Measuring Attitudes Toward Human Relations Training

This article reports a study designed to develop an instrument to measure attitudes toward human relations training. Test-retest stability and internal consistency reliabilities were established.     

Systematic Human Relations Training: Appraisal and Status

The immense impact of the Systematic Human Relations Training (SHRT) model on the contemporary helping scene is underscored and verified. The rudiments of the model and its historical antecedents are described and various technical and philosophical issues are identified. The model's uncertain theoretical status, questionable and conflicting developmental elements, the merits and hazards of graded structure, the meaning and permanency of client change, the relationship of process and outcomes, the dangers of universalizing and venerating the model's attributes, and the paradox of training for transcendence are all discussed.     

Selection and Training for Human Rights Counseling

Human rights counseling is needed today as much as or more than it was in the 1960s. Counselor educators can help meet societal needs for human rights counselors by selecting counselor trainees sensitive to human rights issues and by preparing them to work with problems resulting from oppression. This article examines the shortcomings of traditional selection and training procedures and presents suggestions for improving them vis-á-vis human rights counseling.     

A Comparison of the Nontraditional Students' Experience on Traditional Versus Nontraditional College Campuses

The majority of research on nontraditional students has been conducted in environments where they constitute a significant portion of the college population. For the most part, this research found few problems and indicated that nontraditional students' college experiences are positive. This article compares the experience of nontraditional students at two types of campuses—a traditional campus where older students constitute a small percentage of the student population and two branch campuses where there is a substantial number of older students. The findings indicate areas in which a lack of age diversity may have an impact on the nontraditional students' experience.

A Comprehensive Approach to Human Relations Training for Teachers

This article develops a comprehensive approach to human relations training (HRT) for teachers based on knowledge of student diversity and application of communication skills. The author treats HRT as more than just training in communication skills and develops a model that integrates the two major components of HRT. He also develops specific goals, skills, and attitudes capable of being fitted into a teaching paradigm.     

Wellness of Undergraduates: Comparisons of Traditional and Nontraditional Students

Wellness scores of 1,249 traditional and 318 nontraditional undergraduate college students revealed low levels of wellness in multiple areas in comparison with non‐student adults and within‐group differences according to demographic variables. Profiles of wellness for traditional‐ and nontraditional‐age students revealed significant differences on 4 subscales. Nontraditional students of color scored lower than traditional Caucasian students on Total Wellness and several component indices. Implications for student development and counseling programs are discussed.

安全观的演进:从传统到非传统的转变

安全是国际关系领域的一个核心概念.其基本含义虽然简单,但人们对它所涉及的各个要素--即安全的保护对象和实施主体、安全威胁的来源、安全涉及的领域以及安全实现的方式和手段等--的具体理解却多有区别.因此安全观便成为理解安全概念的关键,也成为认识安全问题和安全政策的起点.迄今为止人类的安全观念经历了从传统到非传统、从单一到多元的演进过程.本文对这一演进过程的必然性和内在逻辑进行了简要论述,并对非传统安全观所涉及的一系列核心概念从学术上和政策内涵上进行了梳理、归纳和评析,此外,还对中国的新安全观进行了扼要概括.     

Training of Support Personnel in Three Human Relations Skills: A Systematic One-Year Follow-Up

This article reports a systematic, one-year follow-up of trainees taught three human relations skills. Results support the conclusion that response-contingent behavior decreases when supervisor reinforcement is not present. The results and their implications for training support personnel and counselors via the microcounseling paradigm are discussed.     

Achievement Motivation Goals in Relation to Academic Performance in Traditional and Nontraditional College Students

This study extended Dweck's model of achievement motivation to the collegiate level, and it is the first to apply this model to nontraditional students. We examined the relationship between goal orientations and academic performance in 262 undergraduate students grouped by nontraditional vs. traditional status. Although both groups rated themselves higher on learning goals than on performance goals, non-traditional students endorsed learning goals even more strongly than their traditional peers. Goal orientations were a better predictor of academic success than student status. Consistent with Dweck's model, a learning goal orientation was positively related to successful academic performance for both groups. The relationship between performance goals and academic success was less straightforward, but students who rated both goal orientations as relatively weak had the lowest cumulative GPAs. Traditional and nontraditional students differed on variables that were inversely related to academic performance. Less successful traditional students endorsed irrational beliefs (a possible index of learned helplessness), while less successful nontraditional students worked more hours at a paid job.     

The Use of Human Relations Techniques in the Training of Counselors: A Course Evaluation

This article describes incorporation of the goals of personal growth, knowledge of group process, and application of process groups in professional settings into a course designed and taught by doctoral students under faculty supervision. Evaluation of the course was accomplished through measures of authoritarianism, self-perception and nature of interaction with others, and comparison with other graduate courses. It was concluded that the goals were appropriate and achievable. Evidence that students participating in the course tended to respond more freely and openly to each other, in addition to self-reports of personal and professional growth, justified the continuation of similar courses in the curriculum.

校本培训和集中培训是当前我国中小学教师继续教育的两种主要形式，二者在提升中小学教师素质方面都发挥着不可替代的作用。分析校本培训和集中培训的特点与存在问题，研究二者之间的关系，充分认识教师培训机构在调节二者关系中所承栽的使命和职责，从而更好地发挥二者在促进中小学教师队伍整体素质提升中的作用。
