Assessing how students value learning communication skills in an undergraduate anatomy and physiology course

Students, particularly those in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and healthcare-related programs, should develop proficient interpersonal skills, including communication. To help students develop effective communication skills, instructors need to consider the value students give to learning these skills. The Student Attitudes Toward Communication Skills Survey (SATCSS) was developed to measure how undergraduate students value learning communication skills based on Expectancy-Value Theory across three modes of communication (verbal, written, non-verbal). The survey was given to students interested in healthcare professions and enrolled in an undergraduate anatomy and physiology (A&P) course (n = 233) at a Midwest research active university. The survey showed evidence of validity, measuring two components: (1) “Value to Profession” (attainment and utility value) and (2) “Value to Self” (intrinsic value and cost). There was a significant difference in sub-scores among the four task values such that students thought that learning communication skills was important and relevant (high attainment and utility value) but not interesting (low intrinsic value) and costly. Students with high total scores valued communication skills across all four task values. As total value scores decreased, it was first due to students finding learning communication skills to be time prohibitive and then a lack of interest in learning communication skills. Based on these results, it is recommended that instructors incorporate communication skills training into content that is already part of their A&P course to reduce time concerns. Additional recommendations include using reflective activities and humor to increase student interest.     

师生岂能止于平等——我国当代师生交往制度的价值分析

从价值上考察我国当代师生交往制度是提升师生交往质量的必要环节。通过分析发现,我国现行师生交往制度的核心价值事实上是广义的平等,既包括人格平等,又包括师生的平等参与。但是,这与师生交往应该具有的教育性这一核心价值还有差距,让我国师生交往制度回归教育性是解决这一问题的必然选择。我国师生交往制度回归教育性就是要:以促进学生发展的教育性代替平等成为师生交往的核心价值追求;强化教师在师生交往中的领导者和组织者地位和责任;赋予教师在师生交往中的合法行为自主权。     

价值取向：划定新闻真实的彩笔

新闻真实是一定新闻传播价值取向下的真实,是价值框架下的真实。尽管真实不是价值,两者之间有着严格的逻辑界限,但就现实的新闻传播看,新闻真实拥有的“地图”是由新闻价值理念这只“彩笔”划定的。文章具体分析了制约新闻真实的几种价值观念,并考察价值取向制约新闻真实的主要表现。

歧义是一个语言表达式有一种以上意义的特殊语言现象.就是这种意义未定的独特性使得歧义在语言实践中具有极强的生命力.在文学作品、广告、修辞格、政治言辞、法庭辩论、幽默笑话、日常交际等不同语言场合中,人们有意地利用歧义以达到某种特殊的语用目的,充分显示出歧义在语言使用中的美学价值、艺术价值、修辞价值、信息价值和交际价值等不同的语用价值.

作为《空符号b lank-sign在人际交往中的价值初探》的姐妹篇,在前篇的基础上探析了＂个际交往＂中的空符号。个际交往是最普遍、最不可逃避的人际交往,它包括陌际交往、友际交往、恋际交往、亲际交往,其＂间隔＂、＂离别＂、＂代沟＂等空符号的价值更微妙、更需探究。机智启动＂物理距离＂、＂心理距离＂、＂价值判定距离＂等可操作性程序,有望提升人际交往的境界及效益,促进社会和谐。     

正义：中国当代道德教育的核心价值

在中国当代社会人际交往结构从差序格局向团体格局过渡的背景下,仁爱作为产生并适应于差序格局人际交往结构的道德教育核心价值逐渐失去了合理性与正当性。适应于团体格局人际交往结构的正义逐渐取代仁爱成为中国当代道德教育的核心价值,这是由于正义具有以下三项功能所致：调整同质性的人际关系、平衡道德权利与道德义务之间的关系以及表征中国当代道德教育的主导境界。

章从跨化交际的视角考察时间观念对与中西跨化交际的影响，具体分析了引起中西跨化交际障碍的一些时间因素，如时间顺序与话语方式、时间的价值与时间习惯、交际节奏与时间间隔的化差异。

The results confirm the suggestions in the field's literature that visual communication is important to workplace practice and that the role of the professional writer has expanded beyond the domain of the verbal. Visual communication responsibilities are complex and varied, but the practitioners surveyed typically engage in substantial amounts of design-related work and value visual communication abilities. The data suggest that visual communication should be a curricular priority in professional writing programs.     

礼貌原则对英语教学的启示

在跨文化交际中,只有充分尊重双方的语用文化和价值规约,才可能尽量减少语用失误,达到礼貌、得体、成功并且最有效的交际。

情态值－社会人际关系的镜子

韩礼德教授（Halliday)指出：在人类社会中,每个人都是“社会人”。人们之间的交际是“语境化的”,成功的交际受到诸多因素的制约。本主要探讨在交际过程中的“人际功能”因素的作用。“人际功能”,主要通过“情态”和“情态意义”实现。调查发现“权势因素”和“同等关系”对语言形式的选择起着重要的作用。一般地说来,当权势因素占主导地位时,具有较高社会地位的一方将会在话语中提高情态值。与此相反,具有较低社会地位的参与往往会在话语中降低情态值。交际之间的熟悉程度也会直接影响到情态值。     

Exploring teachers’ value orientations in literature and history secondary classrooms

This study explores teachers’ observable value orientations in literature and history classrooms, wishing to investigate how teachers infuse their values into instructional settings through their conceptions of the taught subject, the process of making meaning, and their involvement in the process of value communication.Through consideration of observation, interview and additional data, the common features underlying teachers’ value orientations are identified. One may conclude that although participants avoid the clear involvement in value communication, they search for a balance in defending the humanistic tradition and enacting a more critical and multi-perspective development of students’ sense about values. The taught subject seems to affect the displayed value orientations.

基于顺应理论与价值观,言语顺应的合理性是按文化价值观构建语言体系,而不是从经验与传统行为的准则中抽象出来。对顺应理论的正确认识可以帮助学习者在语言交际中正确理解和运用文化价值观。

浅论孟子的传播思想

孟子作为战国时期著名的思想家，其传播思想有深远的历史影响。孟子的传播思想建立在人性善的基本假设上。他认为传播的主要目的是传播孔子之道，正人心，息邪说；推行政治教化；争取民众的认同。对于作为传播者的士，他强调要有强烈的社会责任感，要求他们养浩然之气，动心忍性，积极进取，加强自身修养，同时反对自暴自弃，固步自封。他充分肯定了诚信在传播过程中的作用，主张尊重民意，讲真话，以理服人，以情动人。孟子传播思想对于今天的传播活动仍有一定的指导意义。     

文化差异和语用交际失误

跨文化、跨文化的语用现象涉及两种文化对交际的影响。本文试从两则个案来分析在不同文化背景下出现的语用交际失误，探讨不同文化的差异所引发的语用差异。     

Value System Similarity and the Supervisory Relationship

This study assesses the value systems held by supervisors and supervisees in the counseling practice. The relation between value system similarity and two dependent measures was examined; the level of communication within and the overall satisfaction with the relationship. Participants included 37 student supervisees and seven supervisors in a master's program. Correlation coefficients were computed to establish the relationships between the dependent measures and between value similarity measures and the dependent variables. The results did not indicate a meaningful relation between the similarity of value systems for supervisee and supervisor and either dependent measure. The results, however, did indicate a strong relationship between the supervisee's satisfaction with the supervisory relationship and the level of communication that was developed in supervision.

采用文献资料、调查分析的方法,在调查厦门市体育社团现状的基础上,进一步探讨了两岸（厦台）之间体育社团的交流现状和价值。研究表明,厦门市体育社团作为海峡两岸体育文化交流的载体,发挥着推动两岸积极开展体育交流合作,进一步发挥体育的独特作用;促进两岸关系的和平发展,使两岸体育交流的规模和范围逐步扩大,交流的内容和形式也呈多样化的发展趋势;促进体育产业发展,推动市场经济繁荣;加强竞技体育合作,共同推进两岸体育事业发展的重要作用。因此,厦门应充分利用地理优势与人文关系,借助＂五缘文化＂力的优势,充分发挥体育社团组织在两岸体育文化交流中的载体作用,加强与台湾的沟通,增强民族凝聚力,对推进两岸关系和平发展具有重要意义。
