HISTORIC TOWN OF HUANGYAO

The historic town of Huangyao is located in the eastern part of southwest Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region at the lower stream of the Lijiang River. The town took shape in 968 and thrived during the 17th century.

The First China Ningxia International Expo on Culture, Arts and Tourism was held in September, 2009 in Yinchuan, capital city of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Seniorofficials from the Chinese People＇s Political Consultative Conference, the Ministry of Culture, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV, the State Administration of Tourism, the Chinese People＇s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, as well as diplomatic envoys from embassies in Beijing and delegations from various provinces and municipalities attended the expo＇s opening ceremony.     

Europalia.China Arts Festival to Be Opened Soon

Apress conference was recently held in Beijing, briefing the media on the upcoming Europalia.China, a grand arts gala that will last for half a year in Belgium. Vice Chinese Cultural Minister Madame Zhao Shaohua, Belgian Ambassador H.E. Patrick Nijs, senior officials from both China and Belgium as well as journalists from some 70 media organizations attended this press conference co-hosted by the Ministn/of Culture of China and the Belgian Embassy in Beijing.     

Africa Makes a Splash in Beijing

In conjunction with Beijing Summit of China-Africa Cooperation Forum, two exhibitions were presented in the National Museum of China in early November, 2006, one of coins and stamps from 48 African countries and the other of African handicrafts, to showcase African landscapesand places of historical interest and reviewing its relations with China. In addition, stamps incelebration of the historic summit were released by China Post. State Councilor Madam Chen Zhili cut ribbons to open the two exhibitions and unveiled the model of commemorative stamps. Vice Cultural Minister Madam Meng Xiaosi, Assistant Foreign Minister Mr. Li Hui and Director-General of China Post Mr. Liu Andong spoke at the opening ceremony. Jewelry Design Competition Highlights Fashion and Creativity

The 4th China Jewelry Design Competition was concluded In Beijing last November. The competition, with the theme of ＂Colorful Time： Orlginality China＂, was jointly organized by China Gem and Jade Stone Association, the Jewelry and Jade Stone Ornaments Administration Center of the Ministry of Land and Resources and CHJ Jewelry Co, Lid CPPCC Vice Chairman Li Guixian, Land and Resources Minister Sun Wensheng as well as celebrities and designers from jewelry, fashion and entertainment circles attended the prize-granting ceremony.     

Brick Carving of Linxia; ART ON THE BLADE

Linxia, a Hui autonomous prefecture in northwest Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is known for its distinctive folksinging called ＂flower＂. This indigenous music form evolved from the combination of folk melodies of ancient Qiang and Han ethnic groups and developed into a mature singing expression with the contribution by many other ethnic minorities. While ＂flower＂ enjoys popularity in northwest China, Linxia attracts more tourists and heritage conservationists alike with the appealing art of brick carving -- now included on the first List of National-level Intangible Cultural Heritage.     

Culture Tour Links Hearts of Chinese People Across the Taiwan Straits

From July 2 to 12, 2006, ＂Common Feelings Link Chinese People Across the Taiwan Straits＂, a culture tour co-sponsored by the Chinese Friendship Association through Culture and Henan Provincial Government, took place in the central province of Henan. Senior officials including Chinese Vice Minister of Culture Madam Meng Xiaosi and Vice Governor of Henan Province Madam Wang Jumei attended the event together with some 150 distinguished guests from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland.     

Long Song： bound of Nature in the Mongolian Grasslands

On November 25, 2005,“long song” was proclaimed by UNESCO as one of the ＂Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity＂. ＂Long song＂, or called ＂urtiin duu＂ in the Mongolian language, is one of the most distinct and honored form of music in Mongolian culture. It is chiefly performed in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, the State of Mongolia as well as the Russian Republic of Buryat.     

CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION CALLS FOR GREATER PUBLIC AWARENESS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

A 36-person delegation from the US President＇s Committee on the Arts and the Humanity paid an official visit to China from June 5 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese Cultural Ministry. On June 10, the delegation attended a seminar on the conservation of world heritage sites in Suitcase House in Commune by the Great Wall,a resort hotel in the suburb of Beijing.At the seminar Shan Jixiang,Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China,delivered a presentation on the trends of cultural heritage conservation in China as wall as China-US exchange and cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation.     

Love Goes Beyond National Boundary——2009 French Week Series Launched in Beijing

On the evening of March 14, the 2009 French Week Series was officially launched in the Grand Millennium Hotel Beijing, Dilotomatic envoys from more than 50 embassies, representatives from French language institutions and associations in Beijing and leaders from cultural exchange organizations attended this event hosted by French Alliance in Beijing. Grand Canyon of Nu River

Nu River （Angry River in Mandarin） rises from the south slope of Tang＇gula Mountain in northwest Qinghai Province.Tibetan people dwelling on the river＇s upper stream call it ＂Naqu＂, meaning ＂river of black water＂. Its name changes into ＂Nu Jiang＂ after it flows into Yunnan Province from Tibet Autonomous Region. The river then stretches through Myanmar and runs into the Indian Ocean and the section outside China is called ＂Salween＂. Within Yunnan Province, Nu River roars between Gaoligong Mountain and Bilo Snow Mountain which stand at an altitude of 4,000 to 5,000 meters. While the river bed is only 800 meters above the sea level, the river valley is 3,000 to 4,000 meters lower than mountain peaks,
