The use of computers for simulation can be used not only to introduce CUSUM (cumulative sum) techniques but also to improve students' understanding of statistical inference and decision making.     

Using Consulting for Teaching Elementary Statistics

Consulting in statistics is usually deferred until at least near the end of a first degree, but this article shows how some aspects can be effectively taught to students in upper secondary or early tertiary courses in a way which reinforces their learning of standard basic concepts. We suggest that the existence of a real client adds a degree of realism not available in other ways, and emphasizes to students the importance of blending statistical calculations with meaningful communication.

Teaching Introductory Business Statistics Using the DCOVA Framework

Introductory business statistics students often receive little guidance on how to apply the methods they learn to further business objectives they may one day face. And those students may fail to see the continuity among the topics taught in an introductory course if they learn those methods outside a context that provides a unifying framework. The DCOVA problem‐solving framework that presents discrete steps to define, collect, organize, visualize, and analyze data addresses these concerns while helping to enhance the perceived value of taking statistics courses.

Teaching Engineering Design Using Computer Workstations

This paper introduces the computer workstations within the School of Electronic System Engineering at the Polytechnic of Central London and describes the structured initial teaching exercises introduced at the beginning of the 3-year enhanced degree courses in Electronic Engineering and in Control and Computer Engineering. A brief overview of the development of the use of computer workstations in engineering and industrial design is also presented.     

Pass the Globe: Teaching Bootstrapping Without Using a Computer

While bootstrapping is a computationally intensive procedure, teaching about the concept does not necessarily require any more technology than a simple calculator. This article describes an interactive teaching approach for introducing bootstrapping without using a statistics program or a computer.

Experiences from Teaching Statistics Using Directed Projects in Greek Elementary School

In this article, we present the main findings of an experiment which involves teaching statistics in the 5th and 6th grade classes of Greek elementary schools. This experiment focused on the evaluation of the potentials of teaching statistical concepts and methods using directed projects.
