Is It Always Worth the Trip? The contribution of museum and gallery educational programmes to classroom art education

Drawing on observations of classroom art practice and visits to one museum and two galleries and on interviews with teachers and museum and gallery educators, this article examines the interactive relationship between school art education and museum and gallery visits. It studies: the ways primary teachers use such visits for art teaching purposes; and the reasons for the existing limitations in incorporating museum or gallery visits into school art education despite the wide acknowledgement of their educational value. The findings suggest the presence of two models of educational programmes which appear to influence differently the ‘three‐part unit’ of preliminary work, visit to the institution and follow‐up activities in the classroom.     

Secondary School Art Teachers' Concepts of Teaching in Hong Kong

Recently, there has been considerable concern among art educators and cultural policy makers to promote art education in Hong Kong. The launch of the new curriculum of a discipline-based character in 1996 generated debate in the art education circle of Hong Kong. There were diverse opinions on the rationale for teaching art. Concern was expressed about the present constraints of art teaching related to teachers' ability and school administration poses another important issue that seems to inhibit further developments. This paper reports part of the findings of a study on art teachers' concepts of teaching. It explores the concepts of about 20 secondary art teachers in Hong Kong. Several categories of teaching are derived from interviews: aesthetic development, moral development, intellectual development, expression and therapy, and intellectual and aesthetic development. A scheme is developed which can be used to analyze teachers' concepts as education in or through art on a continuum from subject to learner centred.     

关于高职公共艺术教育的若干思考

公共艺术教育是高校实施素质教育的重要渠道。文章结合高职教育和艺术学科的特点,对课程性质和培养目标、教学模式的多样化拓展以及艺术理论与实践的相互交融进行了探讨。     

艺术实践教学活动的探索与创新——以成都大学艺术学院为例

艺术实践教学活动是进行艺术专业教育教学的重点,是理论教学与社会实践相结合的一个重要途径和过程,是其他任何教学形式所不能替代的,是提高艺术专业学生的综合素质、增强学生社会实践能力的一个重要环节,是培养艺术类专业学生创新意识的重要方式。文章从质量工程建设的高度出发,对学院艺术实践的意义、现状、挑战、思路等方面进行分析和研究,以期为艺术教学和管理提供借鉴和指导。     

信息时代老年学习者的教育教学创新路径

在抗击新冠肺炎疫情期间,为了让老年人继续老年大学的学习,信息技术被推到了前台,初步展现了“互联网+”教育的“在线学习”模式。这让平日不受重视、处于边缘化状态、难以进入老年大学主流教学阵地的在线教育崭露头角,加快了教育教学环境变革,引发了新的教育教学诉求。教育教学创新既要满足信息时代老年学习者的意愿,为其提供丰富多样的学习活动,构建起更为网络化的知识体系。同时,又要妥善应对在信息技术融入老年教育课堂时,不同的内容载体给学习者带来的行为差异,导致学习者对教师、课堂和教育教学有了更高的期盼。为此,提出信息技术推动教育教学创新的路径,以期为教师课堂教学提供参照指南。     

高职生态式艺术设计教学模式

生态式艺术教育是由滕守尧先生首先提出,意指一种充分体现和不断运用生态智慧的艺术教育。高职生态式艺术设计教学模式是将生态式教育引入高职艺术设计教育中,本文结合《书籍设计与制作》课程教学改革实践,对高职生态式艺术设计教学模式从理论依据、教学目标、操作程序等方面进行介绍。     

浅谈国内高等音乐教育中常见问题及对策

音乐是一门情感的艺术,音乐教育以音乐艺术为手段,音乐教学要突出音乐学科的特点,这是由音乐课程的本质决定的。本文从高校开展传统音乐课程的意义以及一些教学教法的可行性研究等方面阐述高校的音乐教育。以音乐审美为导向,突出美育性能,尊重多元文化,处理好共性与个性的关系,面向全体学生,体现人人参与是高校音乐课程设置必须遵循的原则。     

Integrating art into science education: a survey of science teachers’ practices

ABSTRACT

Numerous case studies suggest that integrating art and science education could engage students with creative projects and encourage students to express science in multitude of ways. However, little is known about art integration practices in everyday science teaching. With a qualitative e-survey, this study explores the art integration of science teachers (n?=?66). A pedagogical model for science teachers’ art integration emerged from a qualitative content analysis conducted on examples of art integration. In the model, art integration is characterised as integration through content and activities. Whilst the links in the content were facilitated either directly between concepts and ideas or indirectly through themes or artefacts, the integration through activity often connected an activity in one domain and a concept, idea or artefact in the other domain with the exception of some activities that could belong to both domains. Moreover, the examples of art integration in everyday classroom did not include expression of emotions often associated with art. In addition, quantitative part of the survey confirmed that integration is infrequent in all mapped areas. The findings of this study have implications for science teacher education that should offer opportunities for more consistent art integration.     

ARTEMIS: Reinvigorating History and Theory in Art and Design Education

ARTEMIS (Art Educational Multiplayer Interactive Space) is an online multi‐user virtual environment that is designed around the objects, artefacts, philosophies, personalities and critical discourses of the histories and theories of art and design. Conceived as a means of reinvigorating art history and theory education in the digital age, ARTEMIS addresses the specific teaching and learning needs of a new generation of art and design students in higher education. This article is a case study that addresses the second phase of the testing and design development of ARTEMIS. It builds on the findings of the initial phase, which involved the development of the ‘proof of concept’ for an online virtual world and game designed for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Art and Design at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Drawing on a test trial and student response survey, this article assesses whether virtual environments like ARTEMIS can generate new life in art and design history, augment the teaching and learning mix in art and design higher education, and foster new modes of active engagement amongst students.     

The Effectiveness of an Initial Teacher Training Partnership in Preparing Students to Teach Art in the Primary School

Recent government reform of initial teacher education has increased teachers’ responsibility for training students in schools, bringing about some fundamental changes in the professional relationship between the schools, higher education institutions (HEIs), teachers and students. This paper reports on primary undergraduate student teachers’ and their class teachers’ perceptions of school-based training to teach art. Class teachers were interviewed about their preparedness to train students and questionnaires and interviews were used to gauge students’ views of the effectiveness of university-based courses and the support given to them by teachers. The findings indicate that teachers were able to support students in matters of classroom management and resources but that they were mostly unable to assist them in developing subject knowledge and understanding of art teaching and learning. This raises concerns about teachers’ subject knowledge and their confidence in training students. Our findings suggest that there is significant room for improvement in the partnership arrangements between schools and HEIs in order to better support students’ teaching of art.

Reclaiming the art of teaching

This paper explores the art and craft of teaching in higher education. It presents a model of the relationship between art and craft drawn from the author's theoretical and empirical work, and provides examples from the higher education context to illustrate the model. It discusses the characteristics of teaching as art and craft and critiques the move towards standardisation and conformity in favour of originality, creativity and innovation. It suggests that to see teaching as art is more holistic, satisfying and transformative than to see it as craft. It argues for reclaiming the art of teaching and provides strategies for encouraging and supporting artistic teaching.     

高师美术教育价值取向与教育功能的全面凸现
