Counselling International Students in Turkish Universities: Current Status and Recommendations

In the present study, the current status of international students and counselling services provided at Turkish universities is addressed. Firstly, a brief history of counselling and counselling services in Turkish universities is examined, leading to a consideration of the current status of international students and counselling services. Finally, key elements for working effectively with international students are presented and a long-term orientation model that might be applicable for Turkish university counselling centers is proposed.

反对唯SCI论文的评估体系,不是反对对研究生进行SCI期刊论文写作和发表的训练。在今天科技交流日益重要的时代,培养学生这种能力显得非常迫切。这类课程的教学主力军是外语教师而非专业教师。为了便于教师和学生的教和学,我们设计了一个基于篇章、句法、元话语的体裁分析框架和一套显性的脚手架式的教学方法。结果发现学生用很少的时间提高了语篇布局的结构整体写作能力,有意识地运用语言资源表达立场和观点的能力,遵守学术规范和运用引用策略的能力,以及发现问题的批判性思辨能力。     

Internationalization of British Universities: Learning from the Experiences of International Counselling Students

This retrospective qualitative study investigated the experiences of 12 international students in a postgraduate counselling programme at a higher education (HE) institution in the UK. Results from an earlier empirical study on these students (Pattison, Counselling and Psychotherapy Research 3: 107–113, 2003) were mapped against concepts derived from a content analysis of Turner and Robson’s (2008) work on the internationalization of HE institutions. The focus is on what can be learned from the perceptions of participants when reframed and reviewed through an internationalization lens. The paper suggests ways in which British universities can enhance the development of academic and intercultural competencies and support the international counselling student to receive an internationalized HE experience.     

A Sense of Story: Interactive Journal Writing in Kindergarten

Journal writing is a way to encourage process writing which promotes a sense of story. Written interactions or dialogues between the child and the teacher can support the story as children are involved in the writing process. The article describes one way to support the development of a story through journal writing. Children begin the story on their first page of the journal. The teacher responds in writing and the child subsequently converses with the teacher to produce stories and personal narratives. The written conversation helps children produce a story with a sense of meaning. Suggestions for kindergarten teachers and teacher education students include how to create the journal, what the writing center looks like, the necessity for a long-term commitment to writing, the importance of verbal and written interactions, and directions for beginning the interactive journal writing experience.     

Characteristics of Korean International Students and Their Perceived Preferences for Counselling Style

This study investigated how particular within-group variables (gender, marital status, and duration of stay in the United States) affected Korean international students' perceived preferences for counselling style (directive vs. nondirective). It was found that counselling style and the within-group variables considered interacted to affect differentially Korean international students' perceived preferences for counselling style. Female students showed stronger preference for a directive counselor and a significant interaction was found among marital status, duration of stay, and counselling style.     

Recommendations for Writing Case Study Articles for Publication in the Journal of College Counseling

The author presents recommendations for writing case studies for publication in the Journal of College Counseling . Recommendations fall into 2 categories: (a) ethical considerations and (b) criteria essential to methodological rigor (e.g., Hyett, Kenny, & Dickson‐Swift, 2014 ). The article is intended to guide and encourage prospective case study authors.     

Journal Writing with Web 2.0 Tools: A Vision for Older Adults

This article describes how Web 2.0 technologies may facilitate journaling and related inquiry methods among older adults. Benefits and limitations of journaling are summarized as well as computer skills of older adults. We then describe how Web 2.0 technologies can enhance journaling among older adults by diminishing feelings of isolation, promoting collaboration, establishing learning communities that overcome physical boundaries, and facilitating storage and dissemination of resources. The article concludes by identifying several factors that must be anticipated when using these technologies and provides ideas to overcome privacy, access, and posthumous management.     

新疆国际问题研究的飞跃——写在“欧亚战略丛书”出版之际

新疆人民出版社2003年出版了六部国际问题学术专著。文章通过对新疆国际问题研究史的回顾和对这六部书的评介,特别是对这些学术专著提供的新概念、新视角、新的形势概括和新的学术观点,以及其价值和意义的分析概括,认为新疆国际问题的研究有了质的飞跃,可以说,这方面的工作已步入国内学术这一领域研究的前沿。
