Big — bold — beautiful — they're called big books, and preschool teachers are regularly discovering their exciting educational potential. Traditionally, using books with children is a practice that adults have used since they were first developed in the sixteenth century. Indeed, most preschool classrooms include centers which are called by a variety of names — book nook, book corner, book center, storytime center, reading center, or some other title. It's rare to find a child who does not respond to book reading or storytelling, and teachers of young children routinely plan time each day to read a book to their youngsters. Educationally, their use is acceptable practice for children of all ages.

AbstractIn this article, I will describe how the Utopians whom John Dewey once referenced are possibly the ancestors of Indigenous peoples, in this case, ancestors of the Diné. I will describe a Diné philosophy of education through the Kinaa?dá ceremony which was the first ceremony created by the Holy People of the Diné to ensure the survival of the people. I frame this ceremony as an educational experience that illuminates the similarities between the Diné and Utopian philosophies of education. It is through an understanding and experiencing of the Kinaa?dá that one can fully experience a real example of the ‘Utopian schools.’ It is through an upbringing within a non-acquisitive paradigm, ontologically and epistemologically, that one can fully envision this society that William Schubert explains through a compilation of various philosophers and theorists in order to make it understandable to an acquisitive society. The oral teachings from my ancestors through songs, stories and ceremonies that have been passed down to the current generations prove that the utopia once existed and that some ‘Utopians’ still exist. This explanation of a Diné philosophy of education through the Kinaa?dá ceremony is my lived example of what Dewey seemed to have dreamt or found in another dimension. 就学生的学习方式对其心理健康状况的影响展开实验研究很有必要。遵义师范学院185名学生参与了实验。实验组学生93人进行探究学习,对照组92名学生不做任何干预。实验结果表明:两组学生实验前在SCL-90各因子上的得分没有差异。而实验后实验组学生的SCL-90各因子上的得分显著低于对照组。探究学习能提高学生的心理健康水平。 相似文献

A four-session educational intervention at the Japanese senior high school level was conducted with 40 15-16-year-old male and female students. The purpose of the intervention was to break the silence pervading sex education at school and to help students question their understanding of sex, risk, contraception and love. Observations, questionnaires from the participants, and tape-recordings of each session were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. Sexual slang and euphemisms appear to be a relevant tool to enhance the communication between the teacher and students. Discussions about condom use demystified assumptions of young people as disembodied and desexualised beings. For most of the informants the negotiation of condom use was not a rational issue of individuals engaged in cost-benefit analysis. 相似文献
