In most of Lawrence’s works, men are described to be handsome, healthy and energetic superficially, yet women may probe into their inner world to know them better. But under the disguise of their attractive appearance, women have found that men are evil, selfish, cold-blooded, hypocritical and degraded. They are criminals to the nature ,women , children and even to themselves. This essay will ana lyze women’s views on the male world in details. 相似文献

Thousands of years ago,the Jews were forced to leave their homeland and began to live an exiled life and gradually melted into other neighboring peoples. However, they were not welcomed by others. For thousands of years,Jews’ \"Bible\" has become a source of literary and artistic creation, but the image of Jews were excluded from the literary and artistic creation, even if there were some occasions, they were but described as autistic Misers or loan shark.Shakespeare is one of the most outstanding writers;he described many people from all walks of life in his works, the Jews, also included.Based on the corpus of Shakespeare’s works,we can see that most adjectives used by Shakespeare to modify the word \"Jew\"are derogative words. Therefore,we can prove that anti-Semitism does exist in Shakespeare’s works. 相似文献

This article examines the participation of women in academic conferences in Israel, a country in which women are under-represented in academia vertically and horizontally. Data were retrieved from announcements of academic conferences in Israel, for one academic year, covering 56 conferences that attracted 997 participations. Participation was measured according to a three-level vertical hierarchy and a three-level horizontal divide that was based on academic discipline. Statistical z-tests and χ2 tests were conducted to compare the proportions of male and female participation. Findings show that male participation in conferences was three times that of women. It was also found that the conferences reflected the social agenda in Israel. It is suggested that women are subjected to two forms of gender marginality, one stemming from the gendered division of labour and the other from the characteristics of the academic conferences that reflect the masculine military social agenda in Israel. 相似文献

The 1930s in England saw the emergence of what has been called an ‘Indigenous Organic Fascism’. This ideology was based on deeply articulated concerns for both the natural environment and a perceived threat to a cultural and spiritual connection to the land. This article reviews these perspectives and explores the ideas of English Fascism for a rural and thereby cultural revival. The article reviews how such environmental concerns became practically expressed in a range of enterprises in outdoor engagement with young people in an attempt to counter the desultory effects of capitalism and urbanisation. Some initiatives were based on summer camps with regular organised activities; others sought to promote deeper, spiritual connections to the natural environment. It is suggested that how such an intolerant and elitist ideology came to see such deep connections to the environment as central to their articulation may be of interest to contemporary practice in outdoor learning and that critical reflection, review and interrogation of some of the terms we use is a way of safeguarding unintentional misinterpretation in uncertain times. 相似文献

In recent years online education doctorates have become more prevalent to accommodate the growing need for distance academic preparation. Due to the newness of these degree programs, there is a dearth of information in the literature on learner perspectives of effective online teaching and learning strategies. The authors of this paper are recent graduates of the online Doctor of Education program in Educational Technology at the University of Florida. They convey their own experiences using supporting research and the three components of the Community of Inquiry (CoI) model (Garrison, Anderson, & Archer, 2000)—social, cognitive, and teaching presence—to examine this online doctoral program. The insights in the paper are intended to promote dialogue on the student perspective and make recommendations to further the initiation and development of online education doctorates. 相似文献

From a life course perspective, this article examines how an intergenerational sample of 20 African-American women in Chicago
describe and make meaning out of their struggles and advancements to make inroads into the principalship. Being born on opposite
sides of the Civil Rights Movement distinguishes markedly how these women perceive their experiences and share their stories
about their journey to become principals. In the face of woefully restricted professional opportunities, African-American
women born prior to the Civil Rights Movement portray their journey as a progression from conceding to “deferred dreams” to
fulfilling their “callings.” In contrast, African-American women born after the Civil Rights Movement view their journey as
one availing them to new horizons of professional opportunity. Their divergent reflections on the salience of race and gender
in the professional realm sheds light on the scholarly contention that the tradition of activist-leadership in African-American
education has waned in the 21st century.

This is a quantitative study of 493 undergraduate engineering majors’ intentions to persist in their engineering program.
Using a multiple analysis of variance analysis, men and women had one common predictor for their intentions to persist, engineering
career outcome expectations. However, the best sociocognitive predictor for men’s persistence was not the same for women.
Men’s persistence in undergraduate engineering was predicted by their abilities to complete the required coursework. Women’s
persistence in undergraduate engineering depended upon their beliefs in getting good grades (A or a B). In brief, women’s
intentions to persist in undergraduate engineering were dependent upon higher academic standards compared to men. 相似文献

English teachers select texts for the edifying qualities they possess: a good poem, novel or film can act both as a window looking out over different lives and as a powerful mirror for reflection. When teachers reflect on their professional practice, however, they generally look to education theory, to research or to action learning strategies. But if great works of literature strengthen a student’s empathetic, critical and reflective capacities, they can do the same for the English teachers who prescribe them. The article does not advocate for a rejection of pedagogical expertise in favour of pure literary criticism, but it does consider that these two aspects of English teaching can be brought together for the purposes of professional reflection and development. Using William Wordsworth’s lyric ‘We Are Seven’ as an example, it aims to illustrate how a close reading of the poem leads naturally and effectively from an analysis of content to more general considerations of why and how we teach. 相似文献

The \"masculinity\" of Hemingway’s works has been the focus of literary critics and mass readers.Whereas,by analyzing the heroines in his novels, this thesis delineates another side of Hemingway. He was critical to the modern women and was appreciative of the ideal women. Moreover,he tried to establish a complementary union with an opposite sex by creating the ideal women. 相似文献
