我国图书馆尚未充分利用私人慈善资本.图书馆界应抓住目前我国慈善事业的发展契机,以合办图书馆分馆的方式,保证私人慈善资本长期稳定的投入.大、中型公立图书馆应主动作为,根据投入、兴趣和影响力三方面因素选择合作对象,通过与慈善人士签订书面协议,形成利用慈善资本的有效监督机制.要坚持公益性、规范化和尊重私人的合作关系,建立人际信任和制度信任相互配合的信任机制,采取对称性互惠的资源配置方式,并成立图书馆私人基金会.同时,在政府和行业层面应进行必要的物质和精神激励,把图书馆事业推向一个广纳私人慈善资本、多方力量积极参与建设的新境界.     

国外图书馆数据监护岗位的设置与需求分析

统计2010年1月1日至2013年1月31日来自ALA JobLIST、ARL Job Announcements、LISjobs.com等招聘网站上的60个数据监护岗位,分析这些岗位的发布机构、岗位名称、所属部门、工作职责、技能要求.根据调研结果,归纳对国内图书馆数据监护岗位的设置与图情教育的5点启示:机构库或学术交流岗位将向数据监护岗位转型;数据监护岗位越来越成为图书馆所需求的岗位;图书馆需要设置新岗位或调配原有馆员参与数据管理服务;开展数据监护教育与培训计划;图情教育课程需体现实际岗位技能需求.     

Materials Used in Historical Scholarship

Citation analysis can be used to determine the kind of materials cited in any history subdiscipline. The history of gardens was chosen as the subdiscipline to be examined. As a field in art history and landscape architecture, garden history constitutes a highly articulated field of scholarly research open to current trends in historical research. A citation study of volume 1, number 1 of the Journal of Garden History reveals patterns of research materials which clearly demonstrate garden history's place in the bibliographic context of materials used in mainstream historical publication. This limited examination can be easily and effectively used by bibliographers in examining materials used in academic historical scholarship.     

Library Book Theft and Audits in University Libraries of Pakistan

Librarians are the custodians of library materials. University libraries have a large number of materials in their collections; these collections have different challenges to maintain their existence and utilization. Security and protection of these resources is a difficult task. Book theft or loss is a phenomenon naturally associated with libraries and librarians. This article is an attempt to provide an overview of existing conditions of theft and loss of library material and to describe a major initiative that has been taken to overcome the situation. This study was designed with survey methodology and circulated to library professionals at 172 university and degree awarding institutions. There were 94 responses (54.65%) received. The study revealed that librarians faced objections from auditors and sometimes paid a penalty for stolen or lost books. The theft and loss of materials are examined critically by university management, library committees, and internal and external auditors. Some library professionals are required to pay from their own pockets for stolen and lost material. However, a few librarians write off library books as per Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC) rule. Research highlighted that most libraries have not used technology such as RFID, 3M, or EM Tags for the security of books. An effective technological book security system minimizes loss and provides relief for librarians from audit issues and financial penalties.

[目的/意义] 为解决高校图书推荐过程中面临的“数据稀疏”和“冷启动”问题,研究表明：优化读者评价矩阵和相似度模型是提高图书推荐质量的关键。[方法/过程] 提出一种协同过滤改进方法,以图书分类为项目生成用户评价矩阵,并考虑借阅方式、借阅时间和图书相似度对用户兴趣度的影响,优化矩阵中的样本数据;同时,在计算读者相似度时融入读者特征和图书特征。[结果/结论] 实验结果表明,该方法可有效解决“数据稀疏”和“冷启动”问题,显著降低计算量。与基本协同过滤和聚类改进的协同过滤方法相比,无论是在推荐准确率还是在用户满意率上都有较大的提高,综合推荐效果更好。

[目的/意义]古籍编目是古籍保护的核心内容和基础工作,"中华古籍保护计划"实施13年来,我国图书馆古籍编目工作取得了很大进展,同时也面临很多问题,这些问题应当引起国家层面的足够重视,及时采取有力对策,尽早予以解决。[方法/过程]通过对这些问题逐一进行分析,挖掘深层次的原因,提出解决的路径和方法。[结果/结论]我国古籍保护的下一个工作重点应该转移到对古籍编目的特别关注上来,要改进和完善全国性的古籍编目和发布系统,加强对古籍编目人员的重点培养,加强古籍编目的学术研究和学科建设,保证古籍编目工作持之以恒地高质量进行。

Hidden Leadership in Small Special Libraries

“The Specialist” addresses the administration of special libraries, however, identifying the administrator of a small special library is problematic. In these small libraries within organizations, the librarian often works alone and the library is overseen by a non-librarian manager. In these cases, it is not as easy to identify or define the library's administrator as it would be in a public or academic library, or even a larger special library. This column introduces a model where the administration of small special libraries is a collaboration between librarians and non-librarian managers. In this model, information professionals exercise hidden leadership and management skills without leading a staff or possessing a management title. The column also suggests ways information professionals without explicit management responsibilities in the workplace can develop these skills and apply them in their jobs.
