Scott Wasinger, Senior Director of Sales, eBooks & eAudiobooks at EBSCO Publishing, presented eBooks on EBSCOhost at the MidSouth eResource Symposium held at Mississippi State University Libraries on August 11, 2011. Wasinger briefly talked about how EBSCO Publishing acquired NetLibrary and the changes EBSCO made in order to create the platform/integration into EBSCOhost, which included expanded business models, content growth, and collection development options. Wasinger provided information on EBSCOadmin, EBSCO's lease and enhanced PDA models, downloading e-book options, introduction of the ePub format, and EBSCOhost Collection Manager. 相似文献

电子书和电子阅读的出现及快速普及使图书馆界面临着挑战、挫折和机遇等不确定性因素,电子书生态系统和整个图书生态系统也在发生变化。笔者参加美国图书馆协会开展的有关数字内容以及向电子书转变这一进程如何改变图书馆等重要问题的研究,与多家出版商进行会谈,并对数字资源和电子书的使用情况进行调研。法律问题仍然是数字领域最重要的问题。在数字资源和电子书利用中,信息获取是最重要的问题之一。美国公共图书馆也积极采取策略应对各种变化和挑战,并始终坚持其发展目标,即在提高民众受教育水平、培养对阅读的喜爱以及保证公民的知情权方面发挥重要作用。此外,开放获取、版权和合理使用的法律裁决、美国数字公共图书馆、全球化知识获取的潜在可能性等问题是目前美国图书馆界讨论的热点话题。 相似文献

The importance of customer feedback and the value that it adds to product development and enhancements cannot be overstated. Customer feedback also plays a key role in the development of online resources. But how do you merge customer feedback and the development of new proposals for product design? The balance between customer feedback and strategic direction is something EBSCO strives for in every build of new product enhancements. Many of the company's most important products and interface enhancements can trace their origins back (at least in part) to customer feedback or customer‐based advisory boards. By keeping an open channel of communication between customers and developers, EBSCO has positioned itself as a global leader in matching ongoing product development to current customer need. Simmons College Library conducted in-person and remote usability testing to observe how students retrieve full text when using Library Search, its discovery service system powered by EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Testing was conducted as a collaborative study with a consultant associated with EBSCO Information Services User Research Group. This testing found that students expect direct access to full text, have an unfavorable impression of Interlibrary Loan (ILL), and are unsure, based on terminology, which links provide direct access to full text. Steps taken by the library in response to the findings include local customization of EDS, improvements to ILL messaging, updates to user education regarding full text formats and terminology, and requests to EBSCO to update terminology to support users’ direct access to full text. Study findings also validated decisions the library made during the initial set up of its discovery service system. 相似文献

ABSTRACT The economic downturn and continuing budget concerns have libraries, publishers, and vendors making strategic changes as they seek to provide a high-level of services at a time when uncertainty continues to dominate planning and development. Creative thinking has become the norm as organizations seek to challenge long-held views and uncover and implement needed changes. Librarians, publishers, and vendors have all experienced a period of assessment, strategic review, and reaction as a result of the continued evolution from a print-based model to one dominated by electronic dissemination of scholarly information and the new role eBooks promise to play. This article addresses some of the important actions taken by librarians, publishers and vendors to cope with changes forced by both the economy and budget pressures, by the continued migration of scholarly resources to electronic formats, and by current and planned eBook activities and new eBooks models. Should law school faculty integrate electronic casebooks into their courses? After describing the eTextbook market forces, this article posits that digital casebooks will not only be in great demand, but also can assist in lowering the cost of legal education while creating more practice-ready students. Additionally, technological improvements in eCasebook platforms will address the unique needs of law students, thereby increasing acceptance and usage. The article concludes with a brief survey of current eCasebook alternatives and an argument for the creation of value-added open source, open access digital casebooks with assistance from the law library. 相似文献

This introduction highlights the speakers and their topics presented at the Libraries eResource & Emerging Technologies Summit (formerly known as the MidSouth eResource Symposium) held at Mississippi State University (MSU) Libraries on August 3, 2012. The Summit was co-sponsored by EBSCO Information Services, North American Serials Interest Group's Continuing Education Committee, and MSU Libraries. Electronic resources continue to consume library budgets while remaining critical for today's researchers and students. Libraries must demonstrate their value and continually remind their stakeholders of the importance of these electronic resources and just how vital access to this digital information is. This year's Summit presentations focused on the acquisition, access, and management of eResources, and provided attendees with knowledge of new and emerging technologies related to electronic resources and the digital environment. 相似文献
