Summary The objectives of this study were to examine (1) the relative effectiveness of closed-circuit television for classroom teaching compared to conventional teaching and (2) the acceptability of closed-circuit television teaching to the students. A course was offered both by closed-circuit television and by conventional teaching. Students within each group were asked to rate the course and other related concepts. In addition, their examination grades were obtained. No differences were found with respect to performance. The students taught via television rated the course and their instructors relatively lower than those who received conventional instruction. Howard M. Bobren is assistant to the director, Institute of Communications Research and Sheldon L. Siegel is research assistant, College of Education, both at the University of Illinois.  相似文献

This paper describes an exploratory study designed to investigate the relation between selected teacher perceptions past research has shown to be shared by highly effective teachers, and teacher attitudes toward the implementation of new instructional practices. Data were gathered through a questionnaire administered to 120 elementary and secondary school teachers immediately following a one-day taff development program on mastery learning instructional strategies. Results showed that measures of teacher efficacy, teaching affect, and teaching self-concept were significantly related to teachers' attitudes regarding the congruence, difficulty of use, and importance of the recommended practices. Implications for instructional improvement efforts are discussed.  相似文献

Summary and conclusions Semantic Differential data were obtained from 234 ninth graders who had just completed an algebra course which included a televised lecture presenting a new approach to the subject matter, and from 269 pupils who had had algebra taught in the usual way.  相似文献

Expatriate science teachers are being asked with increasing frequency to participate in science classroom instructional activities in a large number of developing nations. The peculiar nature of social problems in many of these countries calls for a broader definition of curricular activities in the science classroom. This report is based on a study that assessed the influence of subsidiary learning activities in a physiology class on attitudes toward contraceptives. Students enrolled in a physiology course were exposed to various subsidiary learning activities through reading assignments, group projects and group discussion sessions. A pre- and posttest evaluation of changes in attitudes toward contraceptives was found to be statistically significant. A significantly larger proportion of students possessed positive attitudes toward contraceptives at the end of the semester's learning activities than at the beginning.  相似文献

This study examined technical and nontechnical employee attitudes toward participation in training. A survey was administered to 337 self‐identified technical and nontechnical university employees. Our findings are as follows: (a) most employees prefer training that is less than 2 hours in length, (b) employees do not want training outside their regular shift, (c) employees strongly prefer hands‐on training, and (d) less than half were encouraged by their supervisor to apply what was learned in nontechnical training to their job.  相似文献

Conclusion In this article an empirical approach to instructional television research has been defined. This approach does not seek to replace theoretical studies but seeks rather to establish, within those institutions using instructional television, a body of knowledge based on empirical generalizations. Many authors have suggested the importance of defining objectives in assessing instruction, but their ideas filter only very slowly through educational systems. Part of this resistance may be traced to the complete revision of assessment instruments required by instruction by objectives, or standards. However, by asking the question, What happens during instruction? it may be possible to devise instructionally useful measures. Similarly, this question presents teaching, research, and production staff with a problem they may be eager to define and solve.  相似文献

The Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory (MTAI), the Edwards Personal Preferences Schedule (EPPS), and the Vocational Preferences Inventory (VPI) were administered to 183 undergraduate students enrolled in teacher education courses. The MTAI was compared with each of the two personality instruments by canonical analysis. The MTAI shared 20% of its variance with the EPPS and 17% with the VPI. It was concluded that teachers' attitudes are partially determined by measurable personality variables.  相似文献
