应用型本科高校大学数学分层次教学改革探讨

随着应用型本科高校招生规模不断扩大,同一班级学生数学水平差距越发明显,因此,继续实行同班级或同专业上课必然会在不同程度上影响和制约学生学习数学的积极性,教学质量也很难提高,因此,大学数学实行分层次教学是新形势发展的需要,也是深化教学改革的必由之路,但在实践中如何具体实行分层次教学改革提高大学数学教学质量值得探讨。     

THE CONFLICTING REQUIREMENTS OF TEACHING,RESEARCH, AND MANAGEMENT IN UNIVERSITIES

The activities of teaching staff members in universities have changed considerably over the last few years. The interests of the latter in some of these activities have also changed. This article analyzes the difficulties facing university teachers in their efforts to meet the demands made on them in modern universities. The proportional increase in resources means that teachers tend to devote them‐selves to activities that are more productive from a professional or a personal point of view while neglecting others. Universities should make changes in their organization and everyday functioning which would permit a more rational division of the necessary tasks. In addition, university administrations should increase the resources available to their universities in order to bring about such changes.     

EVALUATING TEACHING AND ASSESSING TEACHERS IN UNIVERSITIES

The evaluation of teaching and the assessment of teachers are similar activities with very different aims. Both are feasible, once we abandon the idea that they have to be based on explicit criteria of good teaching. This point is argued both on the basis of experience with established practice in higher education and through a comparison with similar practices in other professions. The latter leads to the construction of a model which uses students, peers, self and superiors in a way that allows an active role to the person assessed. Finally, attention is drawn to the need for an educational development unit to provide training, help and counselling as an adjunct to assessment.

Teaching in context can be defined as teaching a mathematical idea or process by using a problem, situation, or data to enhance the teaching and learning process. The same problem or situation may be used many times, at different mathematical levels to teach different objectives. A common misconception exists that assigning/teaching applications is teaching in context. While both use problems, the difference is in timing, in purpose, and in student outcome. In this article, one problem situation is explored thoroughly at different levels of understanding and other ideas are suggested for classroom explorations.

"小群体教学"在普通高校公共篮球课中试验研究

随着篮球选项课的开展,传统的教学方法不能考虑到大学生篮球技术的个体差异,为了提高教学效果,对安徽理工大学04级篮球选项课的80名男生进行教学试验。结果表明:小群体教学效果明显优于传统教学方法。

IMPROVING TEACHING AND LEARNING IN AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES ‐‐ STAFF (FACULTY) DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES AS A FIELD OF CO‐OPERATION BETWEEN EUROPEAN AND AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES

In virtually all the countries of the world, the need for staff‐development programmes for university and other higher education teachers has been recognized. Because the developed countries of Europe and of North America have a head start in the domain, specialists from these countries have frequently been called upon to create and to offer staff‐development programmes in the universities of developing countries. This article discusses the appropriateness of European conceptions of staff‐development for African universities. Concluding that Euro‐centric staff‐developers and pre‐packaged European programmes are not appropriate, that they run the risk of becoming a form of cultural neo‐colonialism, the author considers ways in which European specialists can collaborate with their African colleagues in the structuring of staff‐development programmes that are not only African‐centred but are geared to the real needs of African universities as they are perceived by Africans themselves. If the author's suggestions are accepted, African universities will be able to make use of those aspects of European staff‐development concepts and programmes which have universal value without having to accept European cultural tutelage along with them.     

COUNSELLING AT UNIVERSITIES IN HUNGARY

The article begins by reviewing the main problems facing young people in higher education and the kinds of problems with which they might need help. The approach is psychological and does not include problems of physical health or sociological, socio‐political, or strictly educational problems. For people looking at this age group from a distance, admission to a university or another type of institution of higher education can be seen as a process of arrival. One might think that the uncertainties and stresses from an earlier period of life would have ceased and the oppressive worries of adulthood not yet have begun. In reality, there are many possibilities for crises between the ages of eighteen and twenty‐five. It is one of the main tasks of the provision of psychological counselling in higher education to help adolescents resolve these problems.
