A Study on the Translator’s Subjectivity of Wolf Totem

The translator, as the main body of a translation, has been in an invisible and ignored state for a long time. The position of the translator has been improved and the role of the translator has begun to be recognized since the field of translation studies multifaceted and deepened. In order to analyze the translator’s subjectivity better, the thesis states comprehensive definitions of the translator’s subjectivity and uses Wolf Totem as a case study, whose author is Jiang Rong and the translator is Howard Goldblatt, to show that how the translator Howard Goldblatt utilizes his subjectivity in the translation process.     

Translation of the Culture-loaded Words

The culture-loaded words are a special vocabulary of all kinds of language.And its translation has been one of the most difficult problems in the academic field.When culture-loaded words are being translated from the source language into the target language,the translator should have a clear knowledge of the differences in understanding the same culture-loaded word of both the source language reader and the target language reader.This paper deals with strategies for optimizing the translation of culture-loaded words,especially translating Chinese culture-loaded words into English.Alienation translation favors communicating the characteristics and connotation of Chinese and English culture.

Many linguists,translators,and theorists have been arguing over the approaches on translation.While putting these into use a translator may experience many pleasure and problems as well.The purpose of this article is to discuss the tasks of translation and the way of choosing the proper translation approaches according to the author’s own experience of practice.     

Study on the Fuzzy COntrol Strategy of Automobile with CVT

In order to study the dynamic characteristics of automobile with a CVT system, a bond graph analysis model of continuously variable transmission is established.On the base of the simulation state space equations that are established with bond graph theory,a fuzzy control strategy with an expert system of starting process has been introduced.Considering uncertain system parameters and exterior resistance disturbing,the effect of the profile of membership function and the defuzzification algorthm on the capacity of the fuzzy controller has been studied.The result of simulation proves that the proposed fuzzy controller is effective and feasible,Such controller has been employed in the actual control and has proved practicable.The study lays a foundation for design of the fuzzy controller for automobile with a CVT system.

Undercooling and Solidification of Sn—Pb Alloy Droplets Prepared by Uniform Droplet Spray

The undercooling and solidification of 150μm and 185μm droplets of Sn-5%Pb alloy prepared by the uniform droplet spray(UDS) process have been investigated.The enthalpy of the droplet has been measured by non-adiabatic calorimetric method as a function of the flight distance.A droplet solidification simulation model has been used to compare with the experimental data.The results show that the enthalpy released by the droplets in the calorimeter 11.88J/g and 22.29J/g less than the simulated values up to a certain flight distance at 0.485m and 0.460m for 150μm and 185μm droplets respectively,but agrees with the expected values at larger distance.The nucleation of the droplets takes place at the distance where the experimental and simulated enthalpy values agree.The droplets quenched before nucleation solidify into metastable supersaturated solid solution and have large undercooling.The formation of the metastable structure in the droplets has been verified metallographically and by calculations based on a thermodynamic model.     

Application of the Functional Equivalence Theory in Movie Subtitle Translation—Exemplified by Three Billboards Outside Ebbing,Missouri

In recent years,foreign films have been introduced into China,which have a tremendous impact on people’s social life.As a major tool for obtaining information and enjoying entertainment,film subtitle translation is becoming increasingly important.Meanwhile,the English level and appreciation ability of domestic audience is continuously improving with the change of the times,and their demand and requirement for subtitle translation are also improving.Nowadays,there are still many immature parts in sub?title translation,and the theory in China is relatively deficient.Therefore,the subtitle translation level of film needs to be rose.The translator constantly improves the translation ability by using translation theories and skills.Based on the theory of functional equiv?alence,this thesis translates the subtitle of the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing,Missouri.Firstly,this paper briefly introduces the development of the film subtitle translation and the film.Secondly,it introduces the translation theories and skills applied in translation practice,making a particular analysis in combination with specific practical cases.Finally,the translator makes a sum?mary for the translation process.The translator hopes that through the translation practice,some attempts can be made for future re?search in subtitle translation.     

Idiom and Its Cultural Differences between China and the West

The article mainly focuses on Chinese and English idioms and their cultural differences. Idioms exist in both Chinese and English, and they have been used frequently for a long time. Furthermore, idioms are fixed phrases extracted from language over long time of usage. Although they are formed in short phrases, for example idioms known as "成语" in Chinese, which has only have four or eight letters, their meanings are exuberant and connotative. Therefore, the analysis of the idiom’s usage and the cultural differences it reflects is significant to every language learner and translator.     

Study on the Translation of Puns in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from the Perspective of the Functional Equivalence Theory

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a world-famous masterpiece in children’s literature.The adventure stories in the novel deeply attract the child readers in different countries in the world.The use of puns in the work adds to its aesthetic value.In China,many scholars have translated it.The research topic is the application of Nida’s theory of functional equivalence in the pun translation in children’s literature work Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the degree of equivalence in Wu Juntao’s translation.The person who does the research has read the original work and the translator Wu Juntao’s translation of this book,analyzed the translation of puns in the book,read the relevant journal articles on the theory of functional equivalence and thought about the academic views in them.On the basis of text reading,translation analysis and reference analysis,the following conclusion has been made:According to the basic points in the theory,in the work,Wu Juntao’s translation of the puns has basically achieved the equivalence between the original text and the target text in readers’responses,language style and language meaning.

On Chinese Translation Methods of English Pun

English pun is the humorous of a word to suggest different meanings or applications or of words having the same or nearly the same sound but different meanings. Due to the great discrepancy between English and Chinese in terms of pronunciation, form, sentence structure and ways of expression, the translation of pun into Chinese has been generally thought as untranslatable. Hence, the translator faces great challenges in its Chinese translation. However, puns are not necessarily untranslatable. Six methods are usually employed in English puns’ translation into Chinese.     

Literal Translation and Free Translation

Translation means the conversion of an expression into another language. To say plainly,It is an art to reproduce the exact idea of the author by means of a language different from the original.So the original thought of the expression must be kept as exactly as possible. The duty of the translator is simply to change the vocabulary not the thought. Literal translation and free translation are two essential ways in translation. Literal translation refers to an adequate representation of the original in sequence of vocabulary, in grammatical structure and rhetorical device. Free translation is also called liberal translation, which does not adhere strictly to the form or word order of the original. Which one is preferable？ We can hardly say. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.Argument between them has been more than 80 years. What on earth is the argument？ What do they focus on？ The argument brings great effect to us, so I want to find some answers to it.
