Beijing Unveils Mascots for Its Olympics - ＂Five Friendlies＂

After years of fierce lobbying and months of secrecy, Beijing unveiled five mascots for the 2008 Olympics on November 11, 2005. In an elaborate, nationally televised gala at Beijing Workers＇ Stadium to mark the 1,000-day countdown until the Games, senior Chinese leaders introduced the mascots - cartoon renditions of a panda, fish, Tibetan antelope, swallow and the Olympic flame, each one representing the color of one of the Olympic rings. The animals were introduced as Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huan Huan, Ying Ying and Ni Ni-which, who put together, translates to ＂Beijing welcomes you!＂     

Meet In Beijing Arts Festival Gets Under Way

13th World Olympic Collectors＇ Fair opens in Beijing OLYMPIC COLLECTORS＇ RENDEZVOUS

Fans and collectors of Olympics-related souvenirs such as coins and stamps flocked to the 13th World Olympic Collectors＇ Fair which took place from June 22 to 28. Visitors from numerous countries attended the six-day fair which showcases more than a century of treasures representing the various stages of the Olympic movement.Collectors from across the world brought their collections to Beijing to exchange with Chinese collectors and to show to Chinese people the greatness of the Olympic collectors＇ family. Items shown at the fair include Olympic torches, trophies and athlete suits,as well as pins, coins, stamps and other items bearing the Olympic rings. It is the first time the fair has been held in China and it has opened free to public visitors.     

Design Capital, Smart City Beijing Design Week 2013

Beijing Design Week 2013 （BJDW） took place from September 26 through to the Golden P Week until October 3, 2013. The third editionof BJDW is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Culture and Beijing Municipal Government, and co-organized by Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group and Beijing Industrial Design Center.With the theme of＂design capital, smart city＂, BJDW featured a series of creative and inspiring events, including the Opening Series, the Design Award competition, the thematic exhibitions, the Design Class, the Guest City of Amsterdam, the Journey of Design and Design Season, etc. Altogether, 260 events and activities were held during BJDW, from exhibitions to lectures, from annual sessions to trade fairs, from receptions to experience workshops.

After three years of preparation, the exhibition ＂One Hundred Years of Watercolor Painting＂, jointly-sponsored by the Arts Department of Chinese Cultural Ministry, Chinese Artists＇ Association and the National Art Museum of China, was held from October 14 to 27, 2006. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China launched the series program ＂diplomatic missions tour to cultural heritage sites in China＂ in 2006, with an aim to showcase the country＇s rich cultural heritage resources and achievements in heritage protection to the international community. Wuming from the Kingdom of Qin killed Changkong, Duanjian and Feixue, the three assassins which wanted to murder Yingzheng, King of Qin. Yingzheng was very pleased and allowed Wuming to come to see himself ten steps away. During their meeting, Wuming told the king how he defeated the three assassins with his strength and wisdom. But from his account the king found out the conspiracy behind: those three assassins actually had themselves killed by Wuming on purpose so that he could approach the king and kill him. Wuming, however, spoke out the other side of the story: it is Duanjian who tried to persuade Wuming not to assassinate the king     

ANTIQUES FAIR OPENED TO PROMOTE BOOMING ART

The 1 st Beijing International Chinese Antiques Fairs （BICAF）was held from November 30 to December 4 at the Golden Hall in Beiiing Hotel, Most of pieces on display spent time abroad——some have only recently returned to China while others are still owned by foreign collectors. Nearly 70% of the exhibits were displayed to public for the first time. Antique masterpieces from the Capital Museum and Poly Museum, recentlv recovered from abroad, were showcased in a special area in the exhibition hall in an attempt to promote traditional culture and return of more Chinese antiques from abroad.
