Predicting Freshman Grade‐Point Average from Test Scores: Effects of Variation Within and Between High Schools

Most studies predicting college performance from high‐school grade point average (HSGPA) and college admissions test scores use single‐level regression models that conflate relationships within and between high schools. Because grading standards vary among high schools, these relationships are likely to differ within and between schools. We used two‐level regression models to predict freshman grade point average from HSGPA and scores on both college admissions and state tests. When HSGPA and scores are considered together, HSGPA predicts more strongly within high schools than between, as expected in the light of variations in grading standards. In contrast, test scores, particularly mathematics scores, predict more strongly between schools than within. Within‐school variation in mathematics scores has no net predictive value, but between‐school variation is substantially predictive. Whereas other studies have shown that adding test scores to HSGPA yields only a minor improvement in aggregate prediction, our findings suggest that a potentially more important effect of admissions tests is statistical moderation, that is, partially offsetting differences in grading standards across high schools.

分析了高师学生化学实验及考评的现状,阐述了高师化学实验评价的新理念与流程.由于高师化学实验的考评理念及方法的滞后,既影响高师化学专业学生掌握化学实验知识,形成良好实验技能和实验习惯,也不利于高师学生掌握新的高中化学课程所倡导的评价理念与方法;因此,可借鉴高中化学新课程的评价理念考评高师学生的化学实验.     

基于胜任“新课改”高校体育教师信息素养的构建

高校体育教师的信息素养是高校体育教师履行岗位职责,胜任体育教学工作所必须具有的基本要求．为了使高校体育教师能够胜任“新课改”教育培养目标的需求,通过对高校体育教师目前信息素养的现状进行分析,并针对高校体育教师信息素养存在的问题提出有效的改进措施．     

Relational‐Cultural Theory–Based Interventions With LGBTQ College Students

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community members can encounter daily challenges living in a heterosexist society, including the college milieu. The authors apply the tenets of relational‐cultural theory (RCT) to LGBTQ college students. Furthermore, a case study is included to highlight ways counselors can infuse RCT strategies when working with this population.     

Using State Assessments for Predicting Student Success in Dual‐Enrollment College Classes

Scores on state standards‐based assessments are readily available and may be an appropriate alternative to traditional placement tests for assigning or accepting students into particular courses. Many community colleges do not require test scores for admissions purposes but do require some kind of placement scores for first‐year English and math courses. In this study, we examine the efficacy of using the reading and math portions of the Kansas State Assessment (KSA) for predicting the success of high school students taking College Algebra and College English I at a Kansas community college. Results showed that in this sample KSA scores predicted as well or better than more traditional placement tests and with no extra cost to the institution.     

基于高职工作过程课程设计探索与研究——以天津城市职业学院电脑艺术设计专业课程为例

电脑艺术设计专业课程设计是基于平面设计工作过程的程序进行设计,职业教育首先必须要进行职业准入制的教育,职业岗位的体验与认知让新入学的学生开始不断地注入职业的理念,强化职业技能的认知。其次才能进入职业教育技术阶段,再次与企业合作把学到的技能应用到实际项目中去,使学生逐步进入职场,成为一个职业人,是高等职业教育的目标。     

Trauma‐Informed Response in the Age of Title IX: Considerations for College Counselors Working With Survivors of Power‐Based Personal Violence

Intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and stalking are pervasive in the United States, and college women are disproportionately affected by this power‐based personal violence (PBPV). Title IX mandates that colleges and universities offer support services to trauma survivors, and college counselors should be prepared to meet this need. Therefore, this article serves to explore a diverse assortment of trauma‐informed counseling techniques, based in feminist theory, for college counselors working with PBPV survivors.     

College Students With High‐Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder: Best Practices for Successful Transition to the World of Work

The transition from college to work is a challenging time for students with autism spectrum disorder. College counselors who understand the challenges students face adjusting to the world of work can position themselves to be change agents for this population. This article illuminates the challenges facing these students to help close the knowledge gap of their career development trajectory. Strategies and best practices to guide these students through successful transition to the world of work are provided.
