听写是一种最方便使用的测试形式,它能反映一个人所学语言知识的真实水平和对语言系统规则的掌握程度.因此,听写作为一种新的测试形式运用在各类题型包括运用在英语四、六级新题型中.这篇文章的目的,就是试图提醒教师们在英语教学中注意运用听写这种简便易行的方法,以获得更好的教学效果.     

课堂的困境

基础教育课堂的困境主要表现在两个方面:一是课堂上学生的精力与兴趣不能适应高难度、高速度的教学内容与单一乏味的教学方法。主要原因在于学生的家庭作业量大,作习时间晚,睡眠严重不足。二是教师的课堂教学方法单一陈旧,不能适应基础教育课程改革的需要,不能适应学生主体性发展的需要。主要原因在于教师在教学方法的变革与探索方面缺乏相应的引导与机制保障,教师仍以不变的方法应对变化着的学生与变化的内容。因为学生睡眠不足,因为教师教学方法单一,课堂就成了低效的课堂,而且还形成了恶性的循环。构建高效课堂必须双管齐下,不仅在减轻学生的课业负担上做文章,而且要在课堂教学方法变革中唱好戏。

A Discrepancy between An Advocacy of Group Work and the Reality of Its Poor Implementation ELT Classrooms of Junior High Schools in Mainland China

The paper investigates how group work was implemented in English teaching classrooms in a junior high school of Mainland China as a case study. The research data was collected by classroom observations, a survey of the students and interviews with the classroom teachers. The research finds a mismatch between an advocacy of group work and the reality of its poor implementation. It has implications on English curriculum innovation and the advocacy of group work in ELT classrooms in mainland China.

The Role of Play in Secondary English Classrooms

Michael Young’s notion of powerful knowledge is attractive to many: to teachers wishing the best for disadvantaged students, to neoliberal governments that continually stress the need for teachers and students to improve their performance. This essay takes issue with this understanding of education. Firstly, it shows how classrooms are mediated by larger social and political contexts, arguing that the exchanges within classrooms are always inflected by the values and aspirations that students bring into class. No classroom can be treated as a neutral site, as though it exists apart from the conflicts and debates that occur within the larger society. Secondly, it shows how, through role-play, students are able to grapple with the social issues with which they and their communities are faced. Set in a classroom in Ramallah, the essay argues that through role-play and dialogue, students are able to activate their own prior knowledge in powerful ways that allow them to gain insight into their world.

The Play-Literacy Interface in Full-day Kindergarten Classrooms

The increasing accountability framework in Kindergarten education has put pressure on teachers to ensure that students reach certain literacy milestones before proceeding to the subsequent grade. One result of this shift is a tension between an emphasis on academic learning and the use of developmentally appropriate practices, such as play. However, there is evidence that play can be an effective context for literacy development. This study investigated the enacted integration of literacy learning and play-based pedagogies. Semi-structured interviews with 12 teachers who taught using a play-based Kindergarten program revealed differences in their beliefs about the role of play for literacy learning. Two groups of teachers emerged from the data analysis. The play and development group. Consisted of five teachers who dichotomized play and learning while the integrated play and learning group consisted of seven teachers who combined play and learning. Teachers in the play and development group expressed the concept that play may not be the best approach for literacy learning and were less likely to integrate the two. Teachers in the integrated play and learning group believed play was important for children’s literacy learning and articulated a range of strategies for integration. Classroom observations of children’s play showed evidence of more literacy-play integration by students in the integrated play and learning group. Teachers in this group were also more likely to become involved in children’s play, which supported children’s literacy engagement during play. Although there were differences in play-literacy integration between the groups, all teachers expressed challenges associated with implementing a play-based learning program.
