Based on work undertaken in a joint international project focusing on the process and teaching of writing in English/US classrooms, this article looks at the impact government initiatives on assessment and accountability have on classroom practices and the process of writing. These initiatives are encoded in the Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) in England and the Proficiency Tests in the US. The first year of the project has gathered and analyzed data from a longitudinal study of writing in the US, focused on the state of Ohio, and a series of contrasting case studies in England.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to analyze the content features of educational technology curricula for primary education developed by national governments. A qualitative cross-case document analysis of the national educational technology curriculum of Norway, Flanders and England was conducted. The analysis focuses on the underlying visions, specific aims and instruction related aspects that are integrated in the national educational technology curricula of the three cases under investigation. The results indicate that specific aims mainly focus on the critical use of educational technology; safe and responsible use of educational technology; information retrieval, processing and production; communication by use of educational technology; and use of educational technology for subject learning. It is possible that a discrepancy exists between the concepts of digital literacy and the specific aims that are addressed in educational technology curricula. Moreover, the rationales that underlie educational technology curricula represent a catalytic and social point of view rather than an economic one. The implications of our findings for curriculum developers and researchers are discussed.  相似文献

On-the-job training can be defined as the enhancement of job competence acquisition, involving one or more of the following elements: (i) the actual work processes, (ii) the physical work environment, and (iii) the social work environment. Research into on-the-job is in its infancy, although it comprises a substantial portion of employee training. There is an important distinction between structured and unstructured on the-job training, but structure is just one of the dimensions needed to describe the variety of forms on-the-job training can take. Recent studies offer insights into conditions, processes, and effects of on-the-job training. These insights should be integrated in a theory on on-the-job training.  相似文献

This paper assesses the present state of the art of the economics of education in developing countries in the context of the papers in this special issue. These papers help fill analytical gaps in the field by addressing the frequently overlooked roles of organization and incentives in shaping more efficient and equitable educational outcomes. Additional work needs to be done to broaden the field's analytical framework if economists are to have more influence in favor of such outcomes. High on the list is to include within the field's analytical framework the behavioral relationships that shape decisions whether to implement more efficient or equitable policies.  相似文献

This article reports on a systematic review of the Self-Study of Teacher Education Practices research literature published between 1990 and 2012. Self-study research refers to teacher educators researching their practice with the purpose of improving it, making explicit and validating their professional expertise and, at the same time, contributing to the knowledge base of teacher education. Reflecting our analysis, we defined self-study as a research approach in the field of teacher education which can be typified by the following characteristics: self-study research focuses on one’s own practice; for this reason, it privileges the use of qualitative research methods; collaborative interactions play a central role in the research process; and its validation is based on trustworthiness. Furthermore, we identified two tensions inherent in the self-study work, on which researchers always and continuously need to position themselves for self-study inquiries to achieve its purposes: the tension between relevance and rigour on the one hand, and that of effectiveness and understanding on the other hand.  相似文献
