Recently I was reminded of a story which my mother swears is trus (though she doesn't call me Bobby muchanymore):Back in 1958,when I was just past four years old,my parents gave me a young parakeet.My mother determinedthat our parakeet would learn to talk,and to this end sat at the microphone of a borrowed tape recorder for a full 1/2hour,saying over and over again:“Pretty bird!Pretty bird!Pretty bird!Pretty bird!...”and so on.The resultingtaped message was played for our parakeet at least once per day.For weeks.One of Mom's friends often dropped by for an early morning cup of coffee,and was well aware (due to the in-cessant taped message) of her attempts to teach our bird to talk.And one day,while the friend was at the kitchentable,the bird began to speak,but very quietly and indistinctly.She excitedly called my mother into the room,andtold her that the bird was trying to say something.The two women carefully leaned toward the parakeet's cage,andheard him say,very clearly now-“Bobby!Stop that!”

Teachers are just like our parents.They spend much time on our studies.They always want us to learn as much as possible.Because of this,we always have little time to relax. My First Part-time Job

Everyone, I wonder, may cherish a dream when he or she was in the childhood. Today is Saturday. It is sunny and warm. I went shopping with my good friend. On our way to the supermarket, we saw a purse on the road. We picked it up. There was some money and an ID card in it. We went to a police station with the purse. Then we gave it to a policeman. When I went back home, I told my parents about it. They were very happy and said, "you're our good child. We are proud of you!" I am very happy today.     

Patsy Beckett—My Australian Friend

I once stayed at St Paul's Grammar School in Sydney, Australia, as a visiting teacher for two months. From the moment I got there till the time I left, I seldom felt lonely and homesick. I know that's because Australian people are friendly to us and willing to help us. My friend Patsy Beckett is one of them.Patsy, (Mrs. Beckett) is the Principal's Personal Assistant at the school. Though she is busy all the time, she has arranged my visit in great detail. The first day I came to school she took me to my homestay's house herself, and there I found some beautiful flowers and nice fruit on the desk in my room. I thought this was a nice gesture of friendship.
