Students’ English Learning Anxiety in Senior High School

Since 1970s,the research on second language acquisition has been developed with times.The research focus of lLanguage teach ing has shifted from the study of how to teach students to how to learn for students,with particular attention to explore the influence that students’psychological factors such as learning motivation,learning attitude and learning anxiety have on learning outcomes.Among those emotional variables,anxiety is considered to be one of the most critical psychological variables.English classroom anxiety is different from the ordinary classroom anxiety and receives much attention from scholars.Horwiz(1986) pointed out that foreign language anxiety is a unique phenomenon in language learning.In China,English learning in senior high school is a very important period.It is a common phenomenon to see students behaving anxiously in the English class.Therefore,the anxiety in the English class of senior high school de serves attention.This paper will analyze the main reasons of students’anxiety and points out several effectively methods to relieve their anxiety so as to enhance English classroom teaching and learning effect.     

On Cultivating Students’ Ability of Listening Comprehension in Senior High School in the Northwest of Guangxi

Nowadays, the role of listening course is changed and listening teaching begins to gain high priority in foreign language learning and teaching. However, the English level of students in China is still poor, especially in the northwest of Guangxi. One of the reasons is that teachers in senior high schools have a tendency to ignore listening, because they think that listening is time-consumed. They have to finish the teaching scheme punctually, though listening is the basic and important skill among the other three skills, listening teaching gains no large progress.     

A Survey on Students’Oral English Ability in High School

Oral communicative ability is of great importance to measure students’English ability.However,it long exists that English course of high schools focuses on grammar.In economically backward cities where high schools don’t treat speaking as a necessity,there is a prevailing phenomenon of high marks but dumb English.Based on the fact above,the author adopts some methods to conduct an investigation among teachers and students in a high school in Shanxi province.After an elaborate collection of data and a comprehensive conclusion of information related to students,the author points out problems existing in students’oral communication in the Grade Two;by analysis,the author points out some possible reasons for these problems;and lastly,the author puts forward some suggestions to these problems accordingly.     

An Empirical Study of Senior One High School Students’Cognitive Strategies in Learning English Vocabulary

The present research aims to find out (1) the general vocabulary learning beliefs of Senior One high school students in Guang zhou; (2) the general vocabulary cognitive strategies adopted by Senior One high school students in Guangzhou; (3) the differences be tween successful English learners and unsuccessful English learners in adopting cognitive strategies in their English vocabulary learning. A cohort of 68 Senior One high school students participate in the research. The results of the investigation show that the notion that vocabu lary should be learnt in context and through using is shared by the majority, that the most frequently used vocabulary cognitive strategies are inferencing, note-taking, contextualization and resourcing, that there is no significant difference between the successful English learners and the unsuccessful English learners in using identical vocabulary cognitive strategies.     

The Effects of Prior Knowledge and Audience on High School Students’ Writing

Abstract

To investigate the likelihood that explicit instruction in text summarization is being provided in classrooms, an "ideal lesson" method was used. Twelve experienced K-12 teachers were asked to devise summarization lessons appropriate to their learners and course content, to deliver the lessons, and to audiotape them. Lessons were transcribed, and instances of mentioning of summarization rules were coded. Only two teachers in the sample group discussed more than one of the five summarization rules assessed. The other teachers provided instruction that emphasized words and facts, despite their having been prompted to "assist students in improving text summaries." Staff development possibilities are discussed.

遵循指标体系编制原则,通过文献分析、调查修订,得出议论文写作能力的测评指标体系。通过探索性因素分析和验证性因素分析,论证了议论文写作能力测评的指标体系。高中生议论文写作能力框架主要由8个写作一级指标,包括搜集和积累材料的能力、思维能力、审题立论能力、选择论据能力、论证能力、语言表达能力、书写能力和修改能力及22个二级指标构成。

探讨黎明高中与平民中学的创办、运作以及消亡,对巴金等现代作家的研究、对中国现代安那其运动的研究,以及对现代文化史、教育史的研究,都有特殊的意义。黎明高中的发起人具有相对一致的革命倾向,其安那其色彩更是有深远的历史渊源。在黎明高中影响下平民中学后来也成为安那其运动的运动堡垒。黎明高中、平民中学还与上海的劳动大学、立达学园以至上海大学有着千丝万缕的关系。从20世纪20年代中期起泉州成为中国无政府主义分子活动的重要城市,而黎明高中和平民中学的相继创办把泉州安那其运动推向了高潮。黎明高中和平民中学在办学形式等方面也很有特色。1934年1月十九路军发动闽变失败,国民党中央军入闽,南京政权加强对福建地方政治军事控制,黎明高中和平民中学被取缔关闭也就成为历史的必然。

基于元认知理论,元认知和写作有密切的关系。由于元认知知识在元认知理论中的重要性以及便于测量的特点,英语写作元认知的实证研究主要集中在元认知知识上。在英语写作中,认知主体(即写作者)需要对自己和他人的知识进行加工,了解自我写作能力,清楚写作动机,认识写作中的问题,收集从事写作任务所需信息资料,以及对完成这一写作任务所需的努力,然后为达到写作目标采用有效的认知策略,包括组织安排文章内容、修改文章内容和形式等。这三种成分之间相互联系又相互独立,对培养学生元认知能力,提高学生英语写作水平有重要作用。
