Learning Across Contexts

This paper maintains that post Lave and Wenger VET has overlooked the relation between vocational curricula and workplace practice. The paper attributes this oversight to Kant's legacy in the ‘situated’ tradition in VET and critics of that tradition. The paper argues that when Vygotsky's concept of mediation is allied to the recent work of Robert Brandom and John McDowell, it is possible to formulate a non‐dualisitic conception of the relation between mind and world that goes beyond the Kantian separation of mind and allows us to grasp the interdependency of theory and practice. The paper concludes by outlining the implications of this philosophical and theoretical claim for vocational curriculum and vocational pedagogy.

文章通过对全球范围内14个研究基地、1500多名青少年的混合研究,验证了在文化和环境基础上人们对抗逆力涵义理解的四种命题:(1)除了全球性,青少年身处的文化性、环境性因素都会对其抗逆力的形成产生影响;(2)抗逆力对青少年产生怎样的影响取决于形成该抗逆力的具体文化和环境;(3)影响青少年抗逆力形成的因素与能够反映青少年的文化背景显著相关;(4)个人与其所处文化环境之间张力(tension)的解决方法,很大程度上反映出个体与抗逆力之间的联系。     

Support Across the Curriculum

The planning, preparation and delivery of learning experiences tend to be vertically determined by subject departments but pupils experience the curriculum as horizontal, moving across from one subject to another through any typical day. Support teaching may be less effective if it operates through the practices of the vertical at the expense of the realities of the horizontal. Ian C. Copeland, senior lecturer, Department of Education and Management, Reading University, and part time support teacher in a comprehensive school, proposes a horizontal model.

Needs Assessment Across Disciplines

The needs assessment process, as a tool for decision making, continues to enjoy high visibility in the professional literature, especially in the area of training and human resource development. This literature review explores needs assessment in selected disciplines and provides generalizations about its application. Five needs assessment variables guided our survey of the purposes and methods of the needs assessments described in 106 articles in five general areas (applied sciences, education/technology, medicine/allied health, business/information sciences, and human/public services).
