外在主义是戴维森晚期思想的重要主题之一。戴维森的外在主义同奎因的彻底翻译理论具有密切的关系,其基本主张是：我们自己同外在世界、他人之间存在着因果联系,这种外在性的关系以及由此形成的三角架构构成了知识的基础。三角架构是思想成为可能的必要条件,这是戴维森的外在主义与语言理解或知识的关系的真正内涵。戴维森的外在主义具有驳斥怀疑论的功能,它是以杜绝怀疑论发生的可能性来达到这一目的的。

Novel applications of information retrieval to the storage and management of computer models

Decision-making is often supported by computer-based models. To become a truly valuable corporate resource, such models must be easy to locate, share, and reuse. We describe a technical approach to model management aimed at establishing a database of computer models which can either be reused without modification or modified and composed with other models to assist with novel decisions.We describe a formalism for representing models and discuss various types of queries supported by the formalism. We discuss important research issues that must be addressed for successful application of the formalism to model management. Further, we argue that the field of information retrieval is the natural referent discipline for the study of model storage and retrieval and advance the argument that retrieving computer based models has an important connection to text retrieval based on documents' structure.     

Variational analysis of electrical networks

A unified variational approach to network analysis is presented. From an initial classification of variables, expressed in topological terms, Lagrangian energy functions are generated which may be used in Hamilton's principles. This topological formalism allows extension into nonconservative networks and enables the complete retention of classical formalism in all networks.By using a topological version of the Brayton-Moser mixed potential function, several power variational principles are developed. These principles lead to comparison of the roles played by classical energy and power state functions in analytical mechanics.

Radiation symmetries of antenna arrays

A new class of antenna array lattices is examined and classified by using the formalism of the space point groups. The space symmetries of the current excitations and their resulting patterns are investigated. A new procedure for designing orthogonal antenna field patterns is developed.     

Modelling and Passivity Based Control of switched systems from bond graph formalism: Application to multicellular converters

This paper addresses the modelling and control of switched systems with Boolean inputs. A generalization of Passivity Based Control (PBC) is proposed and fitted to bond graph formalism. The state equations of the equivalent average model are first deduced from the original bond graph using the notion of commutation cells and then interpreted according to Port Controlled Hamiltonian formalism. The whole approach is presented in a formal way. This method is then applied on a multicellular serial converter, which is widespread in power systems and of growing interest. The application of PBC associated to a modelling approach using commutation cells on a non-trivial example shows its efficiency to determine a generic controller, the number of elementary cells being considered as a parameter.     

Reproducing kernel resolution space and its applications—II

This paper extends the concept of a reproducing kernel resolution space to a Banach space setting. The resultant reproducing kernel resolution space, however, remains a Hilbert space thereby permitting a number of problems in mathematical system theory to be transformed from Banach space to Hilbert space. Particular emphasis is given to the study of Banach space valued random variables and the scattering operator formalism for an electric network.

Mechanical analysis and ultimate boundary estimation of the chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor

In this paper, we present the dimensionless form of a chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Its Kolmogorov formalism, which can be used to describe dissipative-forced dynamical systems, shows that there exist four types of torques, i.e., inertial torque, internal torque, dissipative torque and external torque. The mechanical analysis of the dimensionless PMSM is given for five different combinations of these torques. Numerical simulations show that the occurrence of chaos depends on these four types of torques. Moreover, the ultimate boundary estimation of the dimensionless chaotic PMSM is also investigated theoretically and numerically.
