An in‐depth investigation of the relationship between media effectiveness, essentiality, and amount of study was presented. Overall, effectiveness explains 48% of the variation in the amount of study. Students who found the media more effective studied the media more. Those media that were more effective were studied more. The relationship between effectiveness and amount of study is different for each medium. This is because media differ in their degree of ‘essentiality‐versus‐optionality’. Thus, the amount of study depends on a combination of effectiveness and essentiality. The relationship between effectiveness, essentiality, and amount of study is different for each student. This is because students differ in their ‘sensitivities’—their sensitivity to effectiveness and to essentiality. The final equation used effectiveness, essentiality, and sensitivity to explain 74% of the variation in the amount of study. The analysis was informed by a mathematical model.  相似文献

The paper discusses three aspects central to the 10 year-old process of design, development and use of E-slate, a construction kit for educational software. These are: (1) the design of computational media for user empowerment, (2) the socially-grounded approach to the building of user communities and (3) the issue of long-term sustainability as crucial for the component movement to progress, but also as constituting its real strength in relation to standalone technologies for computational media. An analysis of E-slate's features, the process and products of user community constructions with E-slate and the organizational aspects of maintaining on-going development and research is provided. We conclude that the design, development and user-support of empowering computational media should be viewed as a continuing effort to build social change architectures, rather than single R&D projects. We suggest that this can only be done through the development and preservation of hybrid communities across organizations.  相似文献

Ontario’s new Character Development Initiative is analyzed to determine whether it can be characterized as political spectacle. Examination of official policy texts, media reports, speeches, web pages, webcasts, and events at the Character Development Symposium suggests that the Initiative contains many elements of political spectacle; however, the policy has received little coverage in traditional media. Media coverage is considered as an essential component of political spectacles. In this case, media coverage is limited to digital media produced by the Ontario government itself. This raises questions about the implications of new media forms for the theory of political spectacle. I demonstrate that digital media offer new means for bringing political spectacles to citizens and enable governments to have greater control over their content. Since political spectacles facilitated by traditional media promote the status quo and make critical analysis of public policy difficult, government‐produced digital media might put democracy at even greater risk. Alternatively, government websites post texts that can be analyzed by citizens and used to promote democracy in education. I conclude that the strategic use of language and illusions of democracy, whether brought to citizens through digital or traditional media, are essential components of political spectacle.  相似文献

This research examined the effect of visual media on attitude formation and attitude change in nursing education from 1960 through 1982. Meta-analysis was used to obtain a quantitative index of effect. Screening of over 700 sources resulted in 70 potentially useful studies. Analysis of these studies, according to the established criteria, yielded a final pool of 16 studies. An estimate of the effect magnitude was calculated for each study, then averaged to determine the overall effect size index. Visual media had an effect size of 1.27 standard deviations —a large effect. In addition, several studies had assessed attitude retention; there was an effect size gain of.34 standard deviations. A number of conclusions may be drawn pertaining to the effect of visual media on attitude change and attitude change retention and the theoretical frameworks around which to design instruction, particularly visual media.  相似文献

Conclusions A fundamental assumption of the research presented above was that attitude change is an important concern of the educator, and that if attitudes are important, information on how attitudes might be formed or changed with media is needed. Four studies were conducted to examine the use of media to deliver persuasive messages. The results of the four studies presented in this article tended to support the following conclusions. First, attitudes toward educationally relevant topics, such as conservation, smoking, and disabled persons, can be modified by using persuasive messages delivered by media. Next, it appeared that some types of media may be more effective than others at delivering information designed to change attitudes. Motion pictures seem to be more effective than slides. There also seems to be sufficient evidence to warrant further investigation into the relationship between the content of persuasive messages, the media used to deliver those messages, and the learning styles of the target audience. In short, attitudes can be modified by mediated messages, and the degree of modification may be related to the characteristics of the students who view the message and to the way the message is mediated.  相似文献

语言功能的半球一侧化是近一个半世纪以来科学研究的重要问题。近10多年来,运用fMRI、PET以及ERPs等脑功能成像手段,研究者发现语言功能的半球优势模式具有时间、空间的特异性和任务的相关性;它在个体发展的早期就已经显现,任务难度、生理成熟是影响一侧化年龄发展模式的重要中介因素;材料的语言属性而非物理特性可能是影响激活侧化的关键因素,语言功能的一侧化与大脑结构不对称性密切相关。这些结果大大丰富了人们对语言功能一侧化现象的认识,同时表明,运用脑功能成像技术,研究者已经开始触及到语言一侧化的核心问题,即其一侧化的内在认知与神经机制问题。  相似文献

This article describes the development and implementation of a curriculum model that seeks to integrate the study of different types of text in a coherent and meaningful way. An explanation of the rationale behind the model is given and supported by exemplar tasks designed by teachers working within the context of an integrated English, media and drama curriculum. 利用流体力学开源代码OpenFOAM验证了单圆柱体周围的流体特性(包括流型和阻力),表明Open-FOAM能够用于模拟低Re数流,并发现Shaw的解析解是斯托克斯悖论的一种解.通过对纤维滤料进行试验以及对Tronville-Rivers二维纤维随机分布滤料新模型的阻力特性进行数值模拟,发现Kuwabara模型比Hap-pel模型更能精确预测纤维滤料的阻力,而且试验阻力值介于纤维表面为无滑移和全滑移边界条件下的数值模拟值之间.  相似文献

Many educators in the 21st century utilize social media platforms to enrich professional learning networks (PLNs). PLNs are uniquely personalized networks that can support participatory and continuous learning. Social media services can mediate professional engagements with a wide variety of people, spaces and tools that might not otherwise be available. Teachers who once might have had access to only a handful of colleagues can now employ Facebook, Twitter and other mediums to learn from peers across the globe at any time. However, educators face numerous challenges building and enhancing their PLNs for professional growth. To support educators in the development of their PLNs, we present a framework for PLN enrichment. Rooted in our research and experiences with PLNs, this flexible framework is designed to help educators reflect upon how they might continuously improve their PLN experiences and outcomes.  相似文献

The Australian media’s interest in education, as in many Anglophone countries, is frequently dominated by concerns about boys in schools. In 2002, in a country region of the Australian State of Queensland, this concern was evident in a debate on the merits of single sex schooling that took place in a small local newspaper. The debate was fuelled by the inclusion in this newspaper of an advertising brochure for an elite private girls’ school. The advertisement utilized the current concerns about boys in schools to advocate the benefits of girls’ only schools. Drawing on research that suggests that boys are a problem in school, and utilising a peculiar mix of liberal feminism alongside a neo‐liberal class politics, it implicitly denigrated the education provided by government co‐educational schools. The local government high and primary school principals, incensed at this advertisement, contacted the paper to refute many of its claims and assumptions and to assert the benefits, to both boys and girls, of their particular schools. A letters to the editor debate then followed an article representing these government school principals’ views. These letters were from two private school principals. This country newspaper thus became a medium through which various school principals engaged with the current boys’ debate, and research associated with it, in order to market their schools. This paper examines this particular newspaper debate and argues that, in the absence of nuanced, research based, and thoughtful policy responses to gender issues, many school policies on gender are being shaped through and by the media in ways that elide the complexities of the issues involved.  相似文献

媒介素养是21世纪公民必备的素养之一,其宗旨在于培养理性的媒介公民。科学的媒介素养测评是界定、评估、推进公民媒介素养教育的重要基础和必要条件。文章聚焦公民媒介素养测评框架建构问题,运用综合性文献研究法,批判性地分析了国内外媒介素养测评框架研究现状,包括讨论了国外媒介素养测评框架建构的“能力、过程、目标”三大研究导向,归整了国内媒介素养测评指标体系、框架研究类型和群体媒介素养测评研究态势。在此基础上,文章指出,公民媒介素养测评框架建构应注重从以下五个维度展开理论建模和实证研究:认识媒介素养范式变迁的要义;理解元框架设计的意义内涵;回应全媒体时代媒介生态诉求;超越方法单一的研究偏向;凸显本土考量的文化适应性,从而构建“契合时代,立足本土,融通世界,表达中国”的公民媒介素养测评框架。这种测评框架是“元框架”意义的框架,能从根本上体现框架建构的学科性、时代性、本土性、普适性和可操作性。  相似文献

This research explores the impact of Taiwan's university multiple-channel entrance policy on student learning outcomes, using quantitative research to look for differences in the learning experiences of third-year students who were admitted via different methods (examination and placement, application for admission, recommendation and selection, and gifted aptitude selection) and who were at different types of institutions (public universities, public vocational/technical schools, private universities, and private vocational/technical schools). The source data for this research was a 2005 national survey of third-year university students by the National Taiwan Normal University Center for Educational Research and Evaluation. The data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and found that among students at public universities and vocational/technical schools, those who applied for admission had a better learning experience, while those selected for gifted aptitude had a poorer learning experience. Among students at private schools, those admitted through examination and placement or application for admission had a significantly better learning experience than students admitted through selection. Overall, the learning experience of screened students was generally poor, so it is worth considering a review of this admission method.  相似文献

An exploratory study was conducted to answer the following questions: What are older adults' perceptions of social media? What educational strategies can facilitate their learning of social media? A thematic map was developed to illustrate changing perceptions from the initial unanimous, strong negative to the more positive but cautious and to the eventual willingness to actually contribute content. Privacy was the primary concern and key perceptual barrier to adoption. Effective educational strategies were developed to overcome privacy concerns, including: 1) introducing the concepts before introducing the functions; 2) responding to privacy concerns; and 3) making social media personally relevant.  相似文献
