Russian Laser Music Show Ignites Beijing

After a string of stirring art events in the ongoing Year of Russia in China such as the grand exhibition reviewing Russia＇s oil art in the pastthree centuries and the marvelous performance by Little Birch Song ＆ Dance Ensemble, Beijing embraced the largest and most grandiose show ever held in the country.On June 10, some 100 Russian and Chinese artists jointly presented a laser music show, setting the summer skyline in Beijing ablaze and stirring up the audience with modem technical and artistic novelties of light, sound and electricity.     

Island of Music Embraces National Violin Competition

The 8th National Violin Performance Competition, under the auspices of Chinese Cultural Ministry and sponsored and organized by Qingdao Municipality, took place in the city of Qingdao from September 17 to 26. 87 contestants from a dozen of prestigious music conservatories from across the country competed in the final round, presenting high-level art galas to this beautiful seaside city.

Music Tour Cements China-Eastern Europe Cultural Ties

From October 17 to November 1, 2012, Chinese Cultural Ministry organized a study tour for artistic directors of twelve prestigious music festivals from Central and Eastern European countries, including Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.These artistic directors paid visits to Shanghai, Suzhou, Guizhou and Beijing, seeing music showcases, attending forums and festivals, meeting Chinese musicians and planning cooperation projects with Chinese arts institutions.     

Pre-Hispanic Music Survivals from the Canary Islands

This article discusses the evidence, mainly ethno-historical, for music and dance in the Canary Islands prior to the incorporation of the archipelago in the Crown of Castile during the fifteenth century. The survival of essential elements of pre-Hispanic music and dance is noted in some present-day dance forms, as are related customs in some of the islands’ main festivals. The relationship between pre-Hispanic dance and the Renaissance and early modern European dance, in the Canaries, is described and identified as an area for future research.
