Simulation of Vapor Flows Between Two Closed Surfaces of Evaporation and Condensation at High Vacuum

The steady multi-component vapor flows between two closed surfaces of evaporation and condensation are investigated numerically by the nonlinear Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook equation.The mathematical model will make it possible to determine the profiles of the process variables between two surfaces of evaporation and condensation if the conditions of evaporation and condensation surfaces are taken into consideration.It is used to simulate the vapor behaviors of the pure dibutylphthalate and the ethylhexyl phthalate-ethylhexyl sebacate mixture.The effects of the liquid composition of the evaporaton surface,the evaporation temperature ,the condensation temperature and the distance between evaporation and condensation surfaces on the evaporation efficiency and separation factor are discussed.

Optimal approximate merging of a pair of Bézier curves with G2-continuity

We present a novel approach for dealing with optimal approximate merging of two adjacent Bezier eurves with G^2-continuity. Instead of moving the control points, we minimize the distance between the original curves and the merged curve by taking advantage of matrix representation of Bezier curve＇s discrete structure, where the approximation error is measured by L2-norm. We use geometric information about the curves to generate the merged curve, and the approximation error is smaller. We can obtain control points of the merged curve regardless of the degrees of the two original curves. We also discuss the merged curve with point constraints. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithms.

A Comparative Study on the Two English Versions of Lu Xun’s Stories

The two English versions of Lu Xun’s stories, translated by Julia Lovell and the Rangs, are to be studied from the ecotranslatological perspective. A comparative study of the two English versions is made to figure out how the two translators linguistically and culturally make adaptive selections in the process of translation of Lu Xun’s stories—In other words, how the eco-environment has greatly influenced the two translators’ decisions to make adaptations and choices in linguistic and cultural aspects.The thesis discovers that the eco-environment has greatly influenced the process of translating Lu Xun’s stories into English and eco-translatology is feasible to analyze the two translations, that both the Yangs and Lovell have offered successful translations by making adaptive selections and selective transformations. Therefore, neither of the two translations is superior or inferior to one another in different translational eco- environments. Hopefully, the thesis may enrich current researches on the Yang’s and Lovell’s translations and may be useful for the further study of applying eco-translatology to studies on other translators and their works.

Estimation of Shallow S-Wave Velocity Structure of Two Practical Sites from Microtremors Array Observation in Tangshan Area

Microtremors array observation for estimating S-wave velocity structure from phase velocities of Rayleigh and Love wave on two practical sites in Tangshan area by a China-US joint group are researched.The phase velocities of Rayleigh wave are estimated from vertical component records and those of Love wave are estimated from three-component records of microtremors array using modified spatial auto-correlation method.Haskell matrix method is used in calculating Rayleigh and Love wave phase velocities,and the shallow S-wave velocity structure of two practical sites are estimated by means of a hybrid approach of Genetic Algorithm and Simplex.The results are compared with the PS logging data of the two sites,showing it is feasible to estimate the shallow S-wave velocity structure of practical site from the observation of microtremor array.

Vapor Pressures of Di-n-Butyl Phthalate and Di-iso-ButylHexahydrophthalate at Reduced Pressures

In this paper the measured values of the vapor pressures by ebulliometer method of two important maleic anhydride recovery solvents, di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and di-iso-butyl hexahydrophthalate (DIBE),between 0. 63-17. 79 kPa and 0. 49-30. 95 kPa,are reported respectively. A comparison of the data of DBP with the published data has been made, which shows good consistency. For the convenient use of these vapor pressures, Cragoe equation, Antoine equation and Kirchhoff equation are selected to correlate them. The correlating results show that Antoine equation is the best one of the three equations to fit for the vapor pressures of the two solvents. According to Clausius-Clapeyron equation, the linear relationship between natural logarithm of pressure and reciprocal of temperature is used to calculate the molar latent heats of evaporation of the two organic solvents. The molar latent heats of evaporation of DBP and DIBE are 75.1 kJ/mol and 67.7 kJ/mol, respectively.

Optimal constrained multi-degree reduction of Bézier curves with explicit expressions based on divide and conquer

We decompose the problem of the optimal multi-degree reduction of Bezier curves with comers constraint into two simpler subproblems, namely making high order interpolations at the two endpoints without degree reduction, and doing optimal degree reduction without making high order interpolations at the two endpoints. Further, we convert the second subproblem into multi-degree reduction of Jacobi polynomials. Then, we can easily derive the optimal solution using orthonormality of Jacobi polynomials and the least square method of unequally accurate measurement. This method of ＇divide and conquer＇ has several advantages including maintaining high continuity at the two endpoints of the curve, doing multi-degree reduction only once, using explicit approximation expressions, estimating error in advance, low time cost, and high precision. More importantly, it is not only deduced simply and directly, but also can be easily extended to the degree reduction of surfaces. Finally, we present two examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm.
