Memory of China:5000 Years of Civilization

The Olympic Games is not only a sports event but also offer a great chance for cultural exchange. In celebration of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Capital Museum hosted a grand exhibition Memory of China： 5000 Years of Civilization, aiming to showcase the brilliant Chinese history and culture to the people from the rest of the world.     

The Art of Paper Cutting：Living Fossils of Chinese Civilization

Paper cut is one of the most distinctive folk arts that Chinese women have created and developed over the sweep of Chinese history. The art of paper cutting, originating from the pre-history era and dubbed as ＂living fossils of Chinese civilization＂, has been carried forward for hundreds of years in the vast countryside of China and survived with great vitality until today.     

Bai Ming Patches Up Fragments of Civilization

In the 1980s, he exchanged his grandfather＇s curio collections for a color TV set, a refrigerator and a cassette recorder, the three popular luxuries of the time. He called himself a ＂spendthrift＂ of his family then. In the 1990s, he dug for ceramic fragments in the demolishment site in Ping＇an Avenue and therefore gained the nickname ＂Fragment Bai＂. In 2000, he co founded ＂Mu Ming Tang＂, a museum to display ancient ceramic fragments, and obtained a new title,     

Henan Museum：A Panorama of Chinese Civilization

Henan, located in the heart of China, is known as one of the most important birthplaces of Chinese civilization. A long history and numerous ancient sites and monuments have gained her reputation as ＂a natural museum of history＂. Founded in 1927, Henan Museum boasts large collections, thanks to the province＇s endowed geographical location and rich resources in cultural heritage.

Yuanmingyuan： Garden of Perfect Brightness

Yuanmingyuan, known in China as the garden of perfect brightness, is located in the western suburb of Beijing where there is rich water resources and green mountains and hills. During the reign of Qing Emperor Kangxi [1661-1722], the Everlasting Spring Garden was built on ruins of a Ming Dynasty garden and completed in 1690. The garden served as a summer palace where the emperor escaped the summer heat and handled court affairs.
