This article reports on students' decision making processes and sources of knowledge in an integrated teaching and learning setting. The study was conducted in a Year 9 classroom as students undertook a 10-week solar-powered boat project and were exposed to related concepts from science, technology and mathematics. Data collection involved detailed case studies of three pairs of students, interviews, classroom observation and analysis of the artefacts and portfolios produced by the students. Students were found to access knowledge from a variety of sources, including teacher's notes from formal instruction, informal interactions with the teacher, observation of and interaction with other students, as well as sources outside the classroom. However, the utility of the knowledge sources was influenced by the nature of the task. When students were performing open-ended tasks, they drew on a wider variety of knowledge sources than when they were performing less open tasks. Moreover, subject discipline-based sources often were not as helpful in solving open tasks. The study leads to several important implications for designing teaching and learning in integrated curriculum settings.  相似文献

Recent papers have drawn a contrast between habits of mind in science and religion and it has been argued that, because of the different nature of these habits of mind, science education and religious education are necessarily in conflict with each other. The present paper draws on research into habits of mind in science and their relationship with wider scholarly activity and decision making and presents a case that habits of mind in science and religion are much more alike than has been presumed. In contrast to the dogmatic materialism which others have claimed lies behind the practice of modern science a more tentative form of naturalism is advocated in this paper for those who carry out scientific research. Some aspects of the nature of exemplary religious education are pointed out and implications for science education are discussed.  相似文献

以高职院校学生为对象,采用问卷调查法,选择职业价值观问卷和职业决策自我效能问卷研究了高职院校大学生职业价值观与职业决策自我效能之间的关系。研究结果表明:不同年级的高职生职业价值观存在显著性差异,大二学生的职业价值观高于大一学生;不同性别的高职生职业决策自我效能存在非常显著的差异,男生的职业决策自我效能大于女生;高职生职业价值观与职业决策自我效能之间存在显著的正相关。  相似文献

The authors examined the effectiveness of a group career counseling model (Pyle, 2007 ) on college students’ career decision‐making abilities. They used a Solomon 4‐group design and found that students who participated in the career counseling groups had significantly greater increases in career decision‐making abilities than those who did not participate in the groups. ABSTRACT: A graduate student survey was developed and administered annually for 3 y by a graduate student committee in the School of Fisheries, Univ. of Washington, Seattle, Wash., U.S.A. The main objective of the 5-point rating scale survey was to raise the consciousness level of faculty as to how they were being perceived as major professors by their students. Results indicate that the anonymous survey can be an effective assessment tool in the development of mentoring skills by a major professor, is a heuristic device, and should be continually improved based on results and feedback. It is also important that there be some way to help faculty with the process of improvement of mentoring skills if that is a desired outcome.  相似文献
