This article presents the concept of electronic record as articulated by the first phase of the InterPARES (International research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems) Project (1999–2001) and discusses it in light of the findings of the second phase of the Project (2002–2006). While InterPARES 1 focused on records produced and/or maintained in databases and document management systems, InterPARES 2 examined records produced and/or maintained in interactive, experiential and dynamic environments. The authors describe the characteristics of these environments and of the entities found in them in the course of case studies conducted on systems used for carrying out artistic, scientific and e-government activities, and propose the new concept of record that InterPARES 2 is eleborating, which expands on that formulated by InterPARES 1.The authors would like to thank InterPARES 2 research assistant Randy Preston for his careful editing and constructive criticisms. 文章在概述中日美高校图书馆在残疾读者服务方面现状的基础上,对三个国家高校图书馆的政策环境建设、设施设备建设、服务制度建设、服务资源建设进行了对比研究,认为我国高校图书馆与日美高校图书馆相比,残疾人读者服务存在着较大的差距或不足,在具体的实践工作中,除制定更加详尽的政策外,高校图书馆还需转变服务理念,在馆舍设施、辅助设备、馆员素质、服务资源等方面加强建设。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article examines the current phenomenon of blogging from an archival point of view. To better understand the nature of blogs, the author conducted an informal survey of bloggers at Princeton Theological Seminary. The results of this survey show that blogs represent a dynamic but ephemeral new form of electronic record and writing practice. This article concludes that blogs have archival value and that archivists should proactively preserve them along with other electronic records.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The digitization of library materials has had a tremendous impact on libraries. By using the Internet, readers can access digital library materials from any place in the world. The BMCC Library started several programs to provide more digital materials to its patrons in the forms of electronic books, periodicals, full-text materials, and webpage links to other databases. A test program began in spring 2002 for course reserves, and electronic archiving was about to start in fall 2001. This paper describes a survey conducted to measure the response to the implementation of ERes for digitizing course reserves.  相似文献

Patrons of map collections often have specific, geographically-based, requests for maps and the information they provide. Map librarians can often meet these needs through personal knowledge of the scope of their collections. For larger collections, this method is unsustainable. This article, therefore, seeks to begin a discussion on how coding could be used to expand the ability of our patrons’ online information seeking methods to meet their information needs.  相似文献

The current technology models for library request services present significant challenges for the user’s experience from discovery to delivery. Applying user-centered design and e-commerce modalities may allow libraries to create more engaging and useful request services for all users. The authors suggest six design principles to improve user’s experience with library request systems and offer practical applications of these principles based upon two case studies at The New School Libraries and New York University Libraries. Both cases utilize APIs currently available, suggesting that libraries may leverage current models to create a better experience for their users.  相似文献

本研究以近20年来国内外公共图书馆的部分纲领性文件、80家公共图书馆网站信息及我国公共图书馆评估后的总结材料为文本,对国内外公共图书馆的使命陈述和服务项目进行了内容分析。研究发现,近年来我国出现的公共图书馆纲领性文献对当前我国公共图书馆的使命(或任务)基本上都省略不表,公共图书馆界更多地是从国外公共图书馆使命中借鉴发展方向和指导思想;但截止目前,这种借鉴还没有影响到图书馆服务内容的设计.文章根据这一研究结果,提出了若干值得我国图书馆界深思的问题。  相似文献

To meet the rapid evolution of visual media and changing patron expectations, Brigham Young University's Harold B. Lee Library created Byugle, a device to stream videos to their users. ABSTRACT

New York University Abu Dhabi Library has developed new strategies to increase efficiency in technical services processing between units based in New York and Abu Dhabi. This case study discusses the challenges specific to the international context and the methods used to overcome them, increase speed processing, and ultimately improve patron access to materials. A key factor in successful implementation was the strategic decision made by library administration to provide the newly-hired technical services librarian with three months of cross-training in New York before permanently moving to Abu Dhabi. A specific model of communication was put into action leading to the resolution of many problems and inefficiencies. In addition, a broader study of global communication tools was conducted and resulted in best practices for other library units within the university network. [目的/意义]了解和比较中美一流大学图书馆移动服务的发展情况,有利于更好地促进中国大学图书馆移动服务的提升。[方法/过程]采用网站访问调查和内容分析的方法,对中国137所"双一流"大学和美国排名前100名大学的图书馆进行调研。通过对移动服务类型、移动网站提供的内容、移动参考咨询服务、社交媒体、移动预约服务以及移动打印服务等方面进行调查分析,比较中美大学图书馆移动服务的差异。[结果/结论]加强对移动网站的开发,充分发挥微信公众号的服务功能,增加个人馆员和教学参考资源等服务以促进用户对图书馆的利用,加快发展移动参考咨询、移动预约和移动打印等贴合用户日常需求的服务。  相似文献

2015年澳大利亚维多利亚州发布VERS 3 版标准,其封装策略从电子文件和元数据的一体式XML文件封装,变为元数据XML文件和电子文件内容的分体式封装,配套的元数据规范、长期保存格式标准、数字签名机制也都发生变化。本文分析了这些变化,并对电子文件元数据封装策略的定位和应用进行了思考。VERS元数据封装是一项面向电子文件长期保存的综合性策略,在借鉴应用时不宜仅视为一个单项技术,应根据需要确定采用何种电子文件元数据封装策略,并在应用过程中注重其简便性、灵活性和效率。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The Library of Congress Subject Headings have been criticized for containing biased subject headings. One leading critic has been Sanford Berman, whose 1971 monograph Prejudices and Antipathies: A Tract on the LC Subject Heads Concerning People (P&A), listed a number of objectionable headings and proposed remedies. In the decades since P&A was first published, many of Berman's suggestions have been implemented, while other headings remain unchanged. This paper compiles all of Berman's suggestions and tracks the changes that have occurred; a brief analysis of the remaining areas of bias is included.  相似文献
