A case study was conducted within two Faculties in the University of Ulster during academic year 2010–11. Its aims were: to assess levels of undergraduate ebook use; how, why, and for what purpose undergraduate students chose to use or not use e-books; assess barriers to use; and consider promotional strategies.

Data were collected by means of a desk-based usage comparison and self-completion online questionnaire. Findings were considered using Diffusion of Innovation theory and Roesnita and Zainab's Ebook Use Model.

Ebooks are used thirty times more than print counterparts. Users expressed a definite preference for print books; format choice is dependent upon study need. Usage has not yet reached self-sustaining take-off. Ebooks cannot be considered interchangeable with books; promotion should take account of how ebooks are considered “different” from print.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This systematic review examines types of mobile devices used by health professions students, kinds of resources and tools accessed via mobile devices, and reasons for using the devices to access the resources and tools. The review included 20 studies selected from articles published in English between January 2010 and April 2015, retrieved from PubMed and other sources. Data extracted included participants, study designs, mobile devices used, mobile resources/apps accessed, outcome measures, and advantages of and barriers to using mobile devices. The review indicates significant variability across the studies in terms of research methods, types of mobile programs implemented, resources accessed, and outcomes. There were beneficial effects of using mobile devices to access resources as well as conspicuous challenges or barriers in using mobile devices.  相似文献

摘要 文章在技术采纳模型(TAM)的基础上提出了概念模型,通过问卷调查,采用偏最小二乘法(PLS)建模验证模型,使用Smart PIS2.0软件处理和分析数据.结果表明,信任、满意度、效率、感知易用性和感知有用性对用户使用智能手机管理个人信息的意愿有显著影响,趣味性对用户意愿没有影响.最后,根据研究结果提出了建议与对策.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 对比用户在使用WAP和APP这两种方式访问移动图书馆时的检索行为,为移动图书馆的服务创新提供参考。[方法/过程] 通过对某高校图书馆OPAC系统移动端日志数据进行统计分析,从搜索会话、查询式、高频关键词以及检索方式等方面展开研究。[结果/结论] 发现用户更多地是使用WAP访问移动图书馆,相比之下,在使用APP访问移动图书馆时,用户更倾向于在短时间内进行较少的查询来结束搜索会话;使用这两种方式查询的高频关键词所属领域有很大的相似性,中文检索多集中在数学、管理学、经济学、社会学等领域;简单检索是用户访问移动图书馆时使用的主要检索方式,通过WAP访问的用户选择其他检索方式的比率要大于通过APP访问的用户。  相似文献

Abstract

Primo Analytics from two campuses of the California State University system has revealed that a dramatically low proportion of Primo searches originate from mobile devices. The current study focuses on usability concerns as one area that may be preventing students from searching the Primo mobile interface. The sample for this study includes students from two campuses with a variety of experience with library instruction and searching the library’s discovery system. Participants were given the same set of six common academic tasks to complete. Both mobile and desktop participants found three tasks relatively easy to complete. When there were differences in completion rates between the mobile and desktop users, the desktop users were overall more successful. No task was consistently difficult for desktop users to complete, while mobile users found two of the tasks very challenging to complete. Based on the findings, the authors make recommendations for improving the experience of mobile users.  相似文献

在风险社会中,科技的发展不仅是衡量现代性的核心要素,同时也是催生不确定性的重要原因。社交媒体的发展很大程度改变了风险传播的景观,使得风险认知和媒介信息之间的关系更加复杂。本研究采用问卷调查法对临近核电站建设区域社交媒体用户进行调查,旨在探讨社交媒体环境下的信息对受众风险信息搜索行为的影响。本研究采用结构方程模型的分析方法,从社会认知理论出发考察社交媒体环境中信息的质量对受众反应的作用过程。结果显示信息质量可以通过影响用户的风险认知、风险知识水平和自我效能三个变量影响其风险信息搜索行为,从而证明社交媒体所构建的信息环境会显著作用于人们对于风险的认知和行为反应。本研究的发现期待可以为风险传播中的有效公众沟通策略以及线上风险信息管理提供参考。  相似文献

[目的/意义]通过对大学生数学建模团队的多案例分析,探究大学生数学建模团队信息搜寻行为的影响因素,为大学生学习型团队信息搜寻行为普适性影响因素研究提供实证参考。[方法/过程]采用参与观察、非结构深度访谈、关键事件等方法收集数据,通过编码分析数据,构建了大学生数学建模团队信息搜寻行为影响因素初步理论框架,阐释了框架中的各要素,并修正了初步理论框架,形成大学生学习型团队信息搜寻行为影响因素模型。[结果/结论]大学生数学建模团队信息搜寻行为主要受内部因素和外部因素的影响,前者包括团队构成、团队资源、团队沟通、团队目标;后者包括信息技术、信息资源和竞赛题目。阐释了各因素的内涵及其对大学生数学建模团队信息搜寻行为的影响。最后,结合笔者之前的研究成果,构建了大学生学习型团队信息搜寻行为影响因素模型。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The focus of this study is on the information-seeking behavior of the off-campus students in 2 of the 7 satellite centers of the Centre for Continuing Education, the outreach arm of the University of Botswana. Although the university deeply committed itself to the project, the university library could not afford to establish branch libraries in all the off-campus centers. With the nearest university branch libraries located some 160 km and 200 km away from the centers of study and only branch offices of the public library available, the findings revealed that the library and information needs of the students were not significantly met. As printed sources were revealed as their preferred choice of information format, e-mail and the Internet sources were not given much priority, even though there was evidence that suggests the students were adequately equipped through the teaching of information skills. [目的/意义] 农村处于市场经济最薄弱而又受传统社会结构影响最深的地区,社会因素对农民获取日常生活信息的影响不容忽视。本研究旨在探索社会资本对农民日常生活信息搜寻行为的影响机理。[方法/过程] 采用问卷调查法收集了334份江苏省农民日常生活信息搜寻行为的数据,综合利用Logit回归、单因素方差分析和多元线性回归对数据进行分析。[结果/结论] 研究发现:第一,社会资本对是否选择朋友、家人、报纸、电脑和手机作为信息源有显著正向影响,农民选择日常生活信息源的个数虽然与社会资本有显著正向相关关系,但相关性却较低。第二,社会资本对农民日常生活信息搜寻绩效会产生显著正向影响,主要体现在社会资本的共享和网络维度。第三,江苏省农民日常生活信息搜寻绩效在收入、自由自配时间和区域不同水平上存在显著差异。建议今后农村信息服务机构在提供信息服务时,需要提高农民的社会资本和满足农民的信息需求。  相似文献

Information literacy is a constellation of skills related to information use, one of which is information seeking. Proficiency in information seeking alone is not sufficient, though, because having the procedural knowledge necessary to complete a task is irrelevant without the confidence to act on that knowledge. Despite its importance, researchers have only begun investigating information-seeking self-efficacy in the last few decades, and multiple studies have demonstrated the importance of information literacy instruction in developing self-efficacy. How and why self-efficacy changes are key questions in this line of research, and both require a reliable and valid method of measuring self-efficacy, as well as an objective, quantitative measure of performance. Multiple researchers have addressed this issue in their research, often in relationship with another topic, including the efficacy of different pedagogical approaches, the relationship between self-efficacy and performance, human-computer interaction with search systems, and the interrelationships between self-efficacy and multiple other variables. Although progress has been made, a great deal of research is required to properly understand the relationship between self-efficacy and performance, and the complex interrelationships with other factors, which would allow for the development of better information literacy instruction.  相似文献

互联网已成为消费者健康信息搜寻的重要渠道。Web 2.0环境下互联网信息传播的路径和形态嬗变使在线健康信息环境日趋多样与复杂,用户在异质信息源中选择恰当健康信息的难度显著提升。本文基于启发式信息处理视角,从理论层面梳理启发式与健康信息可信度判断之间的内在关联并构建概念模型。在此基础上,采用实验研究法,以受控健康信息文本与启发式信息线索网页框架构建实验材料,并招募高中生群体这一典型的数字原住民作为被试开展实验研究。实验结果表明,各类健康信息来源中的启发式信息线索对数字原住民的可信度判断具有显著影响,特别是机构信息源线索的出现会显著提高数字原住民的可信度评价。数字原住民对机构信息源的可信度评价显著高于商业信息源与社会化媒体信息源,而商业信息源与社会化媒体信息源之间没有显著差别。研究结论有助于进一步理解数字原住民的健康信息行为模式,并为政府部门和公共卫生机构更好地构建健康信息平台提供参考依据。  相似文献

[目的/意义]研究移动互联网络环境下舆情信息传播路径和传播规律,为相关部门加强社会舆情信息监管提供参考.[方法/过程] 在理论研究层面,基于社会网络分析法,从点度中心性、中间中心性和接近中心性3个属性出发,对移动端和非移动端雾霾网络舆情信息传播进行对比分析;在应用研究层面,以新浪微博中雾霾话题信息为例,采用Java编程方式接入新浪网API开放平台获取新浪微博数据,使用Gephi软件及数理统计分析工具绘制有关图表.[结果/结论]揭示了移动环境下网络舆情信息传播特点,验证了社会网络分析法在移动环境下网络舆情信息传播研究中的有效性,并为移动环境下网络舆情信息传播的研究提供了新的研究视角,为实践层面移动环境下网络舆情信息监管提供了分析工具.  相似文献

In this study, researchers observed student study behaviors in the libraries of four post-secondary institutions. In all, 2,773 observations were made. This research replicates and expands an earlier study and addresses its limitations. The results of a logistic regression test indicate whether students had a mobile device readily available and where students chose to study in the library best predicted whether they demonstrated a study, as opposed to a non-study, behavior. Specifically, if students were found in quiet study or computer areas, they were more likely to be performing study behaviors. This research has implications for library stakeholders making decisions about the use of library space. Most importantly, this research demonstrates that library spaces are widely used for diverse purposes.  相似文献
