科学革命与大学关系探讨

16、17世纪科学上取得了巨大成就,人们称之为"科学革命"。与科学革命主要发生在大学之外这一事实相应的是一种普遍贬低大学在发展科学上作用的观点。事实上,由于宗教意识形态上的限制导致的大学在发展科学上被动表现,并不能否定大学为科学革命提供的物质与智识基础的作用。     

论欧洲中世纪大学对近代自然科学发展的贡献

16、17世纪的欧洲中世纪大学改革了自然学科教学,促进了数学、物理学等新知识、新理论的传播;推动了医学实践教学的巨大进展,促使解剖学、植物学、药物学和化学等取得了开创性成果;作为最早实施科学教育的机构,大学还促进了科学知识的普及和扩散,并引发了人们对科学的广泛兴趣,为17世纪欧洲科学革命做出了重要贡献,推动了近代自然科学的发展。"科学革命几乎是在大学之外完成的,大学在欧洲的科学革命中几乎没起任何作用"的观点是不足以成立的。

大学兴起和科学革命都是世界文明史上的重要事件,学界就两者之间的关系争鸣不断。有学者认为,中世纪大学从组织保障和确立科学研究的正当性两方面奠定了科学革命的基础,近代早期大学更是培养了绝大多数科学家。但也有很多学者认为,中世纪大学并未开展实质性的科学教育和研究,遵循权威抑制了对新知识的探求,而近代早期大学对新知识和新方法大多抱抵制态度,科学革命的重大成果也主要产生于大学以外的科学组织。准确认识大学与科学革命的关系,既要针对不同时期、不同研究领域、不同大学的贡献具体分析,也要积极借鉴哲学和观念史、学术制度史等多领域的研究成果。     

论大学问题的“悬置”

大学是国家科学的脊梁、民族文明进步的希望。在世界竞争日益激烈的知识经济时代,大学以其人才培养和知识创新的垄断性作用决定了国家的兴与衰。这一逻辑和事实决定了阻碍大学改革发展的问题必须率先解决,制约大学充分发挥其推动社会进步作用的问题不能悬置也不容悬置。本文在回答为什么要提出"大学问题悬置"这一问题的基础上,从国家创新发展的需要及我国大学有待进一步发挥更大的社会作用等方面,论述了大学问题不能悬置的原因。最后,对被大学长期悬置而未能解决的"人才培养质量提高""世界一流大学建设""大学去行政化"三大问题进行了全面的分析讨论。

权力集中与知识控制:"教育革命"时期的中国重点大学政策

20世纪五六十年代的"教育革命"使我国高等教育异化为政治运动与知识控制,高等教育遭遇到严重挫折.为了高等教育的"巩固、调整与提高",20世纪60年代继续推行重点大学政策,提出以"提高高等教育质量"为目标,以控制学校规模与优先发展重点大学为重点.它之所以得到发展,一方面是出于纠正"教育革命"错误的需要,另一方面也是由于政府权力控制知识生产的重点大学政策的内在逻辑.总体而言,这一时期的重点大学政策虽然以改革苏联体制为目标,在实践中依然没有摆脱苏联模式的影响,突出表现为两个方面:第一,在大学管理体制上集权统一;第二,在知识生产上,表现为重视自然科学类知识生产,忽视乃至压制人文社会科学类知识生产.
