AUTOMATION OF THE TEACHING PROCESS ‐ EXPERIENCE OF ITS APPLICATION AT THE BIELORUSSIAN STATE UNIVERSITY

The possibilities of automating the teaching process are linked to the development of educational technology. The following article written for “Higher Education in Europe” by Drs. A.F. Tcherniavski, A.M. Mukharski, A.I. Tarnopolski from the Byelorussian State University in Minsk (Bielorussian SSR) presents experiences in the application of such a system in university teaching.     

THE INTERNATIONALIZATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR

Arguments that universities must be internationalized in order for them to perform their functions at the highest level of expertise are presented. The situation of the University of Maribor in Slovenia, a constituent republic of Yugoslavia, is described. The current participation of this university in international programmes being limited, suggestions are put forward as to how it might be increased, the programmes themselves being expanded and diversified. The top level university administrators should approach the processes of internationalization in a creative frame of mind.     

大学理念再思考

大学的理念是讨论大学诸问题的前提与关键。大学理念在西方经历了长期的演变,形成博雅教育、专业教育以及研究院制度等模式。19世纪末以来,美国创造性地学习德国的大学制度,开创了多元化高等教育与巨型大学的模式。在思考中国大学理念时有必要借鉴巨型大学的模式,实现多重理念在大学的融合,使大学体现以通识教育为核心的博雅教育理念、以知识创新为目标的研究型大学理念以及以学术为基础的社会服务理念。     

ON THE ESTABUSHMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PEOPLES OF EUROPE

The article is a plea for the establishment and the development of the University of the Peoples of Europe (UPE). As Europe comes together following the end of the post‐Second World War division, it is confronting a number of serious common problems of a kind amenable to solution by the concerted action of academics. The UPE, as a network of existing centres of academic excellence, could be harnessed to solve pan‐European problems of this sort on a pan‐European basis. As a part of its action, it would promote student mobility, but above all, it would facilitate the international movement of professors and advanced researchers. Steps should be taken to enhance the prestige of the participating institutions and to provide for the remuneration of participating academics.
