Refocusing,Rebalancing, and Refining (R3):

At Michigan State University, long-range planning has existed for many years. Its current planning effort, Refocusing, Rebalancing, and Refining (R³) has been implemented effectively within the University Libraries with significant benefits. First, the staff became better informed about library funding which resulted in better and more realistic program proposals. Second, the staff are moving more effectively into the strategic planning process being implemented by the new director. Third, R³ has provided the Libraries with an effective platform from which to emphasize with University administrators the important role played by the Libraries in all academic enterprises. And finally, staff participation in the process provided them with a real sense of empowerment.

四月初一　晴近来无时不以沪友为念 ,无论作事、酬应、散步、休息 ,鲜能去怀。日前岳兄之忠告 ,昨午公权之斥责以及七、九两儿及石贵之禀陈 ,俱望余保重身心 ,努力行务 ,意重情长 ,能无感动。即吾至友 ,亲睹余况亦必加以谅解 ,助我以力也。拟从今日起 ,振起精神 ,积极服务以了残年 ,以慰众望。昨闻公权言 ,中共总部将由延安迁至清江浦 ,因念余弟尚留故乡 ,消息隔绝 ,生活维艰 ,至感不安。意欲派人往视而苦于无门 ,因询岳军、公权两兄可否托周君恩来作书介绍 ,以便通行。淬廉谓 ,可请伉乃如君作介。岳、权两兄亦谓 ,由私友如伉君者介绍较为相…     

一九四六年周作民日记(一)

周作民(1884—1955),江苏淮安人。原名维新。早年留学日本。1917年起担任金城银行总经理。该行为著名的“北四行”之一,经济实力雄厚,社会知名度极高。1936年金城银行总行从天津迁来上海。太平洋战争爆发后,周作民在香港被日军拘捕,旋被押回上海,逼迫其出任伪职,但周巧妙周旋,未曾落水。全国解放后,他又从香港回到上海,担任“北五行”的董事长和统一后的公私合营银行联合董事会副董事长。现存周作民日记一册(1945年6月—1946年7月),反映了抗战结束后一段时间内,上海社会尤其是金融界的情形,对周作民被蒙上所谓“汉奸嫌疑”的经过也有详细记…

一九四六年周作民日记(二)

二月初一日 晴 昨夜梦在沪与亲友欢聚,醒来至感不适,感慨万端.至牙医处涂药,据称创口已无虞,星二晨九时再往诊.此后三日因旧年休假也.到行作致芳远书(于慧附书)、孝若书(内附景虞书).理发.吴养泉、严敬斋两兄来访,晤叙离愫.归寓午餐.警察局徐局长中齐来访,历言其办事困难.

六月初一日　晴访岳军晤谈。到行略询行兄 ,亟须续派副经理助之。文山颇努力。访寄梅、崇年 ,都不值。归寓午餐。餐后小憩。访淬廉畅谈至六时 ,保兄以岳兄在彼邀往共餐 ,却之不可 ,遂与淬兄同赴。九时归。与淬兄续谈 ,涤生亦来。十一时客去就寝。决定派石贵明晨赴沪 ,与新之、仲梅晤洽事件。初二日　晴　星期　热访达铨、文山均不值。淬廉偕汤象龙君来访。汤湘谭人 ,清华出身 ,留学美国 ,研究经济史 ,在孟和处调查研究十馀年 ,四年前入行办理西北垦植协进社事 ,成绩不佳 ,现已结束。同至淬兄处午餐 ,餐后归寓小憩。作致毅兄书。访岳军晤谈西…     

Proposed development of resource sharing networks (UNISIST,NATIS, ALBIS)

A questionnaire survey of researchers engaged in seven scientific disciplines was conducted to identify preferred information channels and to determine interdiscipline variations in communication behaviour of Croatian scientists. The article also addresses the problem of the foreign language barrier and the visibility of Croatian science at an international level.

The findings indicate that journal articles with their accompanying lists of references are the most important source of information in all the disciplines surveyed, while on-line searching was ranged rather low.

Differences between pure, applied and social disciplines were identified in the domain of informal communication and in the publishing of the research results. Contacts with colleagues outside one’s organization appeared to be an important element in information retrieval, while informal dissemination of information is mostly performed internally. Except for physicists, participation in international scientific communication is rather unsatisfactory.
