The undergraduate electrical engineering program at The Johns Hopkins University has undergone extensive revision. The most striking revision has been in the laboratory program. Laboratory courses which are distinct from the lecture courses have been developed. These laboratory courses embrace the fields of basic and advanced electrical measurements, transducers, passive circuits, active networks, communications, microwaves, materials, computers, servomechanisms, and energy conversion. The experiments in each one of these fields are designed to give the student insight into both the basic and advanced concepts involved. The sequence of presentation of the experiments is chosen to allow the most complete coverage of a subject as possible, based on the order in which the electrical engineering lecture courses are taken. The use of laboratory manuals, notebooks, reports, and examinations has been given careful thought and some significant ideas have been evolved with regard to their use in establishing a successful laboratory course.  相似文献

Conventional circuit analysis courses are generally taught by electrical engineering instructors in a proprietary fashion. The underlying reasons for this state of affairs are history and utility; circuit theory was developed from a consideration of electric circuits and found its most important area of application there. Intrinsically, however, circuit theory is no more "electrical" than arithmetic is "financial." This paper explains the basis for an abstract circuit course "abstract" in the sense that the circuit connotation is not necessarily electrical but may, with equal validity, be mechanical, acoustical, thermal, etc. Generalized circuit variables are classed as either potential or flow variables, and generalized circuit parameters are then categorized according to their behavioral equations (Hooke's Law, Ohm's Law, Fourier's Law, etc.). A simple systematic method of finding a circuit diagram for a system composed of such parameters is shown.  相似文献

The recent developments in this area in terms of curricular changes in the Electrical Engineering program have been described and evaluated. A previous required course, which covered electric machinery in some detail, has been replaced by a more general course which studies the principles of electromechanical energy conversion and the control of the flow of electrical energy by both static and motional devices. In addition, a new experimental two-semester course has been developed which integrates the study of energy conversion and control devices into a study of systems and the role of these devices in meeting system specifications.  相似文献

集成电路技术的飞速发展,对数字集成电路后端课程的教学方法和手段提出新的要求。为适应这种要求,提出将现代电子设计自动化(EDA)技术纳入教学实践全过程的新思路。基于数字集成电路的理论和方法,针对集成电路后端设计及其工程实践课程前期教学存在的不足,通过引入EDA技术的方式对改善课程和实验教学效果进行探讨。近几年的教学实践表明,应用EDA技术对数字集成电路后端实验课程教学进行改革,对激发学生的学习兴趣起到积极作用,同时还可加深学生对基本概念的理解和提高学生集成电路设计的动手能力。  相似文献

While circuitry lessons have traditionally been first introduced in late elementary school, they remain challenging conceptually for undergraduates in physics and engineering courses. Seeking to provide a higher quality and earlier introduction to circuitry learning for young children (ages 3–5), this paper investigates the affordances of utilizing the Squishy Circuits toolkit, a circuitry kit that combines circuit components and playdough, as a first introduction. Our study engaged 45 children across three nursery school classrooms in open-ended play with Squishy Circuits toolkits for seven sessions over a period of 2 weeks. Here, we focus on six children in one focal classroom in order to illustrate the concepts that children are developing during play and open exploration with the kits and a range of crafting materials. Findings indicated that the Squishy Circuits toolkit enabled children to explore concepts important to circuitry learning, including current flow, polarity, and connections. Additionally, analysis of whole class conversations before and after the circuitry explorations indicated significant gains in children’s ability to discuss circuitry concepts over the course of the study. Through individual case studies, we illustrate how children enacted these concepts through their play and how the transparency afforded by the toolkit make the big ideas of circuitry visible. This work serves to illustrate how very young children can successfully begin to engage with science topics commonly introduced in later elementary school when those topics are framed through play and discovery with transparent and malleable materials.

The incessant search for unifying concepts in engineering education has, in recent times, stepped up its pace to match the tempo of our scientific and technological progress. Although a single unified curriculum for all engineering problems would indeed be a utopia, there is hope, nevertheless, that certain apparently diverse areas of engineering can be regrouped with emphasis on the basic disciplines underlying them. System theory, which is briefly exposed here, is one such fundamental discipline with its mainsprings in the mathematical model of linear-graph theory. The chief assertion of this paper is that system theory could very well serve as a basis for unifying the areas of 1) circuit theory, 2) circuit aspects of electronics, 3) rotating machinery, 4) elementary statics and dynamics, and 5) system analysis. The ideas presented here are sufficiently supported by the authors' classroom experiences. In the light of the curriculum proposed, certain of the inevitable implications for Canadian electrical engineering are discussed.  相似文献

提出了电子技术基础实验过程中出现的一些误区,分析了实验中的一些实际问题。学生在初做实验阶段往往由于对设备和实际电路不熟,理论与实际不能很好地联系,实验中会出现一些误区,导致结果错误,甚至烧毁元件和电路,使实验无法进行。元器件的应用若不联系实际情况,电路也会出现异常。各种潜在因素都在影响着每个实验。分析和处理好这些误区和问题,才能使学生用好理论知识,不断提高实际动手能力。  相似文献

This paper reports on the development and implementation of an introductory course on electric circuits based on a constructivist model of curriculum development and teaching. Pupil interviews before instruction explored and clarified the range of children's existing ideas and conceptions. A teaching sequence was designed to elicit pupils’ ideas, to challenge these experimentally where they differed from accepted scientific ideas and to encourage discussion and reformulation of ideas. Post‐instruction interviews showed improved pupil understanding of several important basic concepts. The constructivist approach appeared to provide a viable and satisfactory basis for teachers’ classroom decision‐making and for the structuring and sequencing of activities as the course progressed.  相似文献

This study deals with engineering education in the middle-school level. Its focus is instructors’ concerns in teaching design, as well as scaffolding strategies that can help teachers deal with these concerns. Through participatory action research, nine instructors engaged in a process of development and instruction of a curriculum about energy along with engineering design. A 50-h curriculum was piloted during a summer camp for 38 middle-school students. Data was collected through instructors’ materials: observation field notes, daily reflections and post-camp discussions. In addition, students’ artifacts and planning graphical models were collected in order to explore how instructors’ concerns were aligned with students’ learning. Findings indicate three main tensions that reflect instructors’ main concerns: how to provide sufficient scaffolding yet encourage creativity, how to scaffold hands-on experiences that promote mindful planning, and how to scaffold students’ modeling practices. Pedagogical strategies for teaching design that developed through this work are described, as well as the ways they address the National Research Council (A framework for K-12 science education: practices, crosscutting concepts, and core ideas.
