Preschool as an Arena for Developing Teacher Knowledge Concerning Children’s Language Learning

The most important benefits of international comparisons are the indications that make hidden national characteristics visible and shed new light on the system in each country. From a comparative perspective, this article explores what Swedish and Norwegian preschool teachers emphasise as important to preschool student teachers about preschool as an arena for children’s language learning. The theoretical framework of the study is based on ecological system theories (Bronfenbrenner in The ecology of human development, Harvard University Press, Cambridge, 1979; Bronfenbrenner in Dev Psychology 22(6):723–742, 1986) and socio-cultural theories concerning language learning (Vygotsky in Thought and language, MIT Press, Cambridge, 1986). The data are produced through interviews with 69 Swedish and 35 Norwegian preschool teachers. The analyses focused on what the preschool teachers stated to be the most important elements to work with concerning children’s language learning, how and why they worked like this, and what rationales may have led to their pedagogy. The two countries seem quite alike in terms of the values embedded in early childhood education and political ideas concerning a rich childhood based on play and democratic ideals. By comparing the two countries, the results reveal differences that can lead to a deeper knowledge of cultural concepts that are often taken for granted, such as pedagogical approaches, and how these create different conditions for children’s preschool language learning.

Negotiating Voice Construction Between Writers and Readers in College Writing: A Case Study of an L2 Writer

Voice is co-constructed, a result of the “text-mediated interaction between the writer and the reader.” The present study, using the context of U.S. college writing, explores the complicated process by which an L2 novice writer—one who has a growing awareness of, yet peripheral access to, discourse practices—constructs a voice. Through interviews and a close analysis of a text, a comparison is made between the voice the L2 writer wished to project in an assigned paper and the voice constructed by two readers in the course of their anonymous readings of the paper. The significant gap between the L2 writer’s aims and the readers’ responses suggests that a writer’s view of her voice stems from the ways in which she conceptualizes discourse conventions, in association with her particular linguistic, social, and cultural background. The pedagogical implications of the L2 writer’s process of negotiating identity, and her struggles to learn discourse expectations, are discussed.

试从母语写作能力与二语写作焦虑关系入手,通过问卷调查和统计分析探讨了这二者的关系,研究结果显示：（1）英语专业学生在用二语写作时普遍产生焦虑心理,大二学生比大三学生更焦虑;（2）认知焦虑、生理焦虑、规避行为这三种不同焦虑指数有显著差异,大二学生比大三学生更焦虑,其中认知焦虑程度最高;（3）不同二语写作焦虑水平的学生的汉语写作成绩表现出较大的差异,表明汉语写作水平随着二语写作焦虑的不同而不同;（4）三种二语写作焦虑水平与被试的汉语写作成绩负相关,其中规避行为与汉语写作成绩呈显著负相关。     

写作与二语习得

写作历史性地被认为只是口语的记载,是一种为记录和传播口语而出现的现代发明,并长期被排斥于应用语言学研究的边缘。这种偏见因而造成了二语习得研究对写作的忽视。事实上,写作作为一种语言输出形式,是与口语输出同样重要的有效交际行为,能在二语学习过程中减轻面对面交际给学习者带来的心理压力,并有助于语言知识的内化。网络电子邮件的出现更突显了写作在二语习得中的作用。因此,如何利用写作来促进二语学习应成为二语习得研究的一个重点。     

第二语言写作教学方法研究综述

本文着重于研究跟第二语言写作有关的主要传统的和现代的研究和教学方法,包括"受控写作"、"段落模式写作"、过程方法、学术方向写作、基于网络平台的写作教学模式等。其中有些现代写作方法的研究领域涉及项目的、语篇的、学科的、政治的、还有网络技术的问题。最后,作者指出相关领域的教育者和研究人员应考虑利用理论知识和调查结果自己判断什么是真正对学生有用的模式。

通过广泛的文献研究,本文作者发现,2004年度针对外语写作及写作教学的研究主要集中在以下4个方面:(1)对教学方法和策略的研究,其中最为突出的是计算机网络辅助写作教学。(2)对写作评价的研究,其研究的热点是写作错误反馈的方法。(3)针对语篇的研究兴趣依然不减,这进一步加深了人们对语言与文化关系的理解。(4)学者们开始关注对纯语篇的探讨,这为充分理解作者的写作目的和态度提供了一个新的视角。     

信息结构理论观照下的二语写作

着眼于篇章建构的视角越来越成为近年来写作教学改革的明显趋势。语篇不仅是一个简单的语法单位,也是发话者（写作者）向读者（接收者）传递信息的语义单位。而语篇生成过程中信息度的处理成为语篇连贯、衔接和结构优化的关键手段之一。信息结构和信息度的合理安排也直接关系到语篇能否达到最大的＂可及性＂。在写作教学过程中强调信息结构的处理有助于改善目前英语写作篇章质量普遍薄弱的现状。
