The aim of focusing conflicting objectives in modem teaching of mechanics of machines has stimulated the authors of this paper to develop specific software, lectures and laboratory activities with special emphasis on coordinate relations between the teacher's and students' tasks. As a result, a new scheme of courseware for mechanics of machines is proposed. A multi-year project has been developed to verify how a hypermedia system can be used in developing educational tools for this new courseware. An outline of these tools is presented.  相似文献

This article explores the complex dynamics that take place in ultra-Orthodox schools as they attempt to maintain a contra-acculturative stance toward secular knowledge, while providing students with the necessary tools to become functioning members of society. Using two case studies, this article looks at how the recent practice of using Rabbeim as secular studies instructors in elementary schools might reflect broader communal and cultural changes in ultra-Orthodox attitudes toward the integration of the secular and the religious.  相似文献

We propose the introduction of certain topics in the theory of machines and languages into school and college mathematics courses in place of the more usual discussions of groups and formal logic. We hold the belief that the theory of machines can be more easily motivated and is more obviously related to the real world than either of the above mentioned subjects, yet, it still provides an excellent framework in which to develop algebraic concepts and logical skills. We outline some examples of machines and languages and their interconnections suitable for such courses.  相似文献

In this paper, we explore the usefulness of three different approaches to facilitating reflexivity and a critical awareness of emerging academic identities for doctoral students. This paper stems from a longitudinal research project entitled The Next Generation of Social Scientists, which was conducted across three research-intensive British universities and based at the University of Oxford. The research examined how doctoral students in a range of social science disciplines develop (or do not develop) notions of ‘academic’ identity as they move along the doctoral trajectory and into academic positions. In what follows we describe how three different data collection tools – weekly logs, interviews and a card-sorting activity – were used to encourage doctoral students to consider the process of constructing academic identities more actively and self-reflectively. We then consider how the use of these tools at two workshops further revealed how they can be utilised by academic developers to explore the needs of doctoral students and improve the support in place for this student group.  相似文献

Narratives and activity theory are useful as socially constructed data collection tools that allow a researcher access to the social, cultural and historical meanings that research participants place on events in their lives. This case study shows how these tools were used to promote reflection within a cultural–historical activity theoretically shaped research project on multi-professional collaborative practice. The tools are shown to individually and jointly aid insight, understanding and action. The participants generated data through narratives and analysed the data with an activity theoretical framework. These were then interpreted as cultural historical artefacts by the researcher. The socially constructed paradigm within which they are situated, their participative use, and their creation of insight, understanding and action make them ideal as action research tools.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of integrating self-reflection, focused instruction, and field practice in a semester-long language arts course in order to shift early childhood preservice teachers’ (PSTs) beliefs and attitudes about writing instruction, as well as their development and planned use of tools for instruction. The findings revealed that a course focused primarily on preparing PSTs to teach writing can influence PSTs’ definitions of writing, the importance they place on writing instruction, their self-efficacy related to teaching writing, and their tools for instruction.  相似文献

Direct student experience of the real organism, object, place or environment is recognised by teachers as having powerful potential for high-quality learning. Mobile technologies offer a way for students to capture their authentic learning experiences, but rendering this rich experience into explicit and highly situated learning contexts for students remains an ongoing pedagogical challenge. After reviewing the changing nature of smart learning tools, several examples are explored to identify how they provide a novel learning context. Each example uses the integration of the smart device’s capabilities, such as the rapid capture of images and the juxtaposition of motion and static display. When comparing the incorporated tools of only a few years ago with the current tools available with the latest smart mobile devices, general principles can be generated to inform effective professional practice, specifically when teaching spatially dependent tasks, and in mobile collaborative learning environments.  相似文献

Interactive multimedia provides a useful vehicle to reconsider the place of educational theories in the design of interactive learning environments. This paper serves to address a number of such theories, especially those centred on student learning, and in particular, attempts to draw out the implications they present for designing effective instructional multimedia. It is argued that we need to develop coherency rather than divergency, in our theoretical perspectives so that we might optimise the development of new technologies in teaching and learning. This rationale is then used to advance one such perspective, based on the role of dynamic modelling tools.  相似文献

Overreliance on statistics, and even faith in them—which Richard Smith in this essay calls a branch of “metricophilia”—is a common feature of research in education and in the social sciences more generally. Of course accurate statistics are important, but they often constitute essentially a powerful form of rhetoric. For purposes of analysis and understanding, they have their limitations. In particular they tend to tell us more about correlation than causality. The extended example Smith discusses here—The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better, by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett—shows that while statistics can be valuable guides to where further investigation needs to take place, such investigation needs the tools of other disciplines, such as philosophy and anthropology, if it is to discover matters of fundamental importance.  相似文献

Engineering education at tertiary level is changing in order to reflect the need for an integrated approach to problem-based learning. Problem-solving techniques related to engineering applications have been used frequently to clarify difficult analytical concepts and theories. However, there is still a need to integrate various engineering disciplines by using different tools and approaches. The main objective of this paper is to present a problem-solving approach to analysis, synthesis and dynamics of mechanisms and machines using computer algebra systems. By using various analytical methods and the graphic capabilities of such mathematical software, it is possible to illustrate and implement, in a creative way, many areas including kinematic and dynamic analysis, vibration analysis and programming.
