在全面调查我国高校图书馆数字化资源建设的基础上．对36所重点高校图书馆的数字化资源建设的质与量、数字资源整合和学科导航进行了分类统计与分析．并指出数字化资源建设中存在的不足以及应注意的问题。

从分析外刊资源建设的现状及环境影响因素入手,探讨了外刊资源建设中存在的经费紧缺、重复建设、使用不平衡和电子期刊的局限等问题,进一步提出了明确发展目标、建立馆藏评价机制、加强用户研究、加强协调与合作以及创建外刊资源门户等方面的思考和建议。     

互操作联邦数字图书馆研究

未来的图书馆将是联邦数字图书馆 ,其目标是向用户提供一个将异构、分布信息源无缝集成的视图 ,实现对数字图书馆资源的透明访问。文中首先介绍了研究数字图书馆互操作的必要性 ,在此基础上重点分析讨论了联邦数字图书馆的实现方法 ,并对当前具有代表性的互操作联邦数字图书馆的研究进行了综述讨论 ,最后简单讨论了目前建立互操作联邦数字图书馆所面临的挑战及进一步研究和解决的问题     

Metadata Practices in Academic and Non-Academic Libraries for Digital Projects: A Survey

This article presents the results of a survey examining and comparing the metadata practices of academic and non-academic libraries regarding digital projects. It explores the types of metadata and vocabularies utilized, issues of interoperability, end-user-created metadata, and staffing for metadata planning and creation. Participants from 87 academic libraries and 40 non-academic libraries responded to the survey. The survey found that, despite their different environments, academic and non-academic libraries engage in similar metadata practices. The majority of the participating libraries have metadata librarians, who are the primary staff members responsible for all metadata activities. Academic libraries tend to use more metadata schemes, plan for metadata interoperability more frequently, and are more likely to have created new positions responsible for metadata for digital projects.     

我国高校图书馆数字化资源整合现状调查

文章以各图书馆网站信息为主要数据来源，对北京大学等20所国内著名高校图书馆的数字资源整合情况进行了调查，分析了整合中存在的资源类型少、数据采集不全、整合系统功能差、整合数据不规范等诸多问题。最后，提出了进行深层数据整合、整合多种资源类型、全面采集整合数据、深化整合系统功能、加强数据标准化规范等整合对策，以供参考。     

数字图书馆互操作综述

互操作是实现数字图书馆 (DLs)的集成或联邦所面临的中心问题。文章对DLs互操作的研究现状及关键技术进行了综述与讨论 ,主要内容包括 :⑴DLs互操作协议、DLs中间件、DLs中的信息发现、语义互操作和元数据互操作 ;⑵DLs互操作的实现方法及评价标准。最后 ,指出了DLs互操作今后的研究方向。

Interlibrary Loan in the United States: An Analysis of Academic Libraries in a Digital Age

The primary focus of this study was to determine the effect of digitally held full-text articles on interlibrary loan (ILL) rates in American academic libraries. A second focus was an examination of how the size of print journals and monograph collections affect ILL activity. Finally, the study looks, in a preliminary fashion, for any effects on ILL rates due to the presence of an MLS-holding librarian as head of the interlibrary loan department. The study investigated American academic libraries and gathered ILL statistics for the period from 1997–2008. It was found that there was a general increase in ILL activity since the 1990s, with an increase in ILL non-fulfillment during the period. There was a strong correlation between print journal and monograph collection size versus ILL activity. There was positive correlation between the presence of databases and ILL activity. The presence of a link resolver was also correlated with increased ILL activity. Finally, the study found there was no overall reduction in ILL department personnel in the last 5 years and that the presence of a professional librarian as head of the department was also positively correlated with ILL activity.

Digital Humanities and Libraries: A Conceptual Model

ABSTRACT

Though there has been much discussion of the connection between libraries and digital humanities (on both sides), a general model of the two has not been forthcoming. Such a model would provide librarians with an overview of the diverse work of digital humanities (some of which they may already perform) and help identify pockets of activity through which each side might engage the other. This article surveys the current locations of digital humanities work, presents a cultural informatics model of libraries and the digital humanities, and situates digital humanities work within the user-centered paradigm of library and information science.
