口语中常用的话语标记语well不仅连接前后语句,还具有语用功能。本文以美剧《生活大爆炸》(第一季)的人物对话为语料,分析话语标记语well的语用功能。研究发现:well在剧中共出现215次,其中约90%作为话语标记语,其使用比例远高于非话语标记语。另外,话语标记语well在剧中有5种语用功能:面子威胁缓和语、延缓标记语、信息短缺标记语、情感标记语、话轮转换标记语。  相似文献

该文以关联理论为理论依据,《了不起的盖茨比》为语料,研究well作为话语标记语的语用功能。在对语料进行仔细的分析,得出well在《了不起的盖茨比》中共有三大功能,即充当连贯标记语,面子威胁缓和标记语,话语理解制约标记语。Well作为连贯标记语的语用功能体现为标记话题转变、标记评论和解释和标记解释;面子威胁缓和标记语的语用功能体现为标记分歧和拒绝和标记命令;话语理解制约标记语的语用功能体现为标记缓延、标记话轮转换和标记信息短缺。  相似文献

话语标记语well作为一种重要的语用和话语组织手段,标示话语前后之间的关系,传递说话者的情感,并制约听话者对话语的理解。本文以关联理论为指导,通过自建语料库,统计并分析了小说《嘉莉妹妹》中well作为话语标记语的五种语用功能,即面子威胁缓和标记语、思维延缓标记语、信息短缺标记语、情感标记语和话题转换标记语,全面揭示了其在会话过程中通过作用语境效果进而强化交际双方的认知关联,从而帮助人们更好地理解和使用well这一话语标记语,实现顺利的话语交际与沟通。  相似文献

话语标记词指的是在口语中经常存在的一类词或者短语,它们不会改变命题内容的真假,但是会影响话语的得体性和交流者的人际关系。本文以英国电视剧《唐顿庄园》作为语料来源,通过仔细研究总结出well的四种语用功能:面子威胁行为缓和语、思考标记语、修正标记语、连贯标记语;并对《唐顿庄园》和中国学生口笔语语料库(SWECCL)中话语标记语well的语用功能进行对比,以期从语用功能的角度辨别英语母语者和中国英语学习者在使用话语标记语well方面的不同,使英语学习者能够充分理解与认识话语标记语。  相似文献

本文通过对我校英语专业学生英语口语原始语料和英国国家语料库(BNC)口语子库的对比分析,研究英语专业学生口语话语标记语的使用特点和规律.研究结果表明:中国大学生和英语母语者在口语中使用的话语标记语不同.在逻辑连接标记语和填充标记语这两大类话语标记语中,中国学生过度使用"er"、"Yes,ye,yeah"和"and"等标记语;学生从未使用"well"、"That is"、"however"、"unless"、"after"等标记语:表明学生在如何使用停顿的语用功能方面存在明显的不足.本研究对英语听说教学有较大的启示作用,对培养学生的话语标记语的认知意识和语用能力有着积极的现实意义.  相似文献

大学英语教学包括对学生听、说、读、写、译能力的培养,但是对哪种能力的培养最重要是我国很多学者争论的议题。中国高校长期使用的传统的语法教学法已经被证明不符合语言教学规律。许多大学外语教学改革的支持者认为应该彻底改变教学指导理论和方法。笔者认为,大学外语教学改革不应完全摒弃传统教学法,相反,应该首先强调阅读能力的培养,这不仅符合我国的国情,也是实际工作需要的要求。  相似文献

Lads and English     
This article explores some of the issues raised by the perennial ‘Boys and English’ debate. It questions whether stereotypically masculine or ‘laddish’ behaviour and the apparent ‘feminisation’ of English hinders the achievements within the subject of all boys. A study of a selective independent boys' school reveals that social context greatly influences how boys relate to the subject, suggesting that it is unhelpful to make generalisations about ‘boys’ and English. The analysis frames the fieldwork with reference to media debate, Ofsted reports, and the literature on gender and English.  相似文献

In Iowa, overwhelmingly White and monolingual, 11 counties have declared English their official language, and a statewide law has been under consideration by the legislature. Against a backdrop of changing language and racial demographics, why do some Iowans perceive the need for "official English" legislation or English-only workplace rules? Why do others reject such measures? To what extent are the attitudes of Iowans reflective of the national debate on official English laws? To what extent are they grounded in local realities? In an exploratory survey of 745 undergraduate-student Iowans, attitudes toward the need for an official English law and the reasoning behind those opinions are examined. Challenges and opportunities for language educators are discussed, as well as suggestions for future research.  相似文献

The present paper is divided into eight sections:introduction,the global diffusion of English,perceptions of the new varieties,the issue of intelligibility,features that cause unintelligibility,need for a broader pragmatics,and pedagogical impli- cations,and conclusion,followed by the references.Not surprisingly,the global spread of English has generated varying perspec- tives on the nature and functions of its acculturated varieties.Broadly speaking,the debate has divided scholars into two camps holding diametrically opposing views on the multiple versions of English.On the one hand,some scholars view variations as symp- toms of linguistic degeneration and deterioration;on the other hand,some scholars legitimize them as inevitable manifestations ne- cessitated by the demands of the new cultural contexts.The normative view of the former camp stems,at least partly,from the problems the new forms of English pose in terms of international intelligibility.It is in this context that the paper examines the traditional,one-sided,native speaker-centred idea of intelligibility and the recent two-sided view of intelligibility that places the onus on both the native speaker and the non-native speaker.The argument of the latter camp is based on the premise that the new varieties require a broader pragmatic framework,because universal pragmatics is inadequate to describe them satisfactorily. Thus,the camp advocates a need for a language specific pragmatics,and a comparative pragmatics,in addition to the traditional universal pragmatics.Logically,the debate on phonological,lexical,grammatical,and discourse structure variations,and their le- gitimacy has prompted English language teaching specialists to have a fresh look at the goals and objectives of teaching English in the countries of the outer and expanding circles,and accordingly prioritize the teaching of national and regional varieties over that of the so-called native varieties.Thus,the paradigms of independence and centrality of the new varieties are replacing the paradigms of their dependence and marginality.  相似文献

North American curriculum theorists Gonzales and Moll and their colleagues have argued that working with children's ‘funds of knowledge’ allows teachers to build on what children already know in order to meet the mandated outcomes. The approach also has the potential to change the knowledges that are valued and which advantage some children over others. In this article we examine three instances in which children's ‘funds of knowledge’ leaked into English classrooms: these were not fully taken up. We suggest that these instances represent opportunities wasted, but that they offer some insight into the challenges of introducing a ‘funds of knowledge’ approach into the English ‘curriculum space’, as well as some of the possibilities. We suggest that while there are current initiatives which do work with children's peer and family knowledges, these are isolated and that coordinated debate is required about the potentials of such an approach in the English context.  相似文献
