Mutual information (MI)-based image registration is effective in registering medical images, but it is computationally expensive. This paper accelerates MI-based image registration by dividing computation of mutual information into spatial transformation and histogram-based calculation, and performing 3D spatial transformation and trilinear interpolation on graphic processing unit (GPU). The 3D floating image is downloaded to GPU as flat 3D texture, and then fetched and interpolated for each new voxel location in fragment shader. The transformed results are rendered to textures by using frame buffer object (FBO) extension, and then read to the main memory used for the remaining computation on CPU. Experimental results show that GPU-accelerated method can achieve speedup about an order of magnitude with better registration result compared with the software implementation on a single-core CPU.  相似文献

Despite calls for greater agreement in defining the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), terms that resemble SoTL are proliferating. An NSF-sponsored center for teaching and learning coined its own term, teaching-as-research (TAR), believing it would resonate better with research-active scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. To understand whether this was a wise strategy, we interviewed 43 participants from courses that sought to explain and demonstrate TAR. Our study found that participants defined TAR with varying complexity and that disciplinary concepts generally provided “conceptual handles” for making sense of TAR. However, tailoring a term to particular disciplines entails several challenging tradeoffs.

明清之际,以利玛窦为代表的耶稣会士为了达到传播基督福音之目的,翻译介绍了大量的西方科学书籍,希望中国人能由科学真理走向启示真理。他们所传入的科学,对当时的部分中国士大夫产生了较大的影响。他们的贡献不仅在于传入了一些新科学或学科,还在于他们把西方的科学理念带到了中国。中国的学术在以孔子为代表的儒家思想的影响下,强调的是人的道德层面,重身心,轻实用,并认为修身之类才是“实学”;而把具体的科技斥之为“器末”,则不“入流”。这是中国为什么有科技成就而没有系统的科学的原因。相比较而言,西方哲学从亚里士多德时代起在重视人的道德层面的同时,一开始就强调对事物对自然的究诘;这与西方科学明的形成是密不可分的。这样,西方所强调的“实学”更是一种能带来物质明的“实学”。跟西方的“实学”相比,中国古代所强调的“实学”,倒更像是空疏之学。所以,本通过对双方“实学”的比较研究,试图从这个角度看中西化在这个方面的差异,从而更好地认识这两种化。  相似文献

Courses in anatomy have traditionally relied on lectures and cadaver dissection laboratories. In speech and hearing sciences, there tends to be less access to cadavers than in medical schools and other allied health professions. It is more typical to use anatomical models, diagrams and lecture slides. Regardless of the resources available, anatomy is a subject that lends itself to hands‐on learning. This article briefly reviews teaching methods and describes a variety of innovative activities to enhance learning of anatomical concepts and clinical relevance of anatomy for speech production. Teaching strategies and activities were developed to capitalize on students' multimodal learning preferences as revealed by responses to a survey administered to 49 undergraduates in the beginning of an anatomy of speech production course. At the end of the semester, students completed a second survey. A five‐point Likert scale was used to assess the usefulness of each activity as a learning tool or level of clinical relevance and the level of enjoyability. The responses were overwhelmingly positive with level of usefulness and level of clinical relevance rated higher on average than the level of enjoyment. Abstract

This paper focuses on understanding and exploring how a group of university engineering and science tutor educators learn and assimilate new conceptions about their role in the face of the forces of globalisation that are transforming the system of higher education. This research paper adopts the notion of the Teacher Support Team (TST) as developed by Daniels and grounded in Vygotsky’s sociocultural account of the social formation of mind. These structures of meaning provide insight into the role played by the context, the interactions, the needs and the demands of actual activities, agreements and learning processes that this group of STEM lecturers undertook as they sought to transform their usual teaching methods that were focused on individual and isolated work in order to create more innovative practices and impact on their students’ performance. The analysis of this experience, which was based on the epistemological principles of the sociocultural approach, focused on the educational model that emerges from needs that are perceived and shared through the group’s interactions, as well as the transitions that such a team undergoes in its actions and decisions.  相似文献

Image feature optimization is an important means to deal with high-dimensional image data in image semantic un- derstanding and its applications. We formulate image feature optimization as the establishment of a mapping between high- and low-dimensional space via a five-tuple model. Nonlinear dimensionality reduction based on manifold learning provides a feasible way for solving such a problem. We propose a novel globular neighborhood based locally linear embedding (GNLLE) algorithm using neighborhood update and an incremental neighbor search scheme, which not only can handle sparse datasets but also has strong anti-noise capability and good topological stability. Given that the distance measure adopted in nonlinear dimensionality reduction is usually based on pairwise similarity calculation, we also present a globular neighborhood and path clustering based locally linear embedding (GNPCLLE) algorithm based on path-based clustering. Due to its full consideration of correlations between image data, GNPCLLE can eliminate the distortion of the overall topological structure within the dataset on the manifold. Experimental results on two image sets show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献
