Starting in the fall of 2012, the staff at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Library began to plan for a library-wide reorganization of staff and services. Every staff member would be affected by the reorganization process, including the library’s serials and e-resources team. In what could be a most chaotic time, the serials and e-resources team chose to use the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) draft version of core competencies for electronic resource librarians as a guide to help in selecting members for the e-resources team that would emerge following the reorganization. The presentation on which this article is based reviews the situation at UTA, the core competencies, and how the serials/e-resources team used the core competencies along with a self-assessment tool to help select the most qualified staff for the team.  相似文献

[目的/意义]美国《电子资源图书馆员核心能力》标准是专门针对电子资源图书馆员的管理和工作能力而制定的相关标准,内容涵盖了电子资源全生命周期管理中所需要具备的技能和知识,对其内容及实践应用进行研究对我国实现高水平的电子资源管理极具意义。[方法/过程]对美国《电子资源图书馆员核心能力》标准的内容进行解析,介绍和分析其在学生专业培训、图书馆机构重组、图书馆人员继续教育、图书馆部门及个人工作的评估和图书馆服务平台的迁移和流程重组等案例中的应用方式及效果。[结果/结论]美国《电子资源图书馆员核心能力》标准可以在图书馆的多个领域发挥作用,图书馆需灵活掌握,根据本馆实际情况借鉴应用,支持电子资源管理领域的深入拓展和人才培养,更好地应对图书馆的动态发展环境。  相似文献

随着近年来我国自然科学类博物馆数量和规模的迅速增长,人才问题日益凸显。本报告通过问卷调查和访谈的方法,对我国自然科学类博物馆人才队伍结构以及人才队伍培养的现状、问题与需求进行调研和分析,认为我国自然科学类博物馆人才队伍存在学历结构偏低、经验不足等问题,同时人才培养缺少有效途径、有针对性的培养方案和足够的资源支撑。在此基础上,本文提出了建立人才队伍培养的差异化方案、专业化的人才队伍评估体系以及多元化的人才队伍培养资源等对策建议。  相似文献

On the surface, it might appear that libraries with different collections, staffing levels, and budgets would have to make use of different tools to address their e-resource management needs. However, in their review of electronic resources lifecycle work at North Carolina State University and Georgia Perimeter College, Tessa Minchew and Sofia Slutskaya discovered that this is not always the case. The presenters reviewed the electronic resources lifecycle and three distinct types of tools (content management systems/wikis, Microsoft Access, and Trello) that are being used in different ways to address different lifecycle-related tasks at each of their institutions.  相似文献

This article will provide an overview of current topics in Digital Scholarship and Scholarly Communications (DS/SC) and draw connections between these new areas and the traditional skill set of electronic resources librarians. In the pursuit of new and actionable knowledge, the author conducted fieldwork in New Orleans four years following Hurricane Katrina. Since archival staff and restorers can be involved in moderate to major catastrophic disasters in archival institutions, differences in priorities between archival staff and restorers provide insight into each group's procedural preferences for ranking training topics. When 185 archival staff and 52 restorer respondents ranked training topics for importance, statistically significant differences were exhibited in five out of twenty-one training topics (α = .05). Since both groups have different job-specific skills, there exist reasons for differences in training topic rankings.  相似文献

Amanda Yesilbas, Electronic Resources librarian at the Florida Center for Library Automation (FCLA), gave a presentation at the MidSouth eResource Symposium held at Mississippi State University on August 11, 2011 entitled Using Drupal to Track Licenses and Organize Database Information. Yesilbas presented information on how she used Drupal, a free open-source content management system, to organize database elements, such as vendor records, license contracts, and statistics data. She discussed Drupal's ease of use and flexibility and how FCLA used it to manage their electronic resources. Yesilbas also gave a brief demonstration of Drupal and its functionality and ease of use.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Reading fiction can teach sophisticated management skills. The difference between paraliterary fiction that focuses on escaping reality and literary fiction that analyzes reality is important. All reading can help improve basic literacy including increased comprehension and reading speed. Intermediate skills provide the manager with specific lessons on how to manage. Advanced skills, obtained from reading literary fiction, include empathy, the ability to interpret and create sophisticated texts, and an increased possibility of recognizing the “truth” in any environment. Traditional business publications offer more direct training but often overlook the complexities that the experienced manager will encounter and overemphasize the possibilities for success.

Column Editor’s Note This JLA column will consider issues of education and training for management positions in libraries and other information organizations from the perspectives of both the provider and the recipient. The column will appear in odd-numbered issues of the journal and focus on management education/training at various stages of the individual's career including the effectiveness of these efforts, their content, and the specific challenges of teaching and learning within the field of librarianship. Abstract

The circulation staff at Staley Library, Millikin University, in Decatur, Illinois, experimented with using Blackboard courseware to train student employees. Staff and students' feedback offer additional ways to utilize Blackboard's features. Some promising applications for training and communicating with student employees are described. The student employees' Blackboard course page continues to evolve as an integral part of student employee training.  相似文献
