英语专业阅读教学中合作学习策略应用的实证研究

文章运用实证研究方法,以作者授课班级为研究对象,以《泛读教程Reading Course 1》作为教学内容,探讨合作学习策略在英语专业阅读教学中的运用,旨在验证合作学习能否提高不同水平学生的英语阅读成绩、增强学生的阅读兴趣及完善学生的社交技能。结果表明,在实验班英语阅读教学中采用合作学习模式,该班学生阅读成绩有一定的提高,尤其成绩中下组学生的阅读成绩有较大提高;两班在实验后的阅读成绩差异较小,表明合作学习教学方式短期内对提高英语专业学生的英语阅读成绩效果不明显,但对于激发学生的阅读兴趣,增强学生的阅读信心,培养学生的合作意识和交际能力等起到了积极作用。     

English in Education: the first fifty years

On the fiftieth anniversary of the first publication of English in Education, this article reviews the journal's contribution to research and practice in the teaching of English. A thematic analysis based on close study of a sample of volumes is arranged chronologically (to show the development of ideas and practices) and thematically in terms of language mode (speaking; writing; reading, including new technologies). The article argues that the journal archive can shed light on the educational past in ways that can effectively inform the educational present and help to set agenda for the future.

A Study on Cross-cultural Barriers in Reading of English

This paper,from the perspective of cross-cultural communication,is trying to analyze the role of cultural knowledge in reading comprehension,and to generalize the comprehension barriers Chinese students meet in the comprehension process of English reading and explain the relationship between the barriers and language.The paper then analyzes the internal causes of the barriers.And lastly,it brings forth approaches and methods for eliminating the barriers.     

评价系统在英语阅读中的运用研究

评价系统主要是用来分析语篇的人际意义,而作为语篇分析为主的英语阅读教学则主要是通过学习者对其文本中的各种语言信息或标记及语篇的结构特征进行分析来达到学习者对所阅读的文本研究和理解的目的。通过评价理论的学习,可以帮助英语阅读者自主地掌握和不断地提高英语阅读的水平和理解的能力,进一步达到英语学习的最终目的。     

Prizing children's science information books: the text,reading and the reader

The Royal Society Young People's Book Prize is awarded annually in the United Kingdom for the best science information book, and the winning book is chosen by panels of young people. This article discusses the findings of a study of the responses to the books and to their judging experience of young people who participated on panels in the 2011 Royal Society Young People's Book Prize. Interviews were conducted with 46 young people, aged from 8 to 14 years, from across the United Kingdom. The nature of contemporary non‐fiction books is discussed, specifically science information books. The impact of their design and format on reading is explored, as is the social nature of reading, which was a consequence of the judging panel context. The young people had opinions on the age range for which each book was most suitable, but they generally did so in such a way as to include themselves. It was found that their judging responsibilities contributed to these young people displaying a positive reading identity and sense of self‐efficacy.     

文字云图的英语阅读教学设计与实践——以文字云图工具Wordle为例

文字云图是通过文字云图工具制作而成的反映文字频率的可视图的一种形象比喻,可以作为一种有效的文本分析工具应用在教学中。文章梳理了国内外文字云图应用研究现状,指出国内该领域研究的不足。并以英语阅读教学为切入点,从文字云图的可视化表征、生成线索词、语义和表象的双重表征等优势分析了文字云图应用在英语阅读教学中的可行性,以Wordle为例选择高中英语教材中的一节课"Harry Potter"进行了研究设计与实践,研究结果表明文字云图的使用能够调动学生的兴趣,给学生的英语阅读带来积极的促进作用。     

论交际教学法在大学英语阅读课中的应用

交际教学法产生于20世纪70年代初期,在教学中经过多年实践的考验,得到了不断的发展和改进,已逐渐被大多数英语教师所接受,并且在英语教学中起支配作用。大学英语阅读课教学中不可以忽视交际教学法。     

Personalized learning in iSTART: Past modifications and future design

Abstract

Computer-based learning environments (CBLEs) provide unprecedented opportunities for personalized learning at scale. One such system, iSTART (Interactive Strategy Training for Active Reading and Thinking) is an adaptive, game-based tutoring system for reading comprehension. This paper describes how efforts to increase personalized learning have improved the system. It also provides results of a recent implementation of an adaptive logic that increases or decreases text difficulty based on students’ performance rather than presenting texts randomly. High school students who received adaptive text selection showed increased sense of learning. Adaptive text selection also resulted in greater pre-training to post-training comprehension test gains, especially for less-skilled readers. The findings demonstrate that system-driven, just-in-time support consistent with the goals of personalized learning benefit the efficacy of computer-based learning environments.
