Observatories

Center Established to Update TCM

With the objective of integrating the life sciences and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a research center for TCM modernization has been jointly established by the CAS Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.     

Bureau of Planning and Strategy Established

The launching ceremony for the CAS Bureau of Planning and Strategy was held on August 26 in Beijing. CAS President LU Yongxiang and other CAS leaders attended the meeting.     

Sino-German Soil and Environment Group Established

Under the support of the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, a group for cooperation on soil and environment was established in 2003 at the CAS Nanjing Institute of Soil Science.     

New Laser Facility SG-Ⅱ Established

A novel laser facility, named SG-Ⅱ (Shenguang, or Divine Light), has recently passed the appraisal of a panel of experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China Academy of Engineering Physics, and State High-tech Development Program (National 863 Program).

joint Lab of Archimede Bridge to be Established

An agreement on setting up a Sino-Italian Joint Lab of Archimede Bridge was signed by Director of the CAS Institute of Mechanics Hong Youshi and General Manager of the Archimede Bridge Co. Elio Matacena on Dec. 6 in Beijing. Italian Minister of Foreign Trade Antonio Marzano and Director of CAS Bureau of Basic Science Zhang Jie were among the officials witnessing the event.     

Asia''s First Bat Research Center Established in Beijing

In cooperation with a local government, the CAS Institute of Zoology (IOZ) has established Asia's first bat research and protection center in Fangshan, a southwest suburb of Beijing. Its opening ceremony was held on November 16, 2004.     

社会组织设立专项基金问题研究

当前,我国社会组织专项基金呈现蓬勃发展之势,同时也存在政策缺失、内部管理混乱等问题。为此,应当借鉴国外专项基金的发展经验,在明确社会组织设立专项基金的标准和依据、规范登记备案流程的基础上,从建立健全管理机构、强化资金使用与管理以及注重专项基金自身的管理等方面做好社会组织专项基金管理工作。同时,还应从建立完善相关政策法规体系,发展公益慈善文化,制定社会组织专项基金的运作规划,强化社会组织的服务功能,增强社会组织及专项基金的社会责任感等方面促进社会组织专项基金发展。     

A Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics Established at CAS

On June 18, the launching ceremony for the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics China (KITPC) at CAS was held at the campus of the CAS Institute of Theoretical Physics in Beijing. Together with the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University, they will be new additions to the worldwide Kavli network.

Chongqing Institutes for Green and Intelligent Technology. Established

According to a cooperation agreement jointly signed by CAS, the Executive Office of the State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committee and the Chongqing municipal government, a new CAS institution, the CAS Chongqing Institutes of Green and Intelligent Technology (CIGIT) will be established in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality to promote progress     

CAS Center for Space Environment Research and Prediction Established

The opening ceremony for the newly established CAS Center for Space Environment Research and Prediction was held on Nov. 10 at the CAS Center for Space Science and Applied Research. CAS Vice President Jiang Mianheng and Vice Minister of the State Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense,Luan Enjie, officiated at the ceremony.
