略论民国时期图书馆际互借   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1  
民国时期,中国现代图书馆事业的推动者们广泛宣传馆际互借的意义,通过图书馆协会制订馆际互借办法,推动开展馆际互借;经过图书馆员的努力,民国政府在图书馆法规中,确定了馆际互借作为图书馆工作职责的内容;从图书馆界学者的批评、图书馆借阅统计等方面可以看出,民国时期的馆际互借总体规模处于较低水平;民国时期图书馆界开展馆际互借的基本特点主要有:谨慎选择服务对象;局限于本地区;图书馆协会对开展馆际互借有一定程度的推动;抗战爆发使整个图书馆事业陷入低谷,馆际互借因此失去开展的基础,直至新中国成立,民国时期的馆际互借再也没有出现新的高潮。  相似文献

From one library in 1995 to 884 in 2008, the number of Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) libraries in Latin American and the Caribbean has grown significantly. They are presently active in 27 countries and territories. The objective of this study is to provide data on one aca-demic medical library's experience with first and second year medical students’ use of interlibrary loan at the Indiana University School of Medicine–Northwest, Steven C. Beering Medical Library. The results of a study of 18 years of data show a substantial decline of interlibrary loans by medical students. Several factors, including the unique problem-based learning curriculum and the availability of online journals, which has expanded a small medical library's collection, may be responsible for the reduction of interlibrary loan. This study suggests the need for collection development librarians to understand their medical school curriculum and to invest in the most useful electronic journals for their medical students’ education needs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In June of 2001, the University of California Libraries initiated a pilot project that enabled library patrons to direct request items held in the University of California Special Collection Units. The pilot ended the need for patrons to initiate most requests for unique items in person through the Special Collections department and allowed patrons to self-determine the need for a unique item when searching the shared UC-wide catalog, Melvyl®. The following article discusses the process used to handle the requests, includes perspectives from the two units overseeing the requests, evaluates the overall success of the pilot and offers considerations for implementing a similar service elsewhere.  相似文献

This article will provide a brief overview of the successes of the Digital Library of the Caribbean, an open access, multi-institutional, multilingual, inclusive, international digital library. It will discuss factors that support the sustainability of robust technical infrastructures, collaborative partnerships, shared governance, and shared interests in advancing Caribbean scholarly research. Abstract

This article presents the results of a study performed on the interlibrary loan patron request records at the library of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, an urban commuter college with a specialized curriculum. The findings suggest that the increasing availability of electronic full-text resources has had a significant impact on the volume of faculty and graduate student interlibrary loan borrowing of nonreturnable, photocopied materials. This appears to be the case across disciplines and regardless of the currency of the needed materials. The downward trend in demand for these materials may be outpacing actual full-text availability. This may suggest that content is being replaced with convenience. This could have implications for reference librarians and their role in the research process. Declining demand may also provide interlibrary loan librarians and their staff opportunities to alter their services and develop new skills.  相似文献

Fee-based services deliver information to a library's non-primary clientele by providing products such as document delivery and research services, usually on a cost-recovery basis. A client satisfaction survey is one method of evaluating a fee-based information service's effectiveness in meeting its clients' needs and of learning new ways to serve customers better. To gain the most benefit and insight from the survey's results, the survey must be carefully planned and implemented. Compiling, Interpreting, and reporting the results are equally important. The term Electronic Library Information System is used to describe the Wallace Library Computer Access System at the Rochester Institute of Technology, a copmuter system that not only allows patrons to search the library's catalog but also remote online databases, the Internet, and a Logicraft CD-ROM server. The sources of 892 Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request citations processed between January 1 and March 31, 1992 were studied to determine how patrons used this increased acces to electronic resources. Information on source of request, patront type, material type, and fill rate was collected. Particular attention is paid to how ILL patrons are using the Internet. The impact of this technology on ILL, and areas for further research are discussed.  相似文献

Academic libraries serve great numbers of distance learners and must address the unique challenges faced by these students. Technology can bridge the gap in terms of access and use of library resources. Academic librarians working with distance students must examine their student population, determine the needs of their users, and be prepared to adapt technology available to meet those needs. Many academic libraries have adapted Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) ILLiad to allow better support of distance learners. Library models that have used OCLC ILLiad or similar software for distance services are discussed and can be used as a model for change in library distance services programs.  相似文献

十几年来,数字图书馆的研究和发展,形成了数字图书馆三种主流模式,即特种馆藏型模式、服务主导型模式和商用文献型模式。服务主导型数字图书馆的体系结构是以三种主要数字化资源为基础,由统一信息访问平台、网上参考咨询(VRD)平台为两翼组成。统一信息访问平台主要解决异构平台的信息资源检索,向用户提供方便检索的统一界面,提供不同数字图书馆的互操作;网上参考咨询平台主要解决用户在访问数字图书馆时的疑问。这两个平台对一个实用的数字图书馆是不可缺少的,在系统结构上有些是相互渗透的。  相似文献
