Teaching Critical Thinking and Problem Defining Skills

Critical thinking and skills in defining problems have been among the goals of a computers and society course that had its credits reduced and student number increased. In an attempt to prevent worsening the students' learning, four measures were taken. The results actually improved from a failure rate of 21.5% to 0.7%. This was mainly due to tighter project structure and additional student work. Reduced course material and improved teacher preparation did not seem to have any effect, while more focused project teaching may have contributed to the decreased failure rate. Further improvements may be gained through time estimation in the problem definition process.     

Metacognitive Instruction: Trainers Teaching Thinking Skills

Humans have the ability to monitor and control their conscious cognitive processes. This ability, called metacognition, implies that people can learn to optimize their cognitive processes. Recent research in metacognition provides new ways of accelerating learning and skill transfer through an improvement in the decision-making, problem solving, and attentional skills of trainees. This paper provides a critical review of recent research in metacognition and presents recommendations for assessing and facilitating metacognitive skills in trainees, using cognitive-based techniques for task analysis and instructional design.     

Purposely Teaching for the Promotion of Higher-order Thinking Skills: A Case of Critical Thinking

This longitudinal case-study aimed at examining whether purposely teaching for the promotion of higher order thinking skills enhances students’ critical thinking (CT), within the framework of science education. Within a pre-, post-, and post–post experimental design, high school students, were divided into three research groups. The experimental group (n = 57) consisted of science students who were exposed to teaching strategies designed for enhancing higher order thinking skills. Two other groups: science (n = 41) and non-science majors (n = 79), were taught traditionally, and acted as control. By using critical thinking assessment instruments, we have found that the experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement on critical thinking skills components and disposition towards critical thinking subscales, such as truth-seeking, open-mindedness, self-confidence, and maturity, compared with the control groups. Our findings suggest that if teachers purposely and persistently practice higher order thinking strategies for example, dealing in class with real-world problems, encouraging open-ended class discussions, and fostering inquiry-oriented experiments, there is a good chance for a consequent development of critical thinking capabilities.

本文介绍了安徽理工大学开展大学化学实验技能竞赛的情况。从化学实验技能竞赛培养学生创新能力和促进实验教学改革两方面进行了探讨,提出了化学实验教学改革的思路。实践表明:化学实验技能竞赛培养了学生的实验能力和创新精神,促进了化学实验教学水平的提高。     

Explicitly Teaching Critical Thinking Skills in a History Course

Critical thinking skills are often assessed via student beliefs in non-scientific ways of thinking, (e.g, pseudoscience). Courses aimed at reducing such beliefs have been studied in the STEM fields with the most successful focusing on skeptical thinking. However, critical thinking is not unique to the sciences; it is crucial in the humanities and to historical thinking and analysis. We investigated the effects of a history course on epistemically unwarranted beliefs in two class sections. Beliefs were measured pre- and post-semester. Beliefs declined for history students compared to a control class and the effect was strongest for the honors section. This study provides evidence that a humanities education engenders critical thinking. Further, there may be individual differences in ability or preparedness in developing such skills, suggesting different foci for critical thinking coursework.     

面向高阶思维能力培养的直播教学策略

直播教学作为一种新的教学形态,以其教学互动感强、反馈及时等优势受到了众多师生的欢迎。文章首先对高阶思维能力、直播教学分别进行了界定,随后通过文献综述介绍了高阶思维能力培养和直播教学的相关研究成果。基于此,文章提出了面向高阶思维能力培养的直播教学策略,具体包括:问题有效嵌入情境、以任务驱动推进自我调控学习、基于同伴互评的小组合作学习、提供合适学习支架、以合作辩论促进思维拓展。最后,文章提出了直播教学策略在实施过程中的注意事项。面向高阶思维能力培养的直播教学策略的提出,可为更好地开展直播教学提供理论参考,并有助于在直播教学中提升学生的高阶思维能力。     

Developing Thinking Skills

The use of the microcomputer and its software to develop thinking skills is often neglected. Paul Skinner, head of Saxon Wood School, Basingstoke, suggests how children can exploit them as tools for thinking.

"精细化"管理思想在中职技能教学中的应用

在中等职业学校技能教学中实施"精细化"管理,是职业岗位、学生特点、技能形成以及学校管理等方面的必然要求.其实施途径包括建立完善的管理制度,优化技能教学流程,规范、分析、交换技能教学信息,以及创设和谐的教学氛围.除了对训练项目、训练方法、考核标准等技能教学内容进行科学、规范的量化表述,中职技能教学"精细化"管理的主要内容还包括技能训练过程的"精细化".     

高层次思维能力在高职英语教学中的培养

随着社会的快速发展和全球一体化的逐步推进,高层次思维能力逐渐被渗透到了教育领域中。20世纪80年代以来,美国、英国等一些西方发达国家,甚至一些发展中国家都把对高层次思维能力的培养作为大学教育的目标之一。文章主要通过对于高层次思维能力的初步探究,进而分析如何在高职院校中培养学生的英语高层次思维能力。     

课堂教学方法对英语专业学生思辨能力培养的影响研究

长期以来,思辨能力培养一直是我国英语专业教学的一个薄弱环节,虽然国内外语界对英语专业学生思辨能力培养的重要性有了一定的认识,但有关如何培养这一能力的研究文献相对较少,实证研究更是寥寥无几。鉴于此,以商务英语翻译课程为例,以东北财经大学国际商务外语学院学生为实证对象,研究课堂实践启发式教学方法对提高英语专业学生思辨意识、培养其思辨能力的影响,以期进一步推进英语专业教学改革,提高英语专业教学质量。     

自闭症儿童的识词教学个案及思考

自闭症儿童各方面能力的发展十分不均衡,个体间、个体内的差异较大。识词,对于某些自闭症儿童来说是一种与生俱来的能力,但对绝大多数的自闭症儿童,要通过适当的方法强化学习,才能习得。以一个自闭症儿童的识词教学为例,通过分析教学过程,结合教学的评价,阐述对自闭症儿童识词教学的思考,以期对以后教学提供有效的启迪。
