This paper argues that educational technology in the Greek-Cypriot educational system has reached a critical point since ICT now appears for the first time in the newly reformed national curriculum. This study primarily illuminates the ways in which ICT is depicted in this curriculum with regards to primary education and, secondarily, explores whether the approach adopted appears consistent. The methodology employed involves a documentary analysis of the reformed curriculum in terms of four domains: rationale, content, teaching methodology as well as achievement processes across the 15 subject areas. Findings indicate that references to three ICT-related words are only made in some subjects. In addition, these references reflect either the socio-economic rationale towards ICT competency -also expressed in the general aims of the new NC- or the educational rationale, underlying the contribution of ICT to teaching and learning. Consequently, the approach towards new technologies fails to emerge as systematic across all primary school subjects. In this regard, although the inclusion of ICT in the reformed NC of the Greek-Cypriot educational system is certainly a way forward, the intended curriculum needs to be revised to reflect a clear approach, resembling either a focus on ICT competency or the educational perspective, or both. The effectiveness of a smoking-prevention program—incorporated within a traditional science curriculum—was assessed in terms of attitude modification in such categories as health, peer pressure, and social image as related to smoking. The study indicates that most relevant attitudes, the emotionally intense in particular, are modifiable in the desired direction, although the changes are small. Some gender differences in the recorded changes suggest a difference in the dynamics of the response to smoking intervention between male and female high school students. A desired change of attitude frequency distributions (e.g., from less extreme to more extreme responses) has also been found. In addition, the tendency of the experimental students to actively act against smoking within family circles increased, although not significantly. All the above was accompanied by a decrease in the number of smokers in the experimental group and a significant increase in the number of smokers in the control group. These results suggest that it is educationally possible to modify attitudes in health education in the desired direction by means of a properly designed interdisciplinary science curricular unit implemented within ongoing traditional science teaching. 相似文献

How can the science curriculum make a contribution to education for democracy in 'the risk society'? The characteristics of a 'risk society' are identified and the problematic role of scientific knowledge in such a society briefly reviewed. Kuhn's notion of science as a community of practice is suggested as the most appropriate model if the aim is to teach a view of science which is compatible with the provisional, 'risky' and collaborative nature of all knowledge in the contemporary context. Those features of the model which are particularly relevant to life in present-day society are clarified and the educational implications of this particular model are discussed under three headings: science as a way of knowing; science as cultural communication; and science as an expression of interests. 相似文献

以福建省某两所高校为研究对象,运用文献资料法、SPSS数理统计法、比较分析法、调查法等,对福建省高校体育教育训练学硕士研究生课程设置进行比较分析研究.研究结果认为:该两所高校的体育教育训练学硕士课程设置各有千秋,但总体上都注重于外语学习,注重于学生个体的兴趣和爱好,注重学生的个性化发展,但两高校课程设置又各有长短,应相互交流学习,取长补短,同时应放远眼光,走出去,请进来,多向省外各兄弟院校学习取经,进一步挖掘各校教学潜能,争取增设一些交叉学科和跨学科课程,进一步提高硕士研究生教学质量. 相似文献

The purpose of the Gender and Ethnic Equity in Science Education (GEESE) program, conducted during the student-teaching semester, was to provide preservice science teachers with the opportunity to use clinical observations and reflection as vehicles for discovery of the disparate school experiences of the diverse students in their science classrooms. The preservice teachers examined curricular materials in use during their practicum, student and teacher behaviors, the quantity and quality of student–teacher interactions, and grouping and evaluative strategies before attempting self-analysis at the conclusion of the program. Interviews were used as the source of qualitative evidence of change in the preservice teachers' attitudes and teaching behaviors. While students approved of the program initially, they eventually dismissed issues of gender and ethnic equity as critical once they began struggling with the inadequate academic preparation of their students and scant material resources. Ultimately, the preservice teachers identified the GEESE program as useful in that it provided them with specific critical techniques, but inappropriately placed at the conclusion of their professional development sequence. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. To help the 50,000 people living in Saradidi improve their community, the Anglican Church of the Province of Kenya of originally organized a health project in 1979 as the cornerstone of an extensive rural development effort to reach people through parish and congregational committees. The Saradidi Health Program intended to reduce the high rates of infant and child mortality and morbidity by directly involving the community in the provision of its own health care and the improvement of its quality of life. Each village elected its own health and development commitee and later selected volunteers to work in the community. Training was given to those selected to organize teir communities for the health program--the Nyamrerwa or Village Health Helpers (VHHS). Their task was not simply to provide information about appropriate health practices, but the much more difficult 1 of spanning the 2 worlds of medical science and traditional beliefs and practices. Over the course of several years, the experience at Saradidi proved that these 2 worlds need not be in competition. They could be complementary provided that the VHHS were capable of integrating their newly-acquired knowledge with the common sense of centuries-old practice. An evaluation of the program has shown that the VHHS have now begun to accoomplish their task of influencing the practices and changing the attitudes of the people in Saradidi. The nonformal approach is effective because it involves the whole community in the process of promoting good health. The VHHS act as a catalyst, bringing together useful information and practices from the outside and making them part of the community's own information and practices. 相似文献

In many western countries attention is currently being given to the participation of students in tertiary Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. This is a result of internationally competing economic ambitions, coupled with acute shortages on the STEM labour market, a declining interest among students for STEM education and a long‐lasting under‐representation of women. However, despite similarities concerning policy attitudes and identified problems, western countries differ considerably from each other concerning the percentages of students that choose STEM education and the proportion of female students included here. Based on an in‐depth study in Sweden, the UK, the US and the Netherlands, this article investigates the reasons for these cross‐national differences. At the heart of the explanations lie the accessibility of the STEM pipeline, the level of broad‐based interdisciplinary studies as opposed to compartmentalization and early specialization, labour market characteristics, social traditions and government policies. 相似文献

The author outlines the profound and radical changes which the scientific and technical revolution has produced in the work processes of modern industry. These changes have led to an intellectualization of vocational education. On this premise he develops criteria for a vocational education focussed on general technical subjects and problems. The identification of these criteria is explained and supported by salient examples illustrating the relationship of vocational education to the three sectors of economy (industry, agriculture and services). In the final section the conceptual analysis is complemented by examples of current reforms in the educational system of the USSR.
Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag umreist die tiefgreifenden und radikalen Veränderungen, die sich auf Grund der wissenschaftlich-technischen Revolution in den Arbeitsprozessen der modernen Industrie ergeben haben und eine Intellektualisierung der beruflichen Bildung bewirken. Auf dieser Grundlage werden die Kriterien eines berufsbildenden Unterrichts entwickelt, in dem allgemein-technische Fächer und Fragestellungen eine zentrale Rolle spielen. Diese Kriterienbestimmung wird erläutert und mit hervorstechenden Beispielen belegt, die das Verhältnis der beruflichen Bildung zu den drei ökonomischen Sektoren (Industrie, Landwirtschaft und Dienstleistung) verdeutlichen. Der letzte Abschnitt dient der Exemplifizierung der konzeptionellen Analyse durch eine Darlegung der gegenwärtigen Reformen im sowjetischen Bildungswesen.
Résumé L'auteur souligne les changements profonds, parfois radicaux que la révolution technique et scientifique a provoqués dans les procédés de travail de l'industrie moderne, entraînant une intellectualisation de l'enseignement professionnel. Partant de là, l'auteur expose les critères d'un enseignement professionnel axé sur des sujets et des problèmes techniques d'ordre général. Le choix de ces critères est expliqué et appuyé sur des exemples frappants qui illustrent le rapport entre l'enseignement professionnel et les trois secteurs de l'économie (industrie, agriculture et services). Dans la dernière partic l'auteur complète cette analyse conceptuelle en donnant des exemples de réformes actuellement en cours dans le système d'éducation soviétique.相似文献
