Can adults gain a native-like accent

There is a hot debate in linguistics and second language acquisition over the extent to which the ability to acquire a second language is naturally connected with age.This article explores whether one's age at which he begins to learn a second language is a contributing factor in his accent.With contrastive analysis,the article comes to the conclusion that it is rare for late learners to have a native-like accent.     

Improving students' pronunciation through accent reduction software

This study aimed to find out whether integrating accent reduction software in advanced English language classes at the university level would result in improvements in students’ pronunciation at the segmental and sup‐rasegmental levels. The study made use of a quasi‐experimental research design. Two classes at the Department of Foreign Language Education at Middle East Technical University in Turkey participated in the study. Whilst one class (the control group) followed traditional instruction, the other class (experimental group) followed instruction which integrated use of accent reduction software in a multimedia language laboratory. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings where natural target language input is scarce, technology has a lot to offer, and EFL learners may be provided with exposure and practice/interaction opportunities in the target language through specifically designed software programs.

批判性心理学是20世纪60年代在德国兴起的一场心理学运动,它以批判性的眼光审视心理学理论背后隐藏的意识形态,采用主体性的研究思路,旨在实现人性的自由解放。当前,批判性心理学已经在世界范围内发展起来,在西方心理学界中独树一帜,对彰显心理学的价值维度,关注心理学的政治、社会影响,起着独特而重要的作用。     

ADORNO AND HORKHEIMER: DIASPORIC PHILOSOPHY, NEGATIVE THEOLOGY, AND COUNTER-EDUCATION

From a contemporary perspective, the work of the Frankfurt School thinkers can be considered the last grand modern attempt to offer transcendence, meaning, and religiosity rather than "emancipation" and "truth." In the very first stage of their work, Adorno and Horkheimer interlaced the goals of Critical Theory with the Marxian revolutionary project. The development of their thought led them to criticize orthodox Marxism and ended in a complete break with that tradition, as they developed a quest for a unique kind religiosity connected with the Gnostic tradition and emanating, to a certain extent, from Judaism. This religiosity offers a reformulated Negative Theology within the framework of what I call "Diasporic philosophy." In his later work, Horkheimer explicitly presented Critical Theory as a new Jewish theology. Rearticulating Critical Theory is of vital importance today, both for understanding the current historical moment and for going beyond the oppressive dimensions of Critical Pedagogy. This article does not satisfy itself by offering a new reconstruction of Critical Theory; its goal is to offer a blueprint for a Diasporic counter-education that transcends Critical Pedagogy and goes beyond the emancipatory dimensions of Judaism itself.

文章基于对Paul批判性思维模型及其在线学习模型的改进,构建了一个用于异步在线交流的提问交互模型,以促进网络社区中学习者批判性思维的发展。该模型在批判性思维教学方面的有效性已经得到初步证实。     

Becoming critical: the failure to connect

This article is a retrospective critique of Becoming Critical by Carr & Kemmis. Into it are woven responses to other retrospective reviews of the book by Susan Groundwater–Smith, Susan Noffke, and Carr & Kemmis themselves. The basic argument is that Becoming Critical was overdependent on the work of Jurgen Habermas and was therefore vulnerable to the same critique. The author argues that just as Habermas did not resolve the dualism between theory and practice, nor did Becoming Critical. Like the work of Habermas, its theory of rationality is very weak in creating a link between ideology critique and the organisation of strategic action. This explains why, in spite of its attractiveness to many education academics, it was unable to support critical action research at an operational level. The article refutes suggestions that the problem with the book was that times have changed. It argues that Becoming Critical anticipated these changes, but was conceptually unable to address them. This was largely because it differentiated a hierarchy of distinct types of action research grounded in quasi–transcendental categories of knowledge constitutive interests. In the course of the critique of Becoming Critical the author proposes a more philosophically pragmatic account of action research that integrates the ‘critical’ as an intrinsic dimension of practical discourse.     

The correlation between accent perception accuracy and listening proficiency

This study tries to examine the correlation between Chinese EFL learners’ accent perception accuracy of and their listening proficiency.Accent annotation data were collected from 80 English-majored freshmen and sophomores.Results show that their accent perception accuracy is positively related to their listening proficiency.Therefore,it is concluded that the teaching of the accent should be enhanced to help students overcome some supersegmental obstacles in their listening.     

A Critical Literacy Frame for UK secondary education contexts

This paper presents a pedagogical, analytical and heuristic tool for the critical analysis of texts, the Critical Literacy Frame, developed through a critical textual and discourse analysis of the genre of broadcast adversarial political interviewing, further informed by questionnaires and interviews with key informants. It is grounded in a social‐constructionist orientation to language, and is underpinned theoretically by insights from Critical Discourse Analysis and Critical Literacy. The potential for such a frame, in the context of UK secondary education, particularly with reference to A level English Language and Citizenship, is considered and recommendations for pedagogy, curriculum, teacher‐education, policy and further complementary research are offered.

Close Reading: A Synergistic Approach to the (Post)Modern Divide

This paper explores the relationship between New Critical close reading techniques and studies of literary engagement by building on the work of Sumara, Rosenblatt and Todorov. New Critical techniques responded to the allusive density and terseness of modernist poetry and fiction. In the half‐century since, the situated approaches favoured by postmodernism have pushed the hermeticism and analytic underpinnings of modernism (that of the text as an entity unto itself) from vogue. After delineating some precepts from the New Critical perspective and tracing the shift towards postmodernism, this paper argues for a synergistic critical approach for literary exploration in the secondary and tertiary classroom; specifically, it argues for the pedagogical necessity of close reading as a precursor to literary engagement and postmodernist textual considerations.

例谈普通话学习中的方语和方音理论

本文从儿童心理学的角度,提出了学前期是学习普通话的关键期,进而提出把方言学的研究分成方语和方音两大部分,并以云南部分方言为例,阐释了学习普通话的重点在于纠正方音的观点,从而为各方言区的人们学习普通话提供一条更为简捷和有效的路子。     

浅析中国当代女作家的创作特征

1989年由中国社会科学院选出了30名当代青年女作家,并请学者、专家分别撰写了评传,并附录作品与鉴赏,集成了《中国当代青年女作家评传》一书,由中国妇女出版社于1990年6月出版。回望20年前的幼苗和新芽,现在都已经是参天大树。将以此评传为主要依据对入选的当代女作家的总体创作情况进行梳理,分析在她们进入文学殿堂的旅途中表现出的共性的创作特征。     

批判性思维与学生的自主学习

自主学习已成为教育心理学研究的热点问题。自主学习是学习者对学习过程和内容的一种心理反应而形成的自主行为。批判性思维是我们通过主动思考,对所学知识进行个人判断而做出合理决策的思维认知过程。批判性思维是构成自主学习的三个条件:心理发展水平、学习动机及学习策略的基础。所以说批判性思维是自主学习的基础。

新闻是客观性和倾向性的统一,试图呈现客观事实的同时,反映了作者所代表的阶级立场。根植于人类经验的转喻超越了传统的修辞定义而是人类思维和认知世界的基本方式之一,和批评话语分析的结合具有较强的解释力。文章拟从批评转喻的视角考察新闻语篇中转喻所指代的事物或事件的整体内涵,揭示背后深层的意识形态意义。
