Criteria for the Selection of Engineers for Employment

The demand for greater numbers of technically-trained personnel, along with the scientific sophistication needed to meet tomorrow's need for new technologies, indicate that we must take a new look at our present criteria for the selection of engineers for employment. Criteria must be more basic than the mere evaluation of personality, grades and interests. This fact suggests the necessity to redefine the present industrial concept of engineering.     

Prospects for the implementation of assessment for learning

This paper analyses aspects of a Hong Kong school curriculum reform, which recommends amongst other things, a greater focus on assessment for learning. It outlines the principles of the reform as it pertains to assessment and discusses how structural changes are being employed to lend support to changes in the assessment culture in Hong Kong. The paper draws on a previous problematic attempt to introduce formative assessment through the Target-Oriented Curriculum initiative. Two examples of assessment for learning practice of 'early adopters' are used to illustrate both the potential and some of the challenges of implementation in the Hong Kong primary school context. From these cases, are drawn out some of the facilitating and inhibiting factors impinging on the implementation of assessment for learning in schools, building on a model of professional growth.

文章分析了一个营业日向银行取款的客户数量，该变量服从Poisson分布。将客户按富裕程度分为三个层次，即工薪阶层、较富阶层和富裕阶层，构造出单个客户取款数量的密度函数。并分析了客户对银行货币需求的概率分布，将其归结为一个泛函极值问题，并进行了求解，结论是客户对银行货币需求的分布为指数分布。

民事责任竞合主要体现为违约责任与侵权责任的竞合，是司法实践中常见的法律现象，也是理论上值得探讨的问题之一。本文从其理论渊源出发，比较分析各种观点及法律实践，提出责任竞合就是请求权竞合。责任竞合时，权利人可以选择请求权，但只能实现其中之一，并对《合同法》相关规定提出完善意见。     

The Scope for Stimulation of Demand for Higher Education

Calls for the large-scale expansion of British higher education raise fundamental questions about supply and demand. An increase of 400,000 students by the turn of the century would require action both to stimulate demand and encourage institutions to meet it. This article considers the main types of market that higher education will need to develop in order to fulfil such an ambitious target and concludes that a very substantial marketing effort would be needed in addition to financial incentives if the opportunities available are to be grasped.     

Levels of indicator development for education for sustainable development

The article summarizes some considerations about the development of indicators for education for sustainable development (ESD). It reflects the present state of discussion, especially from a German perspective, and includes present developments in the area of quality criteria and standards for ESD. These discussion threads only denote the beginning of a discourse that will eventually lead to a practicable instrument for estimating the progress of ESD. This article shall give suggestions for the systematic development of an indicator system for ESD linking three dimensions: levels of educational systems, key functions of indicators, and key aspects of indicator development.

刑事被害人精神损害赔偿权立法的必要性分析

被害人的精神损害赔偿请求权,是指被害人为保护其人格权不受犯罪侵害而依法提起诉讼的一种程序性权利。我国刑事立法未规定此权利,最高法院司法解释则明确限制被害人享有此权利。这一做法不仅不符合宪法精神,与法治建设的要求相悖,而且对社会主义和谐社会的构建形成直接的制度阻碍。本文从逻辑角度、刑罚的作用、刑事司法的目的、立法现状及国际上的通用做法等方面入手,分析了在我国精神损害赔偿权的立法必要性。
