Study on the Needs Analysis of Non-English Majors for English Learning——A Case Study on Dongchang College of Liaocheng University

Needs analysis is an important link in the process of course designs,and it is the important basis for teachers to organize teaching and evaluate teaching results.Based on the theory of needs analysis,taking questionnaire method,choosing 100 non-English majors of Dongchang College of Liaocheng University as research objects,the thesis investigates the current situation of English learning and teaching.

An Analysis on the Cultural Factors that Affect People’s Perceptions:A Case Study

The intention of this present paper is to explore the relationship between culture and perception and the cultural factors that affect people’s perceptions from different cultural backgrounds. This study is based on a case, which is a news report about the cultural conflict between an old Chinese father and her daughter who has been living in Canada for eight years. Detailed information has been acquired by the author using relative books, journals as well as her own understanding and interpretation. It is concluded that to be aware of the cultural factors is of great importance to understand why people from different cultures have quite different perceptions toward the same thing, which can help to reduce the conflicts and misunderstandings in intercultural communication.     

A Typical Victim of the Patriarchal Society—An Analysis on the Female Character in Death in the Woods

Death in the Woods is one of the famous novels of Sherwood Anderson, who is a distinguished writer in America, and now it still wins great popularity in the whole world. In this novel, the author depicts the protagonist Mrs. Grimes' miserable life incisively. This paper endeavors to analyze the female character in the patriarchal society from the following two perspectives—social background and marriage life, and naturally comes to the conclusion that the protagonist Mrs. Grimes finally died because of the oppression of the patriarchal society.

Study Abroad as Self-Development: An Analysis of International Students’ Experience in China and France

This article explores the real life experience of international students’ and the importance of study abroad for their personal and professional development. The empirical data drawn upon for this article came from the author’s master’s research, with field research conducted in the 2010/2011 academic year. It begins with the study focus and research objectives and reviews the relevant theoretical literature and the methodology adopted in the research. In the third section, data from interviews with 16 international students in Capital University (pseudonym, China) and Romance University (pseudonym, France) are analyzed following in chronological order the experiences of their sojourn in their host country. The final section of the article sums up the results of the research and points out the complexity of the question of international student mobility and different perspectives that can be adopted in seeking to understand and interpret this phenomenon.
