Socio-cultural adaptation,academic adaptation and satisfaction of international higher degree research students in Australia

The number of international higher degree research students has grown at a significant rate in recent years, with Australia becoming a hub for attracting such students from around the world. However, research has identified that international higher degree research students often encounter a wide range of academic and socio-cultural challenges in adapting to their new environment, which can have a significant bearing on their levels of satisfaction with their studies. This paper outlines the findings of a mixed method study exploring the experiences and perceptions of international higher degree research students from five different countries in Australia. Findings revealed that the most important issues in terms of satisfaction were not directly related to academic studies. Instead, factors such as integration into the community, interacting with other students, relationships with supervisors, and the provision of adequate desk space were often given the greatest weight. Implications for how university policy can better support international doctoral students are discussed.     

国际高等职业教育发展趋势分析

高等职业教育既是职业教育的重要组成部分，又是高等教育的重要力量，各国对此都表现出了前所未有的重视和关注。从发达国家的发展经验来看，高等职业教育均呈现出相同的发展趋势，即：高等职业教育管理的法制化；高等职业教育理念的终身化；高等职业教育发展的国际化；高等职业教育对象的多样化；高等职业教育手段的现代化；高等职业教育体系的高移化；高等职业教育考核的标准化；高等职业教育动力的自主化。     

Understanding aspirations and expectations of international students in Australian higher education

The aspirations and expectations of the growing international student cohort in Australia are implicitly incorporated into recruitment and internationalization strategies but have received little academic analysis. To address this gap in the literature, this paper develops a conceptual model built upon earlier research by Tim Mazzarol and Geoffrey Soutar, which focuses on the push and pull factors relating to home country and country of destination, respectively, in relation to students' decisions to seek international study. Focusing predominantly on Chinese and Indian students, we conceptualise, extend and place the push and pull factors within a social psychological framework in relation to students' aspirations and expectations of international education, indicating factors that can be influenced by higher education (HE) institutions and their programmes, and those which cannot. We then interrogate the model and its applicability in Australian HE through the case study of an Indian international Study Tour conducted in our Australian HE institution in 2009. In the present context of decreased international student enrolments in Australia in 2010, where we seek to better understand our international students, the proposed model provides a basis for identifying international students' expectations and aspirations and developing prospective international relations.

高职院校要培养出受企业欢迎的人才，必须清楚企业对人才有什么样的需求。本文从企业对国际贸易专业人才需求的角度，剖析企业对国际贸易专业人才的期望规格，指出企业对高职院校培养国际贸易人才的认识，进而提出高职培养国际贸易人才必须注重双语教学，适当进行专业复合，强调实践性，注重应用性。     

关于高职生学习现状的思考

社会对高职院校人才培养提出了培养目标、服务范围和人才培养模式三项要求，而当前高职生的学习状况却与之相差甚远。高职院校在重视学生技术应用能力培养和职业素质培养的同时，还必须培养学生健康的学习心态，并采取多种方式增强学生的就业能力。     

德国技术员教育对我国高职教育的启示

分析了德国的职业教育体系,德国的技术员教育和我国的高等职业教育具有同样的地位。进而分析了德国巴伐利亚州的技术员教学计划和爱科特教育集团技术员的培养方式。对我国高等职业教育与德国巴伐利亚州的技术员教育进行比较,结合其可借鉴的经验,阐述了德国技术员教育对我国高职教育的启示。     

Peer learning in international higher education: the experience of international students in an Irish university

Some of the main concerns in international higher education are the feeling of isolation among international students and their inability to adapt to the host environment, which may result in sub-optimal academic performance. Theoretically, peer learning can be an effective method to reduce these problems since it has the capacity to address isolation and adaptability issues among international students in a way that improves their learning experience and outcomes. Given the above, our study was designed to investigate this topic, focusing on the experience of international students. In this exploratory case study of a leading Irish university, we adopted a survey method via questionnaire to quantify and compare the experiences of a sample of international students at the said university. Five aspects of peer learning were explored, namely usage rate, current practices, outcomes, challenges, and coping strategies. We also included an open-ended section in the survey instrument for respondents to offer qualitative suggestions to the host institution. Through methodological triangulation of the quantitative and qualitative data, we discovered diverse practices, challenges, and outcomes of peer learning across different groups of international students in this university. The paper concludes with a discussion of research implications and suggestions for future studies.

从美国STC理念看我国高等职业教育的发展

以美国STC理念为基础,从四个方面提出了我国高等职业教育的发展方略:从社会需求和学生个体出发,推行KAQ教育模式;在产学合作的同时,避免订单式培养的狭隘性;实施职业资格考试制度;改革高等职业教育学制。     

高职大学生生涯规划的调查与分析

本长沙民政策职业技术为对象对高职大学生的生涯规划状况进行了调查，结果表明，超过半数的高职大学生对生涯规划有所了解，在生涯规划时能从就业网站上获得职业介绍的内容和谋职技巧。但是，也有相当部分的高职大学生，尤其是应用科类的大学生，对本专业的学习不感兴趣，绝大部分学生都急需接受生涯规划指导。

对高职生加强诚信思想教育工作,不仅有利于他们品德素养的提高,而且还有利于构建和谐校园、促进高职生顺利就业和中华民族传统美德的传承。结合工作实践,从依托思想政治课、教师率先垂范、开展形式多样的"讲诚信"活动范式、完善管理机制和打造诚信文化的和谐校园五个方面,探讨了培养高职生诚信思想的主要措施与方法。

通过对基于依从心理的沟通技巧运用,介绍了低球手法、承诺、互惠、引起注意、以退为进、提供归因等沟通原则在高职学生教育管理中的应用。     

高职学生思想政治教育工作主体性调查与研究

高职院校要加强高职学生的思政教育工作,扭转"重技能、轻人文"的思政教育现状。运用问卷调查和访谈方式,采用数据分析的方法,对高职学生思政教育现状进行实证研究,并提出要加强师资培训,强化思政课的作用,开发丰富多彩的教材内容,强化实践教学以及大力建设育人环境等建议。     

中国高职教育的新实践、新理论、新发展

近十年,大批高职院校在中华大地上涌现,由于高职教育理论、教学模式、教学方法准备不充足,各院校都在摸索中前进。经过近十年的实践与探索,产出了一大批高职教育研究成果,这些成果在高职院校的教育教学中,还没有得到广泛应用,很有必要以某种形式在高职院校中推行,让新的理论与方法在应用与实践中升华。高职教育作为整体,目前存在着许多难以克服的困难和问题。研究如何应用最新研究成果,形成中国特色的高职教育体系、理论框架和实践模式,是全体高职人面临的新课题。如果在这些课题研究中有所进展、有所突破,中国高职教育一定有望成为世界典范。     

谈怎样增强高职思政理论课教学的实效性

为增强高职院校思想政治理论课实效性,本文结合工作经验回顾认为:应注重加强管理与师资队伍建设为前提,尊重高职生的主体地位为起点,在教学方法要体现灵活性、学内容应注重的科学性,在教学评价上要体现出科学性。     

Internationalisation of higher education: integrating international students into Canadian academic environment

Fuelled by globalisation, the internationalisation of higher education in Canada is happening at a rapid pace. One manifestation of internationalisation is the increasing enrolment of international graduate students in Canadian institutions. Many of these students face challenges and barriers in integrating into Canadian academic environments including isolation, alienation, marginalisation and low self-esteem. This case study investigates a programme at a large Canadian university intended to help international graduate students with their adaptation to an unfamiliar academic environment. The research shows that the programme was successful in creating a transnational learning space where international students developed a sense of belonging, increased cross-cultural understanding and raised awareness about global issues. More importantly, it helped international students with their integration into a Canadian learning community. The findings have important implications for the development of programmes to provide appropriate levels of support for international students and for building internationally inclusive campuses.
