This paper utilises consumer responses in evaluating certain aspects of a chemistry programme in a Nigerian University. It attempted to map out significant objectives of the programme, the courses most liked, courses least liked, and the qualities of these courses and their lecturers. All registered students in the programme made up the population of the study, out of which one hundred and eight returned usable questionnaires. The data set was analysed using means, standard deviations, and a likeness index. The significant objectives were those related to practical work, followed by those dealing with the world of work. The courses most liked were those with a high practical component while those least liked had a large theoretical background and/or called for many mathematical skills. The implications of the study are highlighted.  相似文献

本文从组织理论的角度总结出德国大学在组织结构和决策机制两方面的特点,并在此基础上分析了目前大学改革所面临的问题和困难。本文的分析表明,德国大学作为“专家组织”,其“分散式”组织结构和现有决策机制中的“决策壁垒”,是改革问题产生的两个重要根源。  相似文献

During the late 1960s the United Kingdom was one of many countries which faced a potential educational crisis arising from a growing demand for post‐secondary education linked with inadequate resources for its conventional provision.

“Distance learning” techniques, providing an alternative form of study based on multi‐media methods outside formal educational systems, have emerged in response to this new demand.

Within the sector of higher education the Open University of the United Kingdom is one of the most comprehensive distance learning systems.

Many requests have been made to the University for information on distance education and for advice and assistance in establishing similar ventures elsewhere. In response to these developments the University Senate has created recently a Centre for International Co‐operation and Services (CICS).

We give below information on the main functions of this Centre within the framework of the Open University activities.  相似文献

The purpose of this study in college student culture was to determine whether students entering different types of postsecondary institutions have value systems and/or personality characteristics which differ according to the type of institution they select An assessment of the attitudes and traits students bring with them to college was made at a comprehensive state university, a technical institute, and a community college.

The 16 Personality Factors Test of the Institute for Personality and Ability Testing (16 PF of the IPAT) was administered to 269 students in selected freshman level mathematics classes at the three schools. Individual factor scores were used to compute group means for each type of school on the 16 personality factors. The t test applied to differences in group means revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) among groups on several factors. The results support the hypothesis that student personality factors are related to the type of college selected.

If further research as recommended by the authors reinforces these findings, there are implications for many areas of the educational experience; e.g., college selection, programming activities, choosing instructional methods, counseling.  相似文献

我们认同当今世界政治、经济和文化的全球性事实 ,即不否认全球性的内在逻辑与民族国家社会结构调整、制度和文化变迁间存在着一定的相关性。但对于全球化本身存在的意识形态倾向却不能不加以警惕 ,因为在一个作为现代性的延伸而不是超越的全球性时代 ,民族国家的整体利益依旧是第一位的 ,这是作为一个政治、利益和文化意义共同体的国家在全球格局中免于被边缘化的前提 ,也是缓解共同体内部不断加剧的张力、保证社会持续稳定健康发展的必备条件。由此 ,从民族国家利益角度来反省全球化语境中大学的立场、大学与民族国家新的关系构型 ,对于理解所谓后现代大学的本质和功能特征 ,具有丰富的理论价值和政策实践意义  相似文献

In an effort to draw conclusions as to the relative level and quality of training of university heads in western Europe and in the United States, the author has examined the results of two surveys, one of European and one of American heads of universities. He has concluded that as a general rule the average European university head has achieved a more rigorous level of training than has hi3 American counterpart. He has also concluded that the selection procedure for a European head of university is usually more democratic that that employed in the selection of an American head of university.  相似文献

关于全球化对高等教育的影响,已经有许多讨论了。有人认为,全球化、互联网与科学共同体可以使各国在知识相互依存的新时代,在高等教育这一竞技场获得平等的机会。有人则宣称,全球化不但意味着世界性的不平等,而且会导致大学“麦当劳化”。也有人认为,当前高等教育所面临的压力,从高等教育大众化到私立高等教育的增长,都是全球化的结果。在这些假设中,有些是正确的、符合实际的,但是也存在不少误解。本文的目的在于“揭示”高等教育全球化与国际化的真实状况,着重讨论全球化对高等教育的一些影响方式。本文特别关注的是:全球化在怎样影响着发展中国家,特别是那些在未来几十年面临着高等教育规模扩展的国家。  相似文献

Finland has responded to the educational needs of its aging population with the development of its version of the University of the Third Age. This article traces the creation of the University of the Third Age in Finland from seeds sown in France and England during the 1970s. The unique features of Finland's cultural hybrid University of the Third Age (U3A) are described from existing literature and field research data collected for this study. In addition, the educational interests and activities of a sample of older learners from five University of the Third Age campuses in Finland are described. Emerging organizational issues associated with growth in student populations and credentialing concerns are noted and briefly discussed.  相似文献

At the University of Queensland staff have had the opportunity since 1982 to make use of a standardised questionnaire to students to get feedback on their teaching. The questionnaire was developed and is organised in such a way that it may be used in promotion applications, as evidence of teaching ability in the annual appraisal of probationary staff by the head of department, and for personal feedback. After one year of operation interviews were held with all those who had used the questionnaire. Their attitude to evaluation of teaching was overwhelmingly positive and differed sharply from the way they perceived their department's and the University's attitude to be. Staff, on the whole, acted on the feedback received from their students by changing the course organisation and content, aspects of classroom teaching or their attitude. Many felt more confident about their teaching as a result of the evaluation, and for many the questionnaires were the only source of feedback and encouragement.  相似文献
