This study examined the underlying structure of the Depression scale of the revised Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory using dichotomous Rasch model and factor analysis. Rasch methodology was used to identify and restructure the Depression scale, and factor analysis was used to confirm the structure established by the Rasch model. The item calibration and factor analysis were carried out on the full sample of 2,600 normative subjects. The results revealed that the Depression scale did not consist of one homogeneous set of items, even though the scale was developed to measure one dimension of depression. Rasch analysis, as well as factor analysis, recognized two distinct content‐homogeneous subscales, here labeled mental depression and physical depression. The Rasch methodology provided a basis for a better understanding of the underlying structure and furnished a useful solution to the scale refinement.  相似文献

In the decades since 1960, issues associated with the women's movement have significantly impacted American public opinion. Although it is generally agreed that women have made progress in the workplace, education, and politics, the trends supporting all aspects of the women's movement have not been uniform over time. Changing attitudes toward women's roles and toward the question of legal abortion are two clusters of attitudes that illustrate the complexity and multidimensionality of public perceptions of feminist issues. The purpose of this study is to test the hypotheses that these two clusters of attitudes are discrete, that they are correlated with each other, and that their relation to each other has remained stable over time.  相似文献

The present study examined the quality of teacher–child relationships in a collectivist and individualist country, specifically, Portugal and Belgium. Two relationship dimensions were examined the following: conflict and closeness. Participants were 158 Portuguese and 197 Belgian children and their teachers. In both countries, teachers completed the Student–Teacher Relationship Scale (STRS). Measurement invariance was tested through multiple-group analysis. The results supported configural and metric invariance across countries, but not full scalar equivalence, suggesting that the STRS is robust across countries. Some associations differed between the samples. Specifically, teachers’ perceptions of closeness were negatively related to conflict in Belgium, but not in Portugal. Teachers described boys and girls as having similar levels of both conflict and closeness in Portugal, while in Belgium girls are likely to have closer relationships with their teachers. Moreover, observed emotional climate was positively associated with closeness in Belgium (but not Portugal), indicating that Belgian teachers in classrooms with more warm and positive interactions were likely to have closer individual relationships with their students.  相似文献

Rats chose between alternatives that differed in the number of reinforcers and in the delay to each reinforcer. A left leverpress led to two reinforcers, each delivered after a fixed delay. A right leverpress led to one reinforcer after an adjusting delay. The adjusting delay was increased or decreased many times in a session, depending on the rat’s choices, in order to estimate an indifference point& #x2014;a delay at which the two alternatives were chosen about equally often. Both the number of reinforcers and their individual delays affected the indifference points. The overall pattern of results was well described by the hyperbolic-decay model, which states that each additional reinforcer delivered by an alternative increases preference for that alternative but that a reinforcer’s effect is inversely related to its delay. Two other possible delay-discounting equations, an exponential equation and a reciprocal equation, did not produce satisfactory predictions for these data. Adding an additional free parameter to the hyperbolic equation as an exponent for delay did not appreciably improve the predictions, suggesting that raising delay to some power other than 1.0 was unnecessary. The results were qualitatively similar to those from a previous experiment with pigeons (Mazur, 1986), but quantitative differences suggested that the rates of delay discounting were several times slower for rats than for pigeons.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to gain an insight into novice teachers’ diverse experiences. The study is conducted among nine beginning teachers in upper secondary school in Norway, and the research instrument was semi structured interviews. The main findings indicate that there are two sides of the coin of being a new teacher, positive as well as less positive aspects. The beginning teachers want to be recognised as who they are, new to the job, and on the other hand, they want to be accepted as fully qualified teachers. The two contradictory perceptions of themselves as professionals represent two sides of the same coin.  相似文献

This paper examines the practice of two novice teacher educators working as instructional coaches in a university-based teacher education program. Previous research suggests that the knowledge and skills required to be an effective teacher are distinct from those required to be an effective teacher educator. Yet novice teacher educators often receive minimal preparation. This qualitative study identifies dilemmas that novice coaches encounter during observation debrief conversations in order to inform coach training. The findings suggest that the process used by the researchers to surface dilemmas may also be a useful intervention in shaping the identity and practice of novice teacher educators.  相似文献

We propose a new design scheme for a Booth encoder based on clocked transmission gate adiabatic logic (CTGAL). In the new design the structural complexity of the Booth encoder is reduced while the speed of the multiplier is improved. The adiabatic two's complement multiplier-accumulator (MAC) is furthermore a design based on the CTGAL. The computer simulation results indicate that the designed circuit has the correct logic function and remarkably less energy consumption compared to that of the MAC based on complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) logic.  相似文献

This article brings together ethnographies of two privileged educational settings in the United States – a private school in California’s Central Valley following the progressivist Sudbury model, and an affluent New England boarding school’s summer enrichment program. Each of these institutions serves as an alternative to and/or extension of publicly accessible education institutions during a neoliberal era of marketization and growing educational inequality. By comparing findings from ethnographic studies of each institution, we find that both celebrate open access and socially responsible pedagogical values in ways that obscure mechanisms of exclusion and an entrenched individualist ideology. We discuss two particular contradictions that manifest in both settings: first, a discourse of openness and inclusivity that belies the ways in which access is mediated by constructions of who best ‘fits’ the special learning community; and second, an outspoken allegiance to socially engaged values of diversity and democracy that belies the ways in which these values are commodified and appropriated for students’ individual advantage(s). In comparing such sites, we argue for the importance of tracing the mechanisms of advantage in under-researched ‘niches’ of the dynamically shifting and unequally accessed neoliberal marketplace for educational opportunity.  相似文献

Proximal point algorithms (PPA) are attractive methods for solving monotone variational inequalities (MVI). Since solving the sub-problem exactly in each iteration is costly or sometimes impossible, various approximate versions of PPA (APPA) are developed for practical applications. In this paper, we compare two APPA methods, both of which can be viewed as predic- tion-correction methods. The only difference is that they use different search directions in the correction-step. By extending the general forward-backward splitting methods, we obtain Algorithm I; in the same way, Algorithm II is proposed by spreading the general extra-gradient methods. Our analysis explains theoretically why Algorithm II usually outperforms Algorithm I. For computation practice, we consider a class of MVI with a special structure, and choose the extending Algorithm II to implement, which is inspired by the idea of Gauss-Seidel iteration method making full use of information about the latest iteration. And in particular, self-adaptive techniques are adopted to adjust relevant parameters for faster convergence. Finally, some nu- merical experiments are reported on the separated MVI. Numerical results showed that the extending Algorithm II is feasible and easy to implement with relatively low computation load.  相似文献

This study examined the extent that a scholarship program operating in Sierra Leone and Djibouti was successful in increasing girls’ persistence in basic education. Results of field studies indicated that scholarships could be appropriately targeted and delivered in ways that appear to minimize misappropriation of funds. However, the scholarships often created significant tensions between award recipients and non-recipients and among their families that frequently isolated recipient girls and led to their harassment by non-recipients. These findings are interpreted within the context of the larger debate about the relative merit of abolishing school fees for all students or targeting scholarships for only the neediest students.  相似文献
