Accuracy of a combined score of zygote and embryo morphology for selecting the best embryos for IVF

Objective:To evaluate the accuracy of a scoring system combining zygote and embryo morphology in predicting the outcome of in vitro fertilization(IVF)treatment.Methods:In a study group,117 consecutive IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI) cycles with embryo transfer were carried out and 312 embryos were scored Using a combmed scoring system(CSS)of zygote and embryo morphology before transplantation.In a control group,a total of 420 IVF or ICSI cycles were carried out and 1176 embryos were scored using a cumulative embryo score(CES).The effects of the combined scoring system on the embryo implantation rate and pregnancy rate per cycle were analyzed.Results:Using the combined scoring system,the embryo implantation rate(27.6%)and the clinical pregnancy rate(48.7%)were significantly higher than those in the control group(20.8%and 38.6%,respectively).Also,the implantation rate of embryos scoring≥70 (38.5%:82 sacs/213 embryos)was significantly higher (P＜0.001)than that of embryos scoring＜70(4%:4 sacs/99 embryos).The pregnancy rate of patients with embryos scoring≥70 using the combined scoring system(66.7%)Was significantly higher(P＜0.001)than that of patients with embryos scoring≥20 using the cumulative embryo score(59.0%).Conclusion:The results suggest that selecting embryos with a high Score(≥70)using the combined scoring system could inerease the implantation rate and pregnancy rate,and that using a scoring system combining assessments of human zygotes and pre-implantation embryos might predict IVF outcomes more accurately than using a cumulafive embryo score.

Simultaneous removal of cadmium and sulfamethoxazole from aqueous solution by rice straw biochar

The simultaneous sorption behavior and characteristics of cadmium (Cd) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) on rice straw biochar were investigated. Isotherms of Cd and SMX were well modeled by the Langmuir equation (R2 >0.95). The calculated maximum adsorption parameter (Q) of Cd was similar in single and binary systems (34129.69 and 35919.54 mg/kg, respectively). However, the Q of SMX in a binary system (9182.74 mg/kg) was much higher than that in a single system (1827.82 mg/kg). The presence of Cd significantly promoted the sorption of SMX on rice straw biochar. When the pH ranged from 3 to 7.5, the sorption of Cd had the characteristics of a parabola pattern with maximum adsorption at pH 5, while the adsorption quantity of SMX decreased with increasing pH, with maximum adsorption at pH 3. The amount of SMX adsorbed on biochar was positively correlated with the surface area of the biochar, and the maximum adsorption occurred with d 250 biochar (biochar with a diameter of 150-250 μm). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that the removal of Cd and SMX by rice straw biochar may be attributed to precipitation and the formation of surface complexes between Cd or SMX and carboxyl or hydroxyl groups. The results of this study indicate that rice straw biochar has the potential for simultaneous removal of Cd and SMX from co-contaminated water.

Lipoic acid (LA) has received great attention in the area of gold surface functionalization. In this study, LA was employed as a linker for the attachment of antibody to the gold surface of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) chip. By using this chip in a homemade SPR immunosensor, low molecular weight compound 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD) can be detected at a low level of 0.01 ng/mL. There is a good linear relationship(R2 =0.943 1) between the results of SPR biosensor and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).

Removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution by iron nanoparticles

Groundwater remediation by nanoparticles has收稿日期increasing interest in recent years. This report presents a thorough evaluation of hexavalent chromium removal in aqueous solutions using iron (Fe0) nanoparticles. Cr(Ⅵ) is a major pollutant of groundwater. Zero-valent iron, an important natural reductant of Cr(Ⅵ), is an option in the remediation of contaminated sites, transforming Cr(Ⅵ) to essentially nontoxic Cr(Ⅲ). At a dose of 0.4 g/L, 100% of Cr(Ⅵ) (20 mg/L) was degraded. The Cr(Ⅵ) removal efficiency decreased significantly with increasing initial pH. Different Fe0 type was compared in the same conditions. The reactivity was in the order starch-stabilized Fe0 nanoparticles＞Fe0 nanoparticles＞Fe0 powder＞Fe0 filings. Electrochemical analysis of the reaction process led to the conclusion that Cr(OH)3 should be the final product of Cr(Ⅵ). Iron nanoparticles are good choice for the remediation of heavy metals in groundwater.
